My absolute favourite Eddie Hall video was a workout vlog on his channel. He started with squats, realized he wasn't at his strongest that day and stuck with a "light" working set of 600lbs or whatever, then he told us the importance of listening to your body and knowing when not to push yourself beyond your limits. Not 5 minutes later, he leg pressed 1000kgs, shit himself, and passed out.

Thor or Brian Shawn could not match Eddie in deadlift competition in same race, that being said, putting one kilo extra to 500kg deadlift is pretty gay when eddie broke his own record with almost 40kg like from 462kg to 500kg.
I’m from Stoke and I remember seeing a young Eddie Hall do a strength challenge at half time during a football match with a better-known (at the time) strongman. We were all cheering for the local lad and he goes and crushes the challenge with ease. A few years later, he’s the strongest in the world. Also, the Stoke (Potteries) accent is worlds apart from the cockney-esque. We’re much more likely to call you Duck than Guvna!
I used to train at the same gym as Eddie when he was 19 (Total Fitness, trent vale). He asked me for the occasional spot. I used to think, I hope he's got this cuz I can't see me lifting this off his chest.
Huge miss not doing the 345kg full depth squats for a set of 7 with a pause on the last rep. Or the 420kg deadlift pyramid. Two of the most insane feats of raw strength ever recorded.
I saw a video of the whole prep of the lift with buildup and cinematography. Brings a tear to my eye every time. Such incredible power to smash the record by so much
Such a legendary event. A dude who put it all on the line to do something once thought impossible. Even by the time he did it, he was thought way too short to be able to bulk up enough to be able to move that weight. He ballooned over 400 lbs to be able to be the same weight as substantially taller people
I think another big part of how crazy Eddie's lift was is how much he jumped the record by. Usually it's just one or two pounds, but he beat the prior record by like fifty pounds? Honestly, I feel like that's just as big a deal as the lift itself.

Thank you for the upload baby bro! Regarding the info you communicated at around: 08:40 concerning consuming isomolar solutions. You missed some essential science details: An isomolar solution has the same osmolarity (number of osmoles of solute per liter of solution) as human body fluids, typically around 285-295 mOsm/L. This means that a solution with 8% nutrient solutes in 1000 mL of water would need to have an osmolarity close to this range to be considered isomolar for human physiology. The human gut absorbs nutrients through the intestinal lining, which relies on osmotic gradients to move substances. If a solution is isomolar, it means it won't cause water to move into or out of the cells lining the gut, which helps maintain proper hydration and nutrient absorption. The osmolarity of milk is approximately 300 mOsm/kg. This value can vary slightly depending on the specific composition of the milk, including the presence of nutrients like lactose, fats, and proteins. Milks osmolarity is quite close to that of human body fluids, making it effective for rehydration. Additionally, milk provides a rich source of electrolytes, such as sodium and potassium, which are essential for maintaining fluid balance in the body. Plus, it contains proteins and carbohydrates that can aid in recovery and provide sustained energy. Water, while essential and effective for hydration, doesn't contain these extra nutrients. That's why athletes and people who need to rehydrate after intense activity often turn to beverages like milk & those that do not should!!! Peace & Love!!! P.S. good to see you come around to the advantages of Burpees & inline with what I mentioned in the comments the last time you "critiqued" them :::))
You should review the videos of Prime Fat Eddie, fat Eddie is my favorite Eddie. His training weights were absolutely insane, and everything controlled to the max. He might be one of the strongest humans ever.
YES FINALLY! I've been waiting for you to review Eddie and I agree with Eddie they weren't official plates and it was in his garage that his dad setup, not on an official stage in front of the world! By the way you're awesome Dr. Mike, thanks for doing what you do.
11:35 brit here, I’m pretty sure we use ‘me’ instead of ‘my’ because it rolls of the tongue easier and honestly we’re just lazy and want to say things as quick as possible as saying ‘me’ is quicker than saying ‘my’. Some other examples are instead of ‘alright’ we say ‘ight’ and to punctuate our sentences we say ‘innit’
i would say ight is not really a british thing as a total but more of a new generation thing bc alot of younf americans say ight also. but i agree with saying me instead of my tho bc i do it its more of a northern dialect but yeah
UK accents are much more prone to cut words or shorten words then american accents american accents are more prone to use exageration to emphasis while Uk accents are more prone to use ommission to emphasis an extreme example would be "i went down to the shops" a UK accent might end up sounding like "a-wen t shop" while an american accent might end up sounding like "i WENT down to the SHOPS" because the UK accents basically cut everything that isnt "necesary" its why you also get "me nan" not "my nan" cos its not "me" nan its "m' nan" all the extra sounds are cut out, and only the important ones that you need for context are left unfortunatly, its also why stronger UK accents are harder to understand for non natives, cos they cut out all of the extra sounds that a non native might need to hear to know what was said
Nice! Love seeing you analyzing people with other sets of values than body builders... no offense! Lol To my understanding, body building was essentially a way to get visibility in the training space. You could be one of the greatest contributors to changing mentalities of a demographic of people who were damaging their health without putting much thought into it and into the values behind their reasons. Loved the amount of science in this video!

Scott missed out his best lift's 😢 Like when he made 217kg Axel Press look like a pice off piss. His plane pull at WSM 2017 was insane aswell. Prime Eddie Hall was just different gravy.
Mike usually has sick playlists for his in-gym videos. There's obviously some thought put into this. Mike--can you do a video on the role music plays in your training and recommend some of your favorite tracks for a workout playlist?
From what I understand, the main crux of the argument against Thor's deadlift was that it was at his own home gym on his own timeline under "ideal" circumstances, whereas Eddie did it in an official competition against other competitors. Both are incredible no matter what, but there's a very solid argument against Thor's being an "official" record. FWIW Brian Shaw thinks Thor's lift should be an "unofficial" record but Eddie's should still be the "official" record
Except a lot of those arguments are either untrue or deliberately misleading, because Eddie has worked overtime to propagate misinformation and delegitimise Thor's 501 ever since it happened: 'Thor did the lift in his gym' ... he did. As part of a sanctioned event with set rules and timings he had to follow. In front of the Head Referee from World's Strongest Man, and a wall of sponsors. While a television camera-crew broadcast the whole event live on ESPN. 'Thor's dad weighed the plates' ... Thor's dad put the plates on a scale, in front of the Head Referee from World's Strongest Man. The scale weighed the plates. 'It wasn't in competition' ... competition lifts follow set rules and get judged by a referee, which this did. It was performed to competition standards, and there's documentary evidence that Thor did all the same weight-jumps under the same time-restrictions as Eddie did. 'It was only one kilo more' ... world records are broken by very small margins all the time, whether it's one kilo heavier or one second faster or one inch further. Eddie himself broke the axle-press world-record by a single kilogram, so he knows from personal experience that this is a silly argument. ... it's worth bearing in mind that Eddie's basically built an entire career off the back of the 500kg deadlift, his reputation depends on him saying Thor's lift "doesn't count".
@@GODOFHELLFIRE3 If you applied all these rules to track and did it in a private event it would not be a world record, neither if it was a swimming pool. Hope this helps!
@boxingvanilla5960 It... wasn't a private event though... so how would that help literally anything..? Broadcasted live, completely planned, everything set in stone as to who, what, where, when, how, all of it. Swimming and Track tend not to have records broken outside of competitions because they don't get paid for that. An athlete will do their best during competition and break the records during competition so that they can get paid and also get their bonuses for breaking the records. If you break the record in practice and submit that for your world record, you're not getting any extra money for it and even costing yourself money if you can't beat that again in the actual competition. Most also don't have all the recordings for outside of competitions. This guy, however, had officials from competitions, had his scales tested by referees, had his weights measured on those scales, and followed the rules of the competition lifts to qualify for the record break. It was no different from being in a competition other than the fact that it's only you competing. It wasn't at that competition specifically, but it used that competitions rules and referees much like how an Olympic Trial isn't the Olympics, but Florence holds the Olympic record for her 100m run during a trial run and not her Olympic run that would've also been a world record and Olympic record break if the previous did not count.
@@GODOFHELLFIRE3 I'd say the opposite actually. Thor's entire reputation rests on that lift far more heavily. Without breaking it he has no world records and was only able to win WSM after Eddie retired, so it would be a career in the shadow of Eddie. And while i think Thor had the strength to make that lift in competition setting, i don't think it should stand as home gym lifts aren't counted as records in any other setting.
Hey Dr Mike, Great video. UK Northerners often use "me' instead of 'my', particulary Scousers! Eddie is from Stoke, middle England, on the cusp of the 'me' 'my' divide 🙂
Dr Mike - "Me shoulder" or "Me Nan" is something you would hear in Northern England (where folks are proper). They say "my" in the South where folks are not as cultured. 😁
bruv ur english, you should be the prime example of spelling and making conversation in dat launguage, not the worst one after the scottish 😀 It dont matter wich part of england u point at
The 'feeling like you're really hydrating' is so real for taking on electrolytes during/after endurance exercise. I'm a runner, and I actively crave the salts in my electrolyte drink during and after my run. I can down 1L of my electrolyte solution in an instant when I've been sweating, but when I've not been sweating I struggle to drink a sip of it. It tastes salty when I'm good for electrolytes, and it doesn't taste salty at all when I'm depleted of electrolytes. My body is really good at telling me when I do/don't need electrolytes.
8:43 for 1000 ml of water 8% solution would be like 87gm. For 80g to be 8% the total size of the shake would need to be 1000 ml. So you would have 920 ml of water.
you'd be right if the 8% were "volume by volume" so to speak, but when people describe aqueous solutions as "x%" without any units they almost always mean weight by volume. the nomenclature for w/v is "x grams of solute dissolved in 100 ml of water is an x% solution". not very scientific imho but widely used
eddie hall is also descended from viking like thor- hes from the north of england. most of the rest of his dna will be from the Angles, who came from the same place as the vikings, but left a few hundred years before.
hahaha plot twist, every elite strongman is secretly a Viking descendant. It's no coincidence that Vikings discovered America before Columbus. On Their way back to Scandinavia, they were like, Oh shit we forgot Björn he was still looting that church, and whoops we got Brian Shaw a few generations later.
@@nocbvideos6458 brian shaw is likely largely english in origin (because all white american are european in origin), so he is probably descended from vikings as well one of the main strength genes comes from the indo-europeans, a group from thousands of years ago orignating in russia and kazakhstan. they are the ancestors of modern euroeans, indians and central asians. the indo europeans were incredinly muscular, and tall compared to the other europeans and asians at the time. the amount of indo european dna varies between countries and people. the regions with the most are scandinavia, the british isles, the baltic states, and the caucasus s, and eastern europe. this regions are all known for strength. every elite strongman (excluding those of african and polynesian decent) are strong fue to high levels of indo european dna, some of which was inherited through the vikings, who were descendants of the indo-europeans
Hahaha loving your 'English'. So like across your states we have very distinct accents like very 15 miles, it's that crazy. I drive to work and they speak differently to where I live. I say 'my' but yeah Eddie says 'me' and others say 'ma' in that context. I can't even understand some of the accents. If impersonating a Londoner people either go very posh or very common guv' innit. Anyway, great vid and I'm loving the impressions mate.
Eddie's 500 and Lasha's 225 snatch stand pretty much equal in that regards, in so far as they're so absurd that it's likely impossible their magnitude will ever be surpassed.
@thomasbaughman9941 lasha and his 225 isn't even in the same league. Especially as a moment, because lasha for all those major events was just going for the goal of chipping the world record. Eddie absolutely smashed it. That 225 lift was beating the record of 220. If you count that the same as Eddie, that would put every all time record on the same level.
@@thomasbaughman9941 So rather then using logic, you just say some dumb shit trying to insult? Do you need me to slowly explain how breaking a record by 5 kilos is not in the same league as breaking a record by 35kg? You understand that's 7 fucking times more. You apparently are so biased towards a guy who doesn't know you exist, you lose all ability to have logical conversation. Grow up kid.
I think it's worth noticing that Eddie's 500kg lift was at the end of a heavy competition, while the other lift was specifically trained and planned for and done under ideal conditions.

Eddie is from Northern England, like myself (West Yorkshire). No idea why we say "me" or "mi" instead of "my"; probably because it's easier and quicker to say. Typical local dialect and culture shit lol. I think you'd hear it less in Southern English accents though.
Eddie hall is an absolute legend im honoured to know him personally him being a good friend of my uncle had change to work out with him few time 2010 he is such a nice dude and very clever guy you wouldn’t believe it lol great video :)
Regarding the accent. Eddie Hall is from Stoke which is in the north of England. So less likely to sound like Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins. The key to the Stoke accent is the weird pronunciation of the o sound. Check out how he says Rogue. Anyway great video
It's not correct to say he was the first to move that amount of weight from the ground and all the way up. Yes, it's the first time it's done in what we call a regular deadlift, but the 18" deadlift broke this barrier in 1983. over 40 years ago. And that is also moving weights from the ground and all the way up. If anyone wants to become technical about this, the bar on regular deadlift is also above the ground. It's the wording that is wrong, as it might give people the impression that this was the first time anyone ever lifted this amount of weight, which is false.
Also, Žydrūnas "Big Z" Savickas broke the 500kg mark in the Hummer Tire Deadlift in 2012. And the weight wasn't that unheard of in strength sports. Outside the deadlift Strongmen were carrying around 700kg Yokes in the same year.

Eddie being from Stoke would be so offended by your impression of him having a London accent! 😂
Stoke accent ain't THAT different from most london accents
It really is lol @@Lifeisgood-bv2tg

Thank you for the upload baby bro! Regarding the info you communicated at around: 08:40 concerning consuming isomolar solutions. You missed some essential science details:
An isomolar solution has the same osmolarity (number of osmoles of solute per liter of solution) as human body fluids, typically around 285-295 mOsm/L.
Him and Brian Shaw are inhuman 😂

Come on now... You all just want to sound like pirates. Innit. ;)
I'm also a brit, I say "mi" it's just laziness
@@torchmark66 and you americans want to butcher the language innit
UK accents are much more prone to cut words or shorten words then american accents
american accents are more prone to use exageration to emphasis while Uk accents are more prone to use ommission to emphasis
an extreme example would be
"i went down to the shops"
a UK accent might end up sounding like
"a-wen t shop"
while an american accent might end up sounding like
"i WENT down to the SHOPS"
because the UK accents basically cut everything that isnt "necesary"
its why you also get "me nan" not "my nan" cos its not "me" nan its "m' nan"
all the extra sounds are cut out, and only the important ones that you need for context are left
unfortunatly, its also why stronger UK accents are harder to understand for non natives, cos they cut out all of the extra sounds that a non native might need to hear to know what was said

Except a lot of those arguments are either untrue or deliberately misleading, because Eddie has worked overtime to propagate misinformation and delegitimise Thor's 501 ever since it happened:
'Thor did the lift in his gym' ...
@@GODOFHELLFIRE3 Eddie hasn't made his whole career off that lift. Don't type bollocks. His reputation doesn't depend on that what so ever,.
You might already know this Mike but i think that red bar is an extra long whippy bar Eddie Hall trains on specifically to make it harder.
Thankyou for this video. Eddie hall is one of my favorite people in general. Just seems like an awesome guy. And Brian Shaw.
Dr Mike - "Me shoulder" or "Me Nan" is something you would hear in Northern England (where folks are proper). They say "my" in the South where folks are not as cultured. 😁

Former professor? They must have found out about the cadaver lab.
Who's here afer the Coach Greg video 😂😂
surely do a video on armwrestlers like checking out their training but also some of the insane lifts they can do
8:43 for 1000 ml of water 8% solution would be like 87gm. For 80g to be 8% the total size of the shake would need to be 1000 ml. So you would have 920 ml of water.
you'd be right if the 8% were "volume by volume" so to speak, but when people describe aqueous solutions as "x%" without any units they almost always mean weight by volume. the nomenclature for w/v is "x grams of solute dissolved in 100 ml of water is an x% solution". not very scientific imho but widely used
Saw the promotion on IG! Congratulations on your black belt!
I’m at purple currently, I’d love to struggle snuggle with you 😉
eddie hall is also descended from viking like thor- hes from the north of england. most of the rest of his dna will be from the Angles, who came from the same place as the vikings, but left a few hundred years before.
hahaha plot twist, every elite strongman is secretly a Viking descendant. It's no coincidence that Vikings discovered America before Columbus. On Their way back to Scandinavia, they were like, Oh shit we forgot Björn he was still looting that church, and whoops we got Brian Shaw a few generations later.
@@nocbvideos6458 brian shaw is likely largely english in origin (because all white american are european in origin), so he is probably descended from vikings as well
one of the main strength genes comes from the indo-europeans, a group from thousands of years ago orignating in russia and kazakhstan. they are the ancestors of modern euroeans, indians and central asians. the indo europeans were incredinly muscular, and tall compared to the other europeans and asians at the time.
the amount of indo european dna varies between countries and people. the regions with the most are scandinavia, the british isles, the baltic states, and the caucasus s, and eastern europe. this regions are all known for strength.
every elite strongman (excluding those of african and polynesian decent) are strong fue to high levels of indo european dna, some of which was inherited through the vikings, who were descendants of the indo-europeans
Eddie broke that record by 35 kilos that day. The record he broke, was his.
Literally the greatest lift in strength sports history.
@@brandonhoover2120 😂 can you even deadlift 225

I do believe at his peak Eddie was the strongest person to ever live. Static lifts. Unbelievable.
