Seeing Epica in 2010 live at the Hollywood House Of Blues was just EPIC!!! It was amazing. I still remember that performance. The whole band is fantastic. Simone as beautiful and angelic as ever :)

What a brilliant recovery at 4.04! If she hadn't glanced back at Coen we (non-Dutch) would never have noticed. Sign of a true Pro that and after it she didnt allow it to throw her but finished beautifully (although the start was dodgy - owing to Coen's inability to locate those white and black bits again !!). But overall - I prefer the PinkPop electric version which was phenomenal. This has to be the TOUGHEST SONG for Simone to perform live by a long chalk, and its even tougher acoustically.

Mark Jansen writes most of the band's music, and actually founded the band. If there is a single member of the band that is its "soul", it's him.

amo a banda Epica, adoro as composiçoes e o jeito como o Mark orquestra o som da banda, essa musica: tides of time é linda letra e melodia, mas convenhamos que essa versão ficou extremamente diferente a simone desafina e no finalsinho erra feio e tem que volta é como muitos dizem a simone morre no palco ao ivo ela manda mal pacas.

She looks like she's struggling a bit too. I've read a few comments on youtube saying that her voice isn't what it used to be... I hope it's just a brief phrase. I love Epica and Simone, I really hope their music can reach further across the globe. I live in Australia and a HUGE fan of Epica but it sucks that they do not have enough fans here to perform. I wanna move to Europe. >

Simone is a very talented singer
She again sings it in her unique way, feeling the song and enjoying the meaning. But Simone, I think you should focus on the clarity of the tones as first - this is the most important thing, because some tones were slightly lower than supposed to be and I could hear it and it just distracts the enjoyment of the listener. But otherwise, Simone rocks!!! I love her!
Kateřina Černoušková you are critiquing Simone?? lol this is old now. so thats kinda silly. this is clearly not an easy song to sing and it might not be her best work but she still an incredible vocalist. she has also grown in the past several years as an artist. I saw them last year and she's incredible live. In fact better than ever. check out their new stuff if u havent!

I adore Simone for this. Her "goofyness", cute mistakes and her singing on metal stage make so amazing contrast, I have no words.
There are a couple of performances at PinkPop which reveal she is a bit off colour but this is not one of them. If this is how she sings when she's feeling a bit dodgy - doesn't leave much hope for other vocalists does it?
It's Coen that fluffs a few notes particulraly in that intro (and he knows it!)!

For some one who was not well at the time -I think she did bloody fantastic - and so exposed here without full band backing. To deliver like this when clearly under the weather is sign of a true pro. As for the bloody metzo/soprano debate, what does it matter -she spans a range that overlaps both registers, So what - it's just a bloody label. Of course the classical brigade get all het up about it because in that genre it's all about over-analysis, bloody labels and ciriticising the competition!
Oh come now. Only the first note of the verses is significantly off. It's not an easy jump to do, and when your voice is off due to ilness it's virtually impossible to get it right. I think it's awesome she still manages to get those high notes out.
I think she was a little nervous. But search for a video where she sings the song "Memory", it is one of her best performances. I guess I can understand a little why she gets so nervous during concerts... she is a beautiful girl, so everyone expects her to be perfect (perfect looks, perfect voice, perfect behavior etc). This kind of pressure can be very annoying.

@ThePoetsWolf09 Yes hahaha! I have their entire discography on my iPod (all purchased LEGALLY). And it was actually their remix of the 'Spider Man' main theme that I heard of them (off The Classical Conspiracy). :) All you can do after you discover them is wonder WHY you hadn't sooner! At least thats how it was for me! (^_^)

I'm glad that we have a panel of classically trained Sopranos, Altos, Mezzos, Baritones, Tenors and Basses to criticize Simone's performance because they DO know that the notes she reaches on this song are on the highest notes of her Mezzo register, which means that they are a bitch to sing if she's not on her 100%. It's beautiful, really, that we have also musical experts that know that your only interest must be your fucking job. Because of course, who doesn't think of their job all the time?

This is true :( I miss old Epica, I think the CTO era was the best, they seemed so good and genuine... now even their music started to suck, at least for me :( That's right about Simone, she's become a fashionist and doesn't give a fuck about metal and her music anymore, or at least she looks like this... she's still beautiful but not as she was in 2005, when she used to wear dark and goth-like outfit... it's sad how almost every good and famous band sooner or later loses its way...
So wonderful... she maked a mistake at the end :P but she still been a professional singer!
