I've become addicted to Kevin's channel, after searching for some live performances! The amount of stamina required to play an entire symphony on two hands must be incredible. I'm a huge fan - the playing is beautiful, and for me, just as satisfying to hear as the orchestral versions. I might be biased given my affection for the piano, but I find the clarity of the inner voices is better than with the full orchestra playing. :-) Interestingly, I also really like the live performance, where the performance is a direct reflection of the pianist's interpretation in the moment (really authentic!), and the occasional wrong note reminds me of how difficult and technically demanding this work is. For a studio recording, I like Katsaris' cycle, which is also available on RUclips.
Beethoven: great composer 3rd Symphony: superb composition Lizt’s transcription: great job Kevin Suherman: great performance Steinway piano: great sound Overall: Wonderful hearing. I enjoyed every piece of it.
Beethoven is hearing this :) Monumental feat. The symphony that shook heaven and earth. ( "According to his [Beethoven's] own statement, it is the greatest work he has written to date. Beethoven played it [the third Symphony] for me the other day and I think heaven and earth must tremble at its performance." ) -Ferdinand Ries
Thank you for making this publicly available. It is such a privilege to hear such a beautiful rendition, and makes this piece so much more accessible to students!
Well after that you can take a little break in the 2nd movement, at least physically anyway, it is still mentally draining. And then you see the nightmare of the last 2 movements haha..
So first movement is the hardest? I want to play this but it looks very challenging guess I will stick to Transcendental Etudes for now even Chasse Neige is giving me headaches I can't imagine what this piece would do.
C’est excellent, mais je prends cette liberté, la version de Cyprien Katsaris qui a enregistré toutes les symphonies transcrites par Liszt reste de très loin la meilleure..
Listened to this again. I recall a Polish woman, in some documentary, saying that only Polish people can understand Chopin. However, this guy is clearly of Asian descent, but His understanding of Beethoven is outstanding. Will put many a German conductor to shame for their pedestrian performance. I know this symphony very well, and enjoyed every note.
Just outrageous racist comments. As if its a surprise to be Asian and play Beethoven well. There are Asian and German musicians that are excellent and those that are pedestrian. Just like no country has a shortage of racists at heart. And btw, how do you know that this pianist is not several generations, e.g. British? By the shape of his eyes? And called "Kevin"?
@@malcolmabram2957it’s the very definition of racism. Just be aware of it if it was not intended. Regarding Poland, that woman was referring to the years of suffering the Polish people have been through and that transpire through Chopin’s compositions. At the very core, not everyone can readily identify with it. Although there is a plane of universalism to which you could identify, you won’t be able to pierce all of it if you are not of Polish descent.

Well played. But the repeat in the first movement mustn't be ommited. I know many conductors used to do it in the 60's and 70's but it just shows their complete lack of structural understanding. If you ommit the repeat the movement's architecture shifts completely towards the development section. When played with repeat the exposition, development and recapitulation and coda are more or less of equal lenght. That's what Beethoven planned for and it must not be ignored.
The 'tour de force' is physically demanding enough...! Maybe he will include the repitition when he gathered more experience in performing the work. Also possible that he was afraid that it might be less interesting than in the orchestral version for the audience.
Wunnderbar gespielt.

If most people heard this angelic genius's music, there would be very little of today's popular music (noise).
Beethoven: great composer
3rd Symphony: superb composition
Lizt’s transcription: great job
Kevin Suherman: great performance
Steinway piano: great sound
Overall: Wonderful hearing. I enjoyed every piece of it.
this pianist understands beethoven very well
Super high fidelity audio and an excellent performance!!! Bravo!!! Beethoven would be proud
You have clearly felt this piece and experienced it very deeply to be able to express it so well on the piano
That finale gave me the chills, which would not have happened with the orchestral verion...

One of the most amazing upload in the history of classical piano music ...
Awesome! You put lots of passion in your playing, I loved it! Bravo!!!

Quite well played. Not easy trying to sound like an orchestra. Lots of clarity in part writing.
I didnt even know this was possible all on piano!! Awesome!
Gorgeous
Bravo! 👏
Bravo!!!!!! You are great!!!!!
Great performance!!!
Beautiful rendering of the 2nd movement and the fugue!
Kevin, you are are playing excellently... better than excellent... better than me...
Great!
Did not know this great symphony had been transposed for piano. But if this performance was reorchestrated it will be a superb performance.
Liszt transposed the whole 9 symphonies for solo piano :)
Awesome
absolutely epic
great musicality nothing bombastic in your playing
Bravo! I am learning the first movement, Liszt indeed put as many things as possible into his transcription, which makes it extremely hard to play!
the first movment is hard...

Keren banget, mas. Eroica dinamikanya luar biasa.
I hope (yet doubt) the audience realised what they just witnessed. What a monstrous feat, incredible

why are you here suddenly?
Bravo!!!!

Give way Martha. There is a new pianist in town.

My comment is not the slightest bit racist. It might help if you learn to read English.
EVERYONE understands Beethoven

Please do not conflate music with ANYTHING but music itself.
Liszt's transcription is a lot better than the original symphonic form IMO.
