    I got a 1982 about 10 years ago for 2500. It’s a k20 single cab short bed 6.2, lifted, with good paint, new th 400 trans, banks turbo and injectors, Upgraded fuel filters both are spin on. It was my first car and im never selling it

      I had an 82 as well but it had a 700R4. That must have been an option over the TH400. It was a bit of a dog in OD and really struggled just to keep it's speed up if it was on any kind of hill.

      Not being a jerk but if it's a single cab with a short bed is a k10, they never made a K20 single cab short bed

    I've ridden one of these 6.2 diesel hm trucks when I was very young.they did have a good bit of torque whenever the engine was healthy. Sometimes the truck would not start.

    Love that truck. So much personality. My dream truck would be an old crew cab Power Wagon with a 12v.

    • @compressorhead02
      @compressorhead02  9 месяцев назад +2

      That would be awesome the only downside is the getrag transmission I've heard they are not super reliable, I plan on building a crew cab squarebody with a Cummins and nv4500 in the future and if I do I'll be sure to post videos.

    Plowed parking lots for years with my uncle's 84 3/4 ton Silverado. Boy, did I ever love that truck. I put a new engine in it at about 256,000 miles. I bought it from him for 500 dollars about 12 years ago. I drove it for a few years but she is pretty well rusted out. My son is going to swap the motor into his 85 chevy 3/4 ton. Then I will part out the rest of the 84. I also have a 85 3/4 ton chevy, but it is a gasser. I also had a 82 Blazer with the 6.2 diesel. Man that was such a nice truck with a 4 inch lift and 33s. Sold it to my brother and he lost it in his divorce 💔. My other uncle had a 83 with a 6.2 . It was a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive. Both of these uncle's ran a business together. One of them had a Buick LeSabre with the 5.7 diesel, and the other had a Oldsmobile Delta 88 and also a last year built Buick LeSabre diesel. I did a lot of work for them over the years on these vehicles it also started my ❤️ of diesel when most people 😳 hated them!

      I'm so glad to see people in the same boat it's like you need to understand the reason the engine was invented it wasn't meant to be some crazy powerhouse it was meant to be a reliable fuel efficient alternative to the gas engines at the time. What makes it more impressive is this economy engine for pickups were used in the Humvees so when people tell me they are junk I always ask "if they are such a trash motor why did the us military use them for decades" my truck was my daily for almost 2 years and never left me stranded.

    Hey man, youtube recommended this to me in the Netherlands! Would love to drive a truck like that one day. In the Netherlands a big engine is anything above 2.5 liter. For myself i drive a "fast" car, with a 1.5 ecoboost 182hp.

    Just bought a k5 blazer yesterday with the 6.2. I'm going to pull the sm465 out of a k10 and swap it into the k5. Hope to order the banks turbo kit this year

    • @compressorhead02
      @compressorhead02  Год назад +3

      They don't make the banks turbo kit no more your gonna probably want to find a solid old kit or put a 6.5 intake/exhaust and turbo on they will bolt on as long as your truck doesn't have ac

    I had a 1982 GMC Sierra with the 6.2 diesel. My 1990 GMC with 350 gas & 700-R4 trans with overdrive gets 16 mpg if I'm lucky. The 6.2 diesel in the 1982 had a Turbo 400 trans put in it back in the '80s, apparently a lotcof the 1st year 700-R4 (s) failed, and it was not uncommon to put a turbo 400 put in its place back then. No overdrive. 3.42 gears. It still got 17 mpg. Even if i dtove a lot in town, or idled it a long time while I was in the house, diesel mileage didn't suffer, that's one huge difference I noticed when I bought a gasser after i sold the diesel. Think i saw Sam Memmolo on tv years ago say instead of 14.7 to 1 on a gas, on a diesel, specifically at idle, some are near 100 to 1 air to fuel ratio. I said to my father, no wonder big rigs can run alll night

  • @SOU6900

    I wouldn't mind having one of these with a 6.2 na. Wouldn't really mind having a Ford either with a 6.9L or 7.3L IDI but prefer the square body because of the interior design.

      It is enumclaw and thank you also it's an sm465 I can bite the bullet on a nv4500 they are really pricey, especially because I want to build a Cummins crew cab square body so I'll just have an nv4500 then. It gets by fine the way it is for just cruising to work and doing truck things lol

    did that truck come with the Detroit from factory?

    • @compressorhead02
      @compressorhead02  Год назад +5

      Yes sir the 6.2 diesel was designed by both Detroit and gm it's different than the gas conversion to diesel

    • @Wingnut353
      @Wingnut353 Год назад +2

      @@compressorhead02 Yeah the olds diesel. It isn't an exact copy of a gas engine but it does use the same tooling as GM's V8s... which mean the head bolts were too weak. The olds V6s were redesigned somewhat and were a bit more relaible. The Detroit diesel V8 was basically the result of the fallout from a failed diesel deisgn and GM asked Detroit to design an engine for them, that said the V8 Detroit DOES have problems... and most of them were intriduced by GM cutting costs, for instance Detroit specced the engine to have a forged crank, and GM used a cast one.... its one of the weakest links in the engine along with the head bolts either can become a problem with putting a turbo on it.

      Does it make you kids feel better referring to it as Detroit? You won’t find a Detroit logo on these engines but you will find manufactured by GM

    • @compressorhead02
      @compressorhead02  9 месяцев назад +3

      Detroit diesel teamed up with GM to design the engine there's service manuals that have the Detroit logo on them for the 6.2 also Detroit diesel was a company that branched from GM.
