An idea for a 2 segment display (using rotation)

- A cool idea for a 2 segment display possible by rotating the display. Though this seems unrealistic, I bet someone could make a clock that very quickly rotates the segments.
Thanks to @luxfundred for getting me interested in segmented displays. Развлечения
They already invented a 2 segment display using rotation centuries ago. They called it clock.
😂
Technically no because the the two hands on the block move independently of themselves, but that was smart.
💀
@@astro_pixel8251If you interpret the segments as being based on rotation instead of on/off it works
@@astro_pixel8251🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
A lot of people don't seem to understand this is a challenge lol, you tried your best
Yeah.. tell me about it
Bro really drew a gun and expected us to think "yeah that's a 3"
that gun looks like it shoots a different kind of shot

Interesting idea, I think you should do a 3-segment version, since 2 segments is huge compromise even with the rotation
I agree, it is. If I do a three segment version, do you think I should try to include symbols other than numbers because of the more possibilities? I’m saying this because even a 3 segment display would have more than enough combinations with 2 rotations.
@@flingyourself ehhh I'd say that just doing the numbers with less compromise is fine
@@flingyourself You could do more but I doubt most of the leftover 14 combinations would resemble anything
nice design! kinda phallic but I can live with that
Thanks, and yeah it’s whatever and I’m probably going to make a better version that looks more “official” you could say.
so im not alone thank you
so weird how it looks suspiciously like a flintlock pistol
Different types of displays with rotations already exist (by the way, If you can rotate you can just write all the numbers on the edge of a 360/180 semi/circle (which acts as "1-segment") and put a window over it so that rotating the correct amount shows the required symbol or number). Flip-flap displays-an old display tech used rotation to show any symbol. Also another example is mechanical coin meters found in some old electricity meters also used rotation to show digits.
Wow, that’s really interesting! I never thought about that.
Bro got the gawk gawk 3000 font
That's amazing. Some of those digits are even vaguely not illegible!
Lovely, if weird.
I burst out laughing when I saw what 1 looks like and it just kept getting funnier from there xD Thank you so much for putting this out there
looks like arabic
Our numbers come from Arabic numbers, so I guess that is an interesting thought.
First thought
That is really good for only having 2 segments!
Thank you!!
This will be the Forced Meat one. Nice design, rotation does a lot of help.
I think you did a good job of making them look recognizable in different orientations. It'd definitely take some practice, but I think it's pretty cool.
It's surprising how legible the numbers remained even in such a constricted format. I think 2 is probably the weakest link but everything else is far more plausible than I would have thought.
THIS IS GENIUS!
Thank you!
Did you have to shape it so suggestively?
Maybe you just have a dirty mind! (jk)
🥵
Sometimes being immature can be funny
@@flingyourselfwhy is a pew pew a dirty mind?
You vs the clock she tells you not to worry about:
Looks cool for an clock
This feels like good inspiration for an alien script.
I saw the thumbnail and started hearing the numbers said in my head in a very very strained and either overly quick or overly drawn out manner.
A very good try on a difficult challenge, good job!
3 looks like hal from angry birds
This still requires 4 bits of information, 2 for each segment and 2 for the rotation
Imagine if this guy makes a 1 segment display
This is definitely something
clocks: SILENCE, LIBERAL.
This inspired me to make my own, and I think I did a decent job.

Now do a 0 segment display
Pls do a one segment display (without rotation)
Can we allowed one segment display (that's got to be impossible)
I might try!
Put all the numbers in a circle and rotate the circle so the number you want is at the top

hmm ...
i don't know why it is, i've never seen these numbers before but they feel as familiar as the back of my hand ?

Who would've thought the perfect 2 segment display would be shaped like a *_g u n ?_*
Haha
_кок_
this would look badass in something like Splatoon
Yeah, I think stuff like this would be definitely great for worldbuilding.
It even makes some sense
Is it just me or segment display RUclipsrs are talking over?
I was surprised on how many views I got too. I usually get in the 100s range so this is unexpected for me.
3 is just a gun lol
If we can do rotation, then I've got an idea on a 1 segment display, though it is in 20 dimensions(at minimum).
😆 Sounds cool!
The 4 ate to much McDonalds🗿🗿🗿.
Just have one light on represent one the other light on represent 2 both lights on represent 0 now you have a display that can represent ternary numbers without rotating it.
That is what most 2-segment displays do, but I wanted to make one for base 10.
what do the last 2 numbers mean?
A 2 SEGMENT DISPLAY OF A 180° ROTATION
The thing is, you still wouldn’t have enough combinations to be able to display all digits.
I love @NobelTech 's music
The 2?
The 1 seems kinda off...
yeah yeah yeah i get it already man
Pause.... what kinda shape is that
Did you mean to make them all shaped like that
What do you mean, I tried my best, trust me it’s hard.
@@flingyourself I think it's because the shape is slightly... uh... not advertiser friendly
Clever, but not readable. This has TONS of potential! Well done!
Song?
I can't see the resemblence of the 2, I just see a J, help
the 1 😭
i like the idea, but ain't no way that's a 2
How does 2 and 3 look anything like 2 and 3, the rest are ok
I would say that 2 and 1 should be switched.
8?
I just realized...
The zero looks like the TikTok logo 💀
One segment method ☠️
5 6 9 are the only readable ones to me
I’ll keep working on it!
The trick is mainly that you have to look at just one part of it for it to make sense. For example, 3 is on the left in the digit for 3, and the symbols are both on the far right.
You do realize that with rotation this display creates 4 different configurations of two segments, and 4 x 2 = 8. So you just re-invented the 8-segment display but worse.
Yeah i know its a concept lol, i was just trying to have fun with it
0:22 16 (all possibilities)
12 (excluding off state)
Oh yeah, you’re right
When reversed 6 is 8:
Now 58 is nice
@@yglyglya68?
Why?
okay but it be nice for a quick why just a to prove it can be done would do :/ just asking
now make a 1 segment display
Interesting
Thanks!
1080 combination
Now do a 1 segment display
Yes you can do this. Because If you can rotate you can just write all the numbers on the edge of a circle (which acts as "1-segment") and put a window over it so that rotating the correct amount shows the required symbol or number).
@@AussiePainterandWriter-kk1ob no, we're talking no wheels and windows here. A single segment. Only central rotation is allowed.
@@AussiePainterandWriter-kk1ob ah! Clever solution
Another way to think about it is you can make the one segment out of thick paper so its a bit like saying writing the numbers 0 to 9 on the edge and drawing a circle on it does not automatically split the paper into smaller bits of paper or segments-its still 1 piece of paper or 1 segment but with numbers drawn on it. In other words writing stuff on paper doesn't split the paper.
Things like flip-flap displays which use rotation and pulse meters (sometimes found in old electricity meters) which use rotation were invented decades ago.
The problem of using rotation and circular type segments to display symbols
in a practical and efficient way was solved decades ago.
This 2 segment display looks a bit... Suspicious...
Try doing 1 segment now 😂
It looks like a gun
i mean you tryed but its still good
i probably couldnt make anything better

a lot of compromises tbh

where’s the 2?
It’s kind of an upside down 2. I know this is bad but it’s kind of hard.

what is this Mesopotamian writing? This idea sucks so much that its so cool to write/show number in alien like language we see in the movies.
Sorry

cool concept but half of these are.. not good
I’d be happy to see a design of your own! 😄I think I did pretty good with the challenge I set for myself.
like 8, that looks an another 9
Well some segments are always lighten up so those are always lighten up should not count as a segment use the rotation too
Like one segment display one segment is always lighten up(it looks like a zero) and the other one segment is a one which is binary
