No one told me I should do the hair separately before, I used to do the whole masking with the hair over and over again to make it better. Thank you ❤️
You're welcome, George! No one told me either. I had to figure it out 😂🤣
I can't thank you enough. I am a beginner and struggle with a lot of PS techniques. I spend a lot of time photographing dogs so hair is always an issue that i have never managed well. Your help is invaluable. Thank you!
Brilliant! Best explanation of manual edge refinement I have seen so far. Thank you for explaining the principles behind it. With that explanation, I am able to apply the technique even in CS6.
Excellent tutorial! Thanks for sharing. At the 9:55 mark, you begin painting over the areas of hair that should remain hidden to the background; I've found doing this type of edit to be easier using Mask view mode. This lets you quickly see the grey, transparent areas that have been cut into the image by the refine edge tool.
I used to cut out my subject in one go, but since watching your tutorials I now do it in two parts. Thank you Jesus
Way to go Jesús. I loved the video. The two-step process makes so much sense now that I've seen it. And as for the minimize filter, DUH, I've spent so much time messing with modifying selections and this makes it so much easier. Thank You!
Ahhh, thank you for this! I've always been bad with extracting a subject from a background, even a more solid one. I'm going to try it out!
Fantastic: comprehensive but succinct delivery of powerful techniques and easy to use tips every time. PTC never disappoints! And, no I had not realized how to do this two step technique in that one could go back in an do another refinement like that. Thanks for linking to the Adobe Stock Image too, was great to follow along with the exact same photo. Thank you! :)
I was always confused about the hair selection. After watching this video, I finally realized that the global refinements also affact the hair selection a lot. The two step process is really an efficient way. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks buddy for another great tutorial! You explain everything very clear so its not hard to follow. A couple of years ago when i started watching your photoshop tutorials i wasnt able to catch up. During the lockdown i also watched over 200 hours of phlearn pro tutorials. I am now recognizing steps well and able to make good selections. Its awsome
Thanks for another informative video. The two step process is genius. I've watched a lot of refine edge videos and never really understood the radius function. You have really cleared up a lot of confusion for me.
Great tutorial. I had always worked on hair separately from body before, but you have given me new methods on how to do this. Thanks.
Jesus thank you so much, this is by far the Best ADOBE training on online especially RUclips. Your teaching skills are perfect. Your "behind the scenes" explaination of how the Adobe Ai works was great. It really helped me to understand more about what happens. I am only a beginner but with your help, I am learning fast. Right now, I am using my knowledge to create product photos and this video helped tremendously.
This two step method is really great. I was always trying to do a balancing act with my global refinements, but now I see that is not necessary. Thanks!
Just working on a black backdrop cutout for my newborns photos. This is going to help so much ❤️
I knew this was worth watching again to really get it. Your notes were so useful. I was able to add my own additional notes as I went through the tutorial. I got it. Thanks!
You have made cutting out hair so much easier for me now. Thank you for the wonderful rundown of what to do!
This tutorial also teaches a very good method of eliminating/reducing fringes or hallows around the masked image(s); the minimum/maximum filters... ThanX again...
It is very good learning from this tutorial that we shall use different edge refinement adjustments for the hair and rest of the image.... In fact this idea becomes very handy and useful for the objects which response differently with different edge refinement adjustments... we shall use different refinement adjustments for different types of edges of the object.... ThanX
so many good tips to take away... I never knew that was how the edge refinement tool worked. That's a game changer for me. Thx!!!
Just found JR and his training videos last week for new Photoshop 2020 new. Great training style and information from an obvious master. Subscribed and will be watching more posted and new training videos.

Love your 2 step process Jesus. I normally mask hair separately but using two masks, one for the hair, one for the rest of the subject. I then merge them later. Your method is much better, I'll start doing it this way going forward 👍

the 2 steps method really gave a ''plus'' to my extractions: thanks !!!

Thanks again for a great tutorial!!
2-step process is genius! Thank you!
Amazing tutorial, well recommended
Great tutorial! This is an essential skill to learn, and yours is the best video I've found so far. I very much liked: ... the way you explain WHY / HOW things work ... the orange outline highlighting tool you're discussing ... your very clear speaking voice and rate ... especially like scrolling each labelled section to refer back/skip beginner explanations. One wish: your pointer is hard to see/follow. Could you make that a brighter colour, like the orange you use for the tools? Thank you for producing current content and providing guidance for older versions. I'll be watching more of your videos!
One of the best tutorials! God bless you! All of you!
Awesome as always! Thank you, Jesus. I too never did hair separately before.
