Awesome video.. I have had Stihl products 20 years+.. big fan of br600.. and I need to do this to two of mine 🛠️
Thank you sir for making this video. Really helpful!🙂
As a Stihl tech this video is spot on!
Good video thanks! .010 seems a little loose on the valve clearence but you way of doing it.
SUCH a great, informative and useful video. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I'm going to take my BR600 apart tomorrow and see if its the engine pan causing the leak. Thanks again.
Best video out there on tear down and reassembly! Thank you!
Excellent and easy to follow video! Im a Landscaper and have used Stihl blowers for over 20 years and in my experience they start leaking around 2 years old. Ive always just pressure washed them weekly but now I know how to fix the problem. Thank you sir!!
Thanks!

EXCELLENT VIDEO very easy to understand thank you 👍
The best video on here❤
Thank you for shop class 👍😎🇺🇸
I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. Very informative.
Great video. I have a BR 600 I have to pull apart and this video is a great reference. I have seen a couple of others where it looked much more complicated than you have made it seem. Thanks
wow Sr: you make it easy how removed all parts. cool

What size are the crank pan bolts? I have a lost one
That was great. I'm wondering though, would it not be a good idea to use some thread locker on the pan bolts?
I have used thread locker in the past but still had the pans come loose. When the heads of the bolts break off it makes them very difficult to get out of the engine block with locktite also.
@@wallysworkin823 Ahhh... that makes sense. So, if you don't mind maybe you can help me out. I bought a br600 for $50 "for parts", hence the reason for watching your tutorial. Tore it down as it was making the same kind of noise that was shown by Taryl Fixes All in his video, and I don't see any issues with the wrist pin. After disassembling it looks great with no scoring or anything. The piston itself has minimal scoring that JUST catches a finger nail, and the cylinder has even less. The inside looks like it was getting lots of oil, and the bearings seem to be in just as good of shape. Prior to teardown I did a compression check and it was almost identical to my other working br600. You mentioned something about carbon may get caught in the valves but I assume there would be compression issues. Could this be the problem? Confused backyard mechanic. Cheers.
@@whonnockboyHave you checked the timing and the cam gear?
@@nichenjie It ended up being a bad bearing thankfully on the output shaft side. Didn't have to much with the timing gear, got a jobber replacement from some place in Texas, and it now runs great. Just had it out today, in fact.
How do you check forsure that bearings are bad without taking them off they’re spinning freely barely side to side play my blower lost power so I took block off and everything seemed fine cylinder was good piston was moving freely clips and pin were good & timing I’m not sure what happened I had another one given to me and nothing seemed wrong but same thing happened to it & yes valves were adjusted on both to spect so that wasn’t the power loss.
Thanks, my oil pan is leaking broken
FANTASTIC video! Just purchased a gently used 4 yr old BR600, residential use ONLY from original owner. Runs & starts great, no leaks. He used canned 50:1 gas mix from HD. Can you please recommend any preventative maintenance to avoid the leaking pan issue? Am going to switch over to Stihl Ultra Synthetic & mix it myself. Any advice? Thank you.
IMO the only way to make sure is to take it apart and inspect them
What is the cost to get repaired? mine has been leaking for a while and now wont start?
What are your thoughts about using an anaerobic gasket maker for sealing the pan and timing covers?
Hmm, I’ve never tried it. It’s worth trying, it won’t affect the crank bearing clearance. It would be interesting to see how it would hold up.
@@wallysworkin823 thanks. I may give it a try...
Great Video !!! What is the cost to the customer for this kind of repair? When is it better to just buy a new blower? Thank you for taking your time to make these videos. :)
Is it common to be getting shocked (right hand)while operating the BR600? Is there an anti static wire?
It happens sometimes. Stihl makes a “anti static wire” for blowers. Contact your local dealer.
Thanks for the lesson, I have a 550 and a 600 Whats your thought on the 800 ?
Br800 is just ok, it does have some problems. Check out my video on the Br800

44:17 how long do you normally let the dirko dry before test firing? Ive seen 1hr and ive seen 24 hrs. I know some people are more by the book than others
I like to wait an hour but it’s been as little as 10 minutes. I’ve never had issues either way.
it'll dry in 30 minutes
What’s the alternative for the piston stop
Small rope you can put in the cylinder threw the spark plug hole.
Is there a certain piston stop you recommend?
I recommend the Stihl stop # 4282-890-2700 or similar.
happen to know why shops wont replace the crank bearings? say its not worth fixing?
never mind my internet went out and i didnt see the end before sent. now i know.
Who do you order your parts from and is there genuine Stihl or not I'm only able to find aftermarket
You need to contact a Stihl dealer in your area.
Has Stihl done anything to fix this issue? I’m responsible for 62 of these machines in our fleet, all BR600s and every one of them has this problem
They did an engine update, check out the link below.

Just checked it out! I appreciate the quick response!@@wallysworkin823
Can I use gasoline to clean?
Yes
I'm having that problem, thanks for sharing it, I've been following you since today.
@Wallys Workin, your comment on the wrist pin made me post this, it's not a bearing it's a cheap bronze bushing Here's a good video of whst I mean and why I won't buy a stihl blower. Echo all the way.
ruclips.net/video/UFNzL0_UbH8/видео.html
Yup, that’s why I don’t mess with them. I’ve replaced many many crank shafts due to wrist pin failures. Thanks for the link and the comment.
A 4 stroke with 2 stroke lubrication...
What could possibly go wrong?
People are lazy, people are cheap. That engine demands expensive Stihl supplied oil, of course it will fail.
For the price, it is an expensive turd.
