Using a Hot Comb on Relaxed Hair New Growth 🤔

  • So in this video I'm basically using a hot comb to straighten my new growth to see if it will help me to be able to stretch my relaxer. The results were very good the only downfall is that it was very time-consuming doing this. And I also forgot to mention that it rained for the next two days so my new growth kind of got back puffy again but not as kinky as it was originally. I think this would be a good alternative to help stretch relaxers if you want to do that. But y'all know me, I'll probably relax anyway because I honestly just cannot deal with the matting and tangles. Maybe one of these good old days...

    Back in the day...my mom used the old fashioned hot comb. The one with the black wooden handle and you had to set it on the stove for heat. Vivid memories of a white folded hand towel and that small glass jar of blue hair grease. Once mom turned on the stove, I fearfully knew what was next. A strong warning to hold down my ear or else. RIP Ada Marie. I love you💕

      Lol! I remember using the hot comb and grease! My hair was very long! The key is to not get the comb too hot. My hair is course so I need the paper to be lightly scorched. My hair was long until I started using relaxer. 😕 It's hot comb from now on. :)

      I use the modern one in a form of Red By Kiss Straightening Comb. Nice thing about that one, a person can use on relaxed hair as well. I used it when I use to relax, but I am now post-relaxed. I have not relaxed since July '18. But no plans of big chop. But I can tell some degree of my hair reverting, however.....

    I agree with you 100%. I'm transitioning and have switched from a flat iron to my moms 70 year old stove top hot comb. I know how to use it and if you think about it, the flat iron is more damaging than that hot comb. Once I take the hot comb off the stove, it starts to lose heat. So its not that hot, but its effective.

    You can still straighten your hair with a comb or a straightener. The only thing that would break your hair off is using the opposite relaxer on your already relaxed hair. Unless your hair was already over processed. But even then you still can. Your hair looks so good btw.

I sleep on my left side and the left side of me hair is in bad shape. Flat iron doesn't get close enough to the scalp. When I was a kid all i used was a stove heated hot comb and my hair was very long and thick. Relaxer has taken its toll. I will buy a pressing comb now and i believe it will help. Tfs!❤

      They sure do! I first knew of it in mid or late 90s. Bummer can only get it online now, but I reckon not enough people to use them to sell in stores....

    Yes l think this is a good alternative to stretch your relaxer. Did you put a heat protector on your hair before you start this process?

    I don’t think it’s bad to use heat for stretching, but you barely had new growth so I just didn’t see the point. Maybe it’s because I never wore my relaxed hair straight idk 🤷🏾‍♀️ I was flat twist out/flexi rod kind of girl so I never needed heat. My texture very thick and kinky too so tension is my friend and African Threading was my favorite way to stretch my new growth after month 4 (otherwise it slips off because there’s not enough kinky texture to grip on to).
    Do you.

    • @SW33TSPARKL3

      It lasts as long as there is no humidity or sweat to the new growth. I would just do it once during wash day.

    I personally think you should stay away from too much heat, and just roller set your hair. It woul be very much flatter, also use a shampoo dye for the colour. The right colour would give life. However, great job...

    • @SW33TSPARKL3
      @SW33TSPARKL3  6 лет назад +6

      +meloney riggens it takes forever for my hair to dry in a rollerset plus I don't have the time to get under a hooded dryer nor let it air dry. I'm really not worried about my hair color. I'm jus letting it do its own thing. Thnx for the feedback..
