What is your recommendation to someone who is living in the world, who does not have the opportunity to withdraw from it, to remain in Christ and not be ‘of’ the world? Who lives on an island where there are no Orthodox spiritual fathers? I am planning to get confirmed into the Catholic Church in September, since my seeking and praying has led me that the Orthodox and Catholic Churches are the two churches who are most apostolic in nature. Do you know if the Catholic Church has similar clergy who can guide one in their journey?
None of us is able to run this course alone, we all need someone else to carry us forward for a while from time to time - by learning to trust and follow each other in our weak moments, we ultimately learn to do that with Christ. Please keep us in your prayers

Hello, I am finding it hard to understand obidience in my life. Who can I be obedient to if I am a 28 years old woman living with my parents and currently unemployed. I don't have a spiritual father and I am catholic. I know obedience is VITAL to growing spiritually but I'm finding it difficult to understand obedience in my current state in life which makes me so scrupulous.
We can always try to be obedient to Christ, and may you also be obedient to your parents with honor. It seems you dont attend church, take a visit to your local orthodox church, perhaps someone there will help your with transportation if that's an issue. See what it is to have a spiritual father, and may you be blessed!❤❤❤
Why, you are faithful to Christ, of course. Your allegiance belongs to Him, first and foremost. And you are (supposed to be) obedient to the Church of Christ: to the Apostles, to the bishops and priests and church fathers, to the councils, etc. - for who hears them hears Christ. And you are obedient to your parents, as the Lord says, "Honor your father and your mother". And you are obedient to the government of your country.

I've been revisiting your words on confession; they were very helpful when I went to confession yesterday-hearing, rather than being heard; reflecting on sources, not just symptoms. I'm sure you are often asked this, but your conception of a spiritual father seems distinct (though perhaps not necessarily separate) from a parish priest: Is it wise or foolish to seek a spiritual father outside one's parish, and would a parish confessor be bothered to discover his spiritual children looking elsewhere?
The fact is, God does not allow evil, though not in the sense you use the word... This might be just a word game, but perhaps God allows evil because evil is not a real thing (meaning it has no substance, unlike goodness which is rooted in God's own being). There is absolute Good, but there is no such thing as "absolute evil". Everything evil we see around us is essentially just imperfect and marred goodness, and it is marred because of the Separation from God - but even then it has a great potential for good when it is brought into God's hands. The only situation when God does not allow or tolerate evil is when it is permanently separated from Him... and that's the reality in the Last Judgment. When it comes to suffering, it could be said that suffering is actually our calling as humans. All self-improvement and growing requires changes and struggling and sacrifices (the most mundane example would be studying or gym training). Before there can be something new, something old must "die". The reality of sin has twisted this by producing bad suffering, but suffering in itself is not evil thing, but simply the way how we are, and very often we suffer joyfully without paying attention to it, even enjoying it.
Personally i don't believe you can actually do this journey without a guide. You'll make mistakes and there will be no one to tell you. Next thing you're lost. We're in communion
If someone comes to you and starts talking about worldy objects or worries than tell him i have something more important to do and continue the jesus prayer ☦️
Ignoring people who are coming to us to share their troubles and ask us for help is not what Christ and the saints taught and did. This is also not what Fr. Seraphim is talking about here.
I beleive we as a community in Christ should share each other's burdens. We are obliged to correct and bring each other up through Christ centered fellowship. Holy spirit will work through us, correcting each others flaws. We cannot be saved alone, but we can save each other.

If God is all goodness pure and omnipotent, why does He allow evil?
...And why did he create sentient beings able to suffer?

The reality of sin has twisted this by producing bad suffering, but suffering in itself is not evil thing, but simply the way how we are, and very often we suffer joyfully without paying attention to it, even enjoying it.
Personally i don't believe you can actually do this journey without a guide. You'll make mistakes and there will be no one to tell you. Next thing you're lost. We're in communion
If someone comes to you and starts talking about worldy objects or worries than tell him i have something more important to do and continue the jesus prayer ☦️
Ignoring people who are coming to us to share their troubles and ask us for help is not what Christ and the saints taught and did. This is also not what Fr. Seraphim is talking about here.
I beleive we as a community in Christ should share each other's burdens. We are obliged to correct and bring each other up through Christ centered fellowship. Holy spirit will work through us, correcting each others flaws. We cannot be saved alone, but we can save each other.
Thank you, Father Seraphim! What a beautiful description of the relationship between the spiritual father and his spiritual children. This may be the best argument for the sacrament of Confession. It certainly is a beautiful mystery how God allows us to participate with him in helping each other, and working out our salvation together, since no one is saved alone. Glory to God for all things.
