Almost mechanic: one Pagani Design Chronograph for small wrists. All variants in a panda galore.

  • Pagani design goes sub 40 cm with its PD-1739. That means that finally they sell a watch that is suitable for small wrists (15 cm). I will also compare it to the famous seagull 1963. These watches seem to be an honest copy of the Furlan Marri (mare blu 1051-a, Mr. Grey 1041-a, Havanna salmon 1031-a), which of themselves are a hommage to the Pattek Phillipe 1463. These more original Watches are quite unatainable: the original costs a big house, the original hommages are retired models.
    I bought one watch and it ended up in a panda galore. I was always put off buying a PD because of the size of their watches. Now I noticed a quite affordable sub 39mm watch and I bought the grey one first. I liked it, especially on the Milano bracelet, which actually fitted my 15 cm wrist well. Then some excuse clicked into place: since I wasn't going to buy any moonswatch anymore, why not have my fun with these, which are thrice as cheap, but a multitude the quality? And so I greedilly bought the other watches on milano strap as wel. They did not disappoint.
    The grey one is nice, but plain and it lacks the concentric circles in the sub dials, does not have a sunburst in them and therefore is the most legible but somewhat flat/cheap looking.
    The blue one has a denim/grey undertone and has a gorgeous play of light. At first I thought not another blue watch, but wow.
    I am hugely conflicten about the salmon pink/ maroon one. I hate the maroon, which is not readible at all and in low light drab to boot. I don't particularly like the combination with the old pink, but how this watch pops is incredible. It is some kind of guilty pleasure to me and I dont have anything that comes close to this outrages warm colour scheme. Its sparks burned my brain and I like it.

    Nice video. Very informative. I like the look of those watches. They appear to be very expensive. To an average non-watch enthusiast (like me), it appears (at quick glance at least), you could have a $50,000 watch on your arm 👍 or maybe even a Patek Phillippe Grand Complications !! I'll check out your other videos. Keep up the great work.

      The devil is in the details however. Although the cases have more elaborate finishing, the dial is really flat looking in that smooth rounded case. That is the one thing that is off. The "1963" has a more pillow shaped elevation in the dial which completes the watch rather nicely in comparison. This flatness is especially obtrusive in the greytone dial, because appart from the colour differences, there is nothing going on with the texture, which is rather paper like almost everywhere. The interesting thing is there appear to be concentric circles in the subdials underneath all the paint. It looks as if they were just covered by the paintjob, which is a shame.

    Great video, that Pagani might be one of their best kept secrets.
    The sweeping quartz movt is so nice too, it's the way ahead for quartz watches, I'm a big fan of it.
    Thanks

    Te escuche describir el reloj de esfera azul como un verdadero artista.
    Así que me lo tuve que comprar y es precioso, muchas gracias por tu video!

    I got the blue version. Very nice chronograph watch. VK 64 chronograph ticks at 5 steps/second. ST1901 ticks at 6 steps/second at 21600 bph

      I am rather smitten with the blue one too. Interesting thing is that it has almost the same colour as my car. I really love how the AR complements the watch. It kind of adds a little depth in the colour scheme.

    Point of criticism I forgot to mention: the dials on these watches are flat as a pancake. With the salmon/maroon and the blue one this is a bit less obvious given the variation in surface finishing, but with the grey one it stands out, especially because the saphire is so nicely domed and the watch feels very much rounded off like a pebble. The Seagull by contrast has a much nicer shaped dial, raised in a bit of a pillow shape.

    Hello. I am new to watches. Can you tell me what is the purpose of the small shield on the right side?

      @Ohne_Silikone Год назад

      You mean the crown wheel? That is the wheel with which you set the time by turning it. The pushers are just there for the stopwatch. With this watch you first have to unscrew it though, since it is a screw down crown, that helps prevent getting water in that way. The shield itself is just the brand logo, signed on the crown. It is just estatics.

    Most of PD1739 chronographs have misaligned chronograph’s minutes counter hands. There also is an imperceptible issue at first look with the minutes register function when you start the chronograph. When acting on the pusher to start the chronograph, the hand moves back left before jumping to its previous position or a bit further on the right of the start position. That’s a bummer.

      That is true. Mine jumps a tiny bit forward on pushing, to only run a tad behind afterwards. My other PD watches with the same VK movement do the same. Thing is though my seagull 1963 has the same issue with jumping forward. It must be an mechanical thing and at entry level costs I don't mind that much.

    pLz ...indicate Lug to Lug length ?

    • @buying_Time
      @buying_Time  Год назад

      Lug to lug on the Pagani Design measures a happy 42-43 mm. The '1963' has a much wider lug to lug of an estimated 50 mm and can be typically categorised as a small diameter watch designed for full sized male wrists, although it does work on smaller wrists as well, given how the lugs reach downward quite a bit.
