I think God having infinite wisdom, must also mean He has infinite patience to deal with our ignorance and stubbornness. I envision we're like a 5 year old having a temper tantrum because our parents won't let us eat desert before dinner lol - WW

I like the story of Jonah cause I feel like theres a lot of people who say "oh not my will Lord but yours" but they aren't really understanding the severity of that. Cause if the Lord wills you to go to Nineveh, oh you're gonna go to Nineveh one way or another. And I think people don't take that into consideration when they pray and don't understand that if it's the Lord's will, even if you don't like it, the Lord gonna have you do it.

Jonah in the boat is such a picture of the effect of rebellion on our souls. In the beginning Jonah runs from God because he understands his character that will forgive even the murdering, raping, slavers that were the ninevites but by the time the storm comes Jonah has become so blind to God that he chooses to die, likely not with any great introspection, because subconsciously he is feeling that God cannot forgive him and the storm is his final judgment. No doubt he felt there was some kernel of nobility in him committing suicide to save the others who had been caught up in the effects of his rebellion and I think that is very true to life. Speaking as someone who's struggled with depression, the spirit of suicide tells you that the world would be better off without you and that there is no hope for redemption and better days.
Rebellion requires you to deny the goodness and mercy of God and that denial leads to all kinds of evil. Thank God that there is truly no one so far that his spirit cannot reach them.
Edit: I'm not disagreeing with your interpretation of his motives and decision but I'm just saying that there was likely alot going on at various levels of his soul, anger against God, despair, stubborn rebellion, guilt toward those effected by his sin, seemingly righteous anger toward the ninevites, it truly is a story of incredible spiritual and natural depth which the world would call psychological.
What I mean is that you're right that he likely did consciously choose death over repentence because he simply didn't want to repent but I do think there were elements more common to suicide than self righteous intransigence because that root of rebellion and denying God's character had already begun to grow in his heart.

i was reading Charles Stanely and what he got from it was that God could not use him after the people repented because his heart wasn't obedient

Yes, Jonah and the ninevites are a great example of why we must have an eternal perspective. How can we bless those who curse us if we do not know that our reward is great in heaven? Yes, we do good out of love but God has also called us to peace in knowing that if we do good and receive evil in return our reward is truly great in heaven.
It really shows the futility of evil. Men do evil and receive evil in return all to what end? All is vanity. How much better to entrust yourself to the God who is a debtor to no man and richly rewards those who love him? It is not a matter of what we will receive but our moneybags are already made in heaven and God is merely guarding the deposits made therein, adding to them day by day, moment by moment, as we put our trust in him.

Something I found interesting was in 4:2, Jonah quotes Exodus 34:6 (one of the most encouraging passages) when explaining his anger to God lol.
It’s not only that Jonah didn’t think Nineveh deserved God’s mercy, but more importantly, he knew God in His sovereignty could and would extend His mercy to whom He pleases if they repent. Because in Exodus 33:19, God said to Moses, “I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy to whom I will show mercy.”
Jonah was angered because of how merciful God is, yet it’s through that same mercy God gave him a second chance to fulfill his calling. If we’re honest, a lot of us are selective in God’s grace and mercy, to others and ourselves.

Yes this is so good! I agree. We all have been forgiven and continue to needs Gods mercy and grace. When I taught on forgiveness at my church I touched on the fact that we don’t get to decide who God forgives, we too must forgive others. Thank you for your insightful comment!

@@jessoladi You’re absolutely right. When you love those who will never show it in return and forgive those who make it harder each time, you realize the judgment they cast was never yours to carry. And when you realize it was never yours to carry, the grace on the cross radiates all the more. Thanks for the video. Praying over your ministry.

@@keolaparagasamen speak the truth! I think since Jesus could say on the cross, father forgive them for they know not what they do.. then I can forgive people who wrong me too.
