My grandfather took me to this game. He was a big Pirate's fan and had attended every playoff game and World Series in Pittsburgh since 1925. I was 8 years old and remember taking the bus from McKeesport to Three Rivers for the game. We sat in the 200 level right at first base. Willie Stargell was my man! John Candaleria pitched a great game and I remember it was close, but I knew in my heart of hearts that the Pirates were good, but not as good as the Reds that year. It was a thrilling experience and a cherished memory.
As a kid growing up in Cincinnati I thought Marty Brenneman and Joe Nuxhall would broadcast Reds games forever, I took them for granite and miss listening to the both of them. RIP Joe Nuxhall and thank you and Marty for all the years you did Reds games together.
Outstanding! 07 October is my Birthday - Pete Rose's clutch HR, and the Big Red Machine's sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates in route to an historic World Series was a superb gift for my 12th year!
They didn’t steal bases like the Reds did. Because of this, they were prone to grounding into double plays. Plus, Parker went 0 for 10 and Stargell was only 2 for 11 if I remember correctly.

Childhood memories! Miss Marty and Joe
Pittsburgh’s John Candelaria struck out 14 Cincinnati Reds in that game.
Nothing like the Big Red Machine to help during these nutty times
How did the pirate s loose with this line up.. WOW...they had a great eight themselves

Pirates were Reds whipping boys every play off during Big Red Machine era except for 1979. Payback for Steelers ownership of Bengals
