Mechanical engineering project for finishing up college? How long did the entire research, planing, designing, and building took? And did you get help by looking similar design projects?🤔
it is possible by using a winding mechanism, but it would give a few problems. The main issue would be that cardboard wouldn't be strong enough to support the loaded spring, so you'd need to make it out of wood (to keep the theme) or resin. Metal would be out of the question if you want to keep the rest cardboard, since it would weigh too much and thus slowly break the mechanism down by disforming the cardboard. A second problem would be the winding mechanism itself, which (unless you craft and tune its radars and springs entirely by hand with the right tools and knowledge) would give a few seconds to few minutes delay in every hour. Still, if time accuracy isn't a problem, then it is definitely possible. It would be quite a bulky project however.
The amount of engineering in something so simple is so mind boggling...
The end result was satisfying. :)
Yeah, but the process is exhausting
