- Your looking at a police car crown Vic converted to a Dodge Charger hero car/ jump car at cooters place in pigeon forge Tennessee. built to be the hazzard county duke fest jump car
a durable platform with an awsome body
That thingll definitely take a hit.. crown vic weighs like 4500 pounds. Put a charger body on there you've made a general Lee that can actually hit like the general Lee
Crown vic weighs 3800. That's much lighter than an 05+ charger. Skinned with b-body sheetmetal, it probably weighs 3500
Thank you for the up close detailed video. I spoke with the guy that does these conversions about 3 years ago. The look is great, but function is the issue, (headlights, wiper blades, door & window).
All you need is the door post, windshield post, roof and rear quarter section and you can make it as a show car that’s functional, then you could have roll up glass and wipers and functional doors
@@1194video Are you saying that someone can actually get the door's to open?
@@wildestcowboy2668 not a problem at all, all you need are the a pillars with hinge pillar and you could mount hinges and doors
Who does the conversions?
Wow, that’s remarkable and I bet it rides smooth
Finally, a General Lee I might be able to afford!
Love this, I finally bought a Grand marquis (same as crown vic) to do this with
It’s very expensive to do, at least 6-7k just to mimic the one in the video
@@1194video I have most of the charger metal already, just need a roof & some other stuff
@@9ALiTY How long does it take to build it?
@@wildestcowboy2668 Haven't started yet, waiting for some parts in the mail
@@1194video still cheaper than buying a real one. People want 15g for rusted out car that you'll have to replace body panels anyways.
YeeeeHaaaaaa, you boys keep an eye out for Roscoe! Nice car👍
I was just there yesterday and noticed it right off the bat, the one inside is a real charger though
woooooooohooooooooo! Now that's a project
Why? Why spend the time, effort and money to likely destroy it for the sake of a ridiculous tv show? I love classic cars so much that I am always totally sick over the destruction of the Chargers due to the precious General Lee.
That’s why they use the crown Vic, to not an Origional car and the crown Vic is strong enough to last for several jumps where the charger is too weak
Was just there and gawked at the beauty of this at cooters garage
It’s fun, when I went i had my die cast signed
Truly reinventing the wheel
You know if a guy had the means and could put it together for 25 grand you sell a ton of those !
I bought a crown Vic to build one and started getting into a donor car too and body panels and it was very high to build
Ill take it
The best of both worlds
i want one so badly
where do you get the "General Lee" rims at? Crown Vics have a serious wheel off-set
A 69 charger is very wide, wider than the Vic. I’m sure they have them online as replica wheels.
About how much did the conversion cost and where did you get it done at
I build all my own cars but to do one of these it’s best if you have a charger body and it’s very expensive
If you didn't put a mopar powerplant under the hood it is not a General Lee.
The general Lee car is an image not an engine, in fact if you go to the general Lee show it’s a crown big they jump not a weak bodied charger. It would be a crime to destroy a real charger so they use the ford because of strength
Can you buy all the parts you need to make this functional? i know the a-pillars are not reproduced. Nor the c pillars I believe
I’m gathering the parts to build one myself but I will make it a fully functional car, you will have to find a donor for the A pillar but you can fab the c pillar to work.
@@1194video cool! I was thinking of buying and aftermarket Chassis and either making a fiberglass body, or using aftermarket sheet metal to build one from the floor pans up. That way I can use a proper 440 or 426. I love the CV platform but I’d like to make it at as close as possible and with the CV engine it limits that. The pros of fiberglass is obviously it would not rust. Kind of like the lambo replicas you see.
@@1194video You can do this with almost any car as they pretty much reproduce everything.
@@formula9377 I have worked on the Lamborghini bodies before and there are a great deal of work involved but if done right it’s hard to tell them apart
@@1194video Yes! I think making a functional car out of a Swartz chassis, and welding your own support bar/cage to mount sheet metal to would work. You could do everything front to back with aftermarket sheetmetal on a chassis like that. Not to mention being able to use a correct charger dash/interior. Its a big trail and error game though. Welding your own skeleton to hang the metal onto the chassis should be simple enough.
can you get these insured? i thinking on building one myself but im not sure if thats legal.
You have two options, you can leave it titled as a crown Vic or you can register for a new vin. Then the state will send a guy to come inspect the car once the body is on and give you a vin number and title for the charger
Hey man. Trying to build mine. And anyone who has built one will not get ahold of me
Just trying to find out how this Crown vic snd re body is street legal. I feel like if i build mine i won't be able to get it street Legal
@@AustinH2024 if you build it like this one you can use the crown Vic numbers since you just skin the Vic, it’s not an actual body swap u less you do full jams with functioning doors and body parts, otherwise you can have it registered with a new vin number, I have a video on this
@@1194video thanks man
@@1194videoreally want to build one. Any advice for someone who never welded before.
@@AustinH2024 buy several scrap pieces of steel and practice on each thickness and test its strength til you get good at welding then start off with small projects until you are confident you can achieve the big.
@1194video Not trying to spam your comments. Just can't find any information on RUclips. Your videos are awesome man where do you buy the structure parts for the roof skin etc.
Is there a good way to tell if it’s a crown vic? Except the dash?
The engine will be a 4.6 another way
@@1194video Thanks mate
Can’t a guy use say a early 70’s Plymouth fury 2 door as a body frame and put charger panels in it?
You can a Cornet but the back glass is different
Pretty sure the wheel base on a 72 fury would work to just do the outer skins and call it a mopar kit car
Where do i order the body panels
AMD or AutoMetalDirect
The only way to improve a ford.
@@SteveGranger-wc3mp excellent way to do it for sure
