I really loved watching him at the AFA back then. My overall favorite was Martin however followed by R.L. then Dennis and Woody was awesome as well. Eddie was decent but when it came to flatland in 88, he seemed to of had issues. He was brilliant prior to 86 however. I rode for mcs back then but when Billy and Kevin was picked up by GT during their tour with Martin , Josh white and Brian scura, The mcs team was destroyed. Marlow went riding for the six flags theme parks much like Donnie Cook leaving the profile team to go ride for Sea World in California and I went off to college in 88 followed by marriage. It's a shame what I heard about Billy however being killed in desert Storm while fighting in Iraq. He was a champion on the bike while being a hero on the battlefield. As far as I know, Dennis still rides today but I have not seen any recent videos. Dennis was so very talented on the ramps. Who remembers his iconic well performed "look back X ups" ?
I used to ride with Dave mirra back in upstate New York...we were on the same freestyle team...we knew back then he was something special....it was an honor to call him a friend.....I remember me him and his brother Jamie drove to Wayne New Jersey to watch him compete......met D McCoy too...Rip Dave Mirra!!
I rode bikes in downtown Kansas City in the 1980's. There was a kid there named Dennis McCoy. He was JUST beginning to get those skills sharpened. Then, a few years later... #1 BEST IN THE WORLD. YEAR AFTER YEAR. Thanks for putting this up!
Holy shittakes! I was just as excited watching this now as I was back then! Dennis was the man! He was definitely the flatland master! So fluid and smooth! He was untouchable! Just amazing!
@simom le In 1988, there was not a pro flatland rider remotely close to him. There was a large gap between him and the 2nd place pro flatlander. Please know what you're talking about before you try to srgue.
dmc is a real pro- so quick on the ground so rad in the air- It takes so much talent to ride in all disciplines- DMC is definitely one of the greatest riders. I bet he is still riding-
I have vid. from 87, at the master finals where he tied with R.L., and battled it out at the tie breaker. Yes, he was untouchable, but at the same event, an unknown rider was there, Kevin Jones, whom paved the way for alot of rolling tricks( I quit after that) and I have that footage also. I have so much video, also have Jessie Puente in 87, riding at the Socko event in Huntington Beach.
I rode BMX bikes to starting 1 years old through 30 years of age then got into mountain biking at the age of 30 when I was 1 years old through 29 years of age I still got into bmx FLATLAND bikes love it .
You know what i love is dennis matt dave they all were great at flatland vert street whatever they would compete in every event i just wish i could ride like these guys i remember seeing dmc at 6 flags missouri with tony hawk they fucking killed it best show i ever saw watching rad eddie fiola and all those guys and these guys they made me hyped up to go ride still i watchvthis video i want to get my bike out n ride thats what i love bout bmx
I agree. To me this looks a lot better than today's freestyle, which seems to be only whilring and rolling. And what's up with these silly small handlebars these days?
Dennis IS the Haro Master. Best overall rider I’ve ever seen. The kid had it all. He was flat only at first. One year I saw him start hitting the ramp in practice and the next year he came back blasting. That’s when I really saw how ugly goofy riders looked. (Todd Anderson, Tony Murray, and Ryan Nyquist excluded) It just looked more effortless and smooth regular. So being goofy and Dennis McCoy in 17X were what made me realize I was kicking a dead horse with the wrong foot. So I gave up on foolish dreams. Got in line. And obeyed. I kind of get the whole suicide bomber thing now.
My favorite kind of run it had old-school and new school tricks together. To be honest that is why I don’t like the runs of today. All spinning but nothing old school. I like a mix like this. Still bitter cherry picker, Miami Hopper wow.
dmc was super good.....but not best ever = joe Johnson/Hoffman/wilkerson/mirron and a BOY named dave mirra>aged 15...all beat him many times on vert over the next five years!
richard anthony Phillips but did they beat him on flatland? DMC was the best all around rider,he has won flantland, sreet, and even vert. He is one of the best during his time.
dave mirra beat dmc in his first ever pro comp on street, mini, vert, jumpbox and flatland! that's how he got his nickname THE MIRACLE BOY!!! im not sure of the year 92 or 93..?
dave mirra was a good flatlander but DMC in his time was a king, props to DMC and his consistency during those times. can't compare these 2 riders, they both come from different flatland scene's, mirra is a plywood hood and had kevin and chase as an inspiration.
I think it looks slow motion now.peoplw are just balancing around going in circles. it's whack. if it wasn't for skate parks poping up everywhere I wouldn't even care for flatland
funky chickens, lawnmowers, flails, hang fives!!! I used to be able to do it. pulled a whiplash off about a year ago. sad i know. 35 and 225 pnds its harder now.
Anyone else in their 40s getting goosebumps watching this in 2019?! Sheesh.
John Galang Yep right here. I can believe how far ahead Dennis was at this point. Awesome!
yup, where did the time go?
Only in 2020. :-)

Dennis is hands down my biggest influence in BMX. Always setting the bar. Love to meet him some day and just say thanks for the inspiration.
I rode bikes in downtown

Best overall rider of that era. Best flatlander and top 3 vert rider.
@simom le In 1988, there was not a pro flatland rider remotely close to him. There was a large gap between him and the 2nd place pro flatlander. Please know what you're talking about before you try to srgue.
Krt,
When we saw Dennis, we saw a glimpse of The Future...
There is no one like "The Real" McCoy. :)
this footage is spectacular!
thanks
dmc is a real pro- so quick on the ground so rad in the air- It takes so much talent to ride in all disciplines- DMC is definitely one of the greatest riders. I bet he is still riding-
Smoothest, sharpest coolest most precise freestyler of them all. The best by far!!
That was so progressive at that time. Sick line, evolving the sport into the new era. Thanks Dennis!
• This in '88... way ahead of the pack!
MulletRecords The Real McCoy
Dennis could NOT be touched back then. Hell... he's what? 42 or so nowadays and STILL a hell of a rider. He was always one of my favorites.

How old was Dennis there??? he's so good. He looks real young.
Scorcher2112 23
he was born in 66,, that would make him 22 in his prime...Bob Haro signed him in either 84 or 86?
Wow that's insane it brings back memories and he is the s*** that's like so many tricks and one for minutes wow The real McCoy
that is still bad ass!!

"my shoes never touch the floor"
DMC is the G.O.A.T does anyone know what colour Haro Master he's riding?
I think he rides green
I wanna say it's the black and red one. I gotta coral one but they didn't make many coral masters.

Ha ha verygood idol
Awesome tricks. That kid screaming yaaaaa all the time was really getting on my nerves.
Who is that annoying kid yelling in the back ground everytime DMC gets close to him????
ya, it looks like a ballet. bring out the too-toos.

dave mirra was a good flatlander but DMC in his time was a king, props to DMC and his consistency during those times. can't compare these 2 riders, they both come from different flatland scene's, mirra is a plywood hood and had kevin and chase as an inspiration.
Love Dave Mirra, but you put Dennis McCoy and Dave doing flatland in their prime and Dennis wins. He was too smooth and precise, he was clinical!!
seriously? i think this looks like shit compared to now lol its waaaaay sicker now yea right
I think it looks slow motion now.peoplw are just balancing around going in circles. it's whack. if it wasn't for skate parks poping up everywhere I wouldn't even care for flatland
