  • In this video I go over 5 reasons not to get a pit bull! Now I am not bashing the American pit bull terriers or the bully breeds, but I have noticed that some new dog owners and pit bull owners get a pit bull and it turns out to be something completely different then what they expected. Then the are turned into shelters and sometimes don't find their new home. This video is mostly for owners looking to own a pit bull, know what kind of dog breed it is and what it takes to own a pit bull.

I've had dogs all my life. After watching videos and talking to friends who have pits
I decided to get one. So we got our first APBT in 2022. after waiting 2 years after the loss of our 15 yr old lab mix . Our 4 mo.puppy was a beauty and turned out to be such a lover. She was stubborn tho and difficult to train, but she finally got it. Sadly she was diagnosed kidney disease. We had to make the heart breaking decision to put her down. Our hearts are broken and we Miss her terribly. Tho she can never be replaced. We will be looking forward to start over with an 8 week old APBT puppy. With lots of love and attention they are great dogs, big cuddle bunnies and smart. ❤ My APBT

Constantly being vigilant, never putting them in situations they can get into trouble. They r not for people with no time. If u leave them on their own to make decisions then you will have problems. With that being said, they are great dogs when you have the time and patience.

This video is so on point. I recently took in a young stray pit bull terrier that had apparently followed my cat home, because one day I noticed my tabby was sharing his bowl of cat chow with this cute little underweight pittie. Fast forward several months later, Max is what I named him, is happy, healthy, and thriving. However, Max keeps me busy. I definitely have to spend time in training and exercising him.

I have 5 Pit bulls and 2 Bully's I'm a retired trainer (age57 Lady) and can honestly say that the Pit Bull is the most Velcro dog and tuned in to their owners emotions then any other dog breed out there. Their loyalty is unmatched and are easily trainable. The downside to this breed is they can learn bad things just as easily as good things and need a dedicated owner. The best thing you can do for your pittie puppy is let as many people and animals interact with it in it's 1st year as you can possibly find. The seller should be doing the same at 2-3 weeks in a controlled setting.

For me, my pittie girl has been nothing but a joy. She will be 2 years in November and is the 1st dog I've had from a puppy as the others were shelter rescues.
I went with the monthly petly plan at the vet, it's 40 a month but covers unlimited office visits, all shots and routine tests and covered her spay surgery.
Health wise no issues except some skin irritation, but I give her one pet natural skin and coat chew each day (30pk Amazon 4.99) which cleared everything up very quickly.
I did modify my work schedule so I can work from home in the afternoon and go to the office in the morning so she's never alone more than six hours a day, at first I did crate train, but after a few months gave her increased freedom, now she has freedom when in gone and I have no issues at all.
Early desensitization and socialization was key though, from very young I surrounded her with children and other pets, both dogs and cats and now she thrives with all of them. She instantly became best friends with a friend's German Shepard and loves playing (supervised) with the neighborhood kids. Also she was desentized to alarms, sirens, gun range sounds, storms and trained to bark at the sound of the fire alarm to make sure we all wake up if that happens.
Now I am rambling, just to say, it does take dedication but the reward is beyond worth it.

100% correct. My old dog was a lab pitty mix. Over the course of me having her she had:
    - loose stool went on medication for
-food allergies caused itchy ear & skin
    - torn ACL required surgery
-food/toy aggressiveness w/ other dogs (great w/ people)
-Cancer ultimately took her at 10 yrs old in 2020
Still she was my baby. Smart as a whip. Loved training & grooming her. Let her roam the home uncreated while at work. No accidents in the house unless we were too lazy to take her out. Only chewed on stuff when we didn’t buy her new bone/toys. Do your part and you’re golden. Almost about ready for a second pitty.

Also, people interested in APBT's need to know that the breed is very clingy, and emotional toward their owner. In a good way of course. Thats simply because of their unmatched loyalty and devotion to you, no exaggeration. People are often surprised at this breeds devotion. They will place themselves directly in harms way to protect you, no matter what. Thats why when you're finally blessed with the chance of owning one for the first time you'll be taken aback by their love. This breed would literally jump into your soul if it could, LOL. Oh yes, and they're very strong willed so make sure to get some good obedience training starting as early as possible because you cant allow such a powerful breed to not be fully submissive to your demands, as so many owners have sadly allowed.
Anyways, thank you TB for this vid, quality. 👍

I rescued an 11 month male red nose fawn and he has been the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life (except for my kids of course). I never knew how clingy they were though and separation anxiety. I think these 2 things should be a major concept on getting a pittie, also. I usually board my animals when I go to visit daughter but I can't board him because I'm afraid I'll come back to a different dog. I've heard pitties can get aggressive when boarded. I won't risk it. Thank you for making these videos. I just found your channel. My son got his dog 3 years ago. And he was living with his dad up until September of this year. So I wasn't close to his dog until now. Ace isn't trained. And he jumps, barks at everything. And he has NEVER been left alone. If we try leaving him alone he will chew up the wall. Thankfully he is potty trained. Other then these issues I mentioned I have started caring a lot about Ace. And I want to learn how to stop him from jumping and barking at everything that walks past our yard. He also has a lot of anxiety. And seems so stressed out when my sons dad leaves. After Covid my sons dad had to move in,s Or else he would be living in his car. And if it wasn't for Ace I would let him stay in his car 😉. So I am looking for videos to help me with jumping, uncontrollable barking (I don't have a problem with alert barking, or a couple woof woofs) anxiety, separation anxiety and aggression. He bit the landlord last week. Ace approached the landlord with his tail wagging, and allowed the landlord to start petting his head, 2 seconds later Ace was turned and bit him as the landlord backed away and got his hand out of Aces mouth, Ace jumped up to go after him again, Thankfully I was able to grab Ace and pull him back right then. Do you have any advice for me or recommendations to where to start?

I’m getting a puppy in 2wks. I’m now subscribed to your channel to learn how to train him. I’ve had pit bulls growing up, however my uncle who breeds them had them all trained so well. Hoping I can take from your channel and from him being that he’s in Indianapolis and I’m in California

My bully pup broke her tibial bone and it cost me $4K. So yes they can be expensive. She is by far the most intelligent dog I have owned. She learns very quickly. She is loyal, she relaxes when I relax, she's hype when I'm hype (dancing around the house) She is 5 months and I've only had her for 2months and she doesn't sleep in her crate anymore b/c she doesn't use the bathroom in the house and she sleeps next to my bed in her bed. I am glad I found this channel because I learned so much from you and I am proud to be a responsible owner.

Hi there , nice job on the video . Really the people are the more concerning party from the two. I have a 5 years old Red nose baby girl. Skin allergies, character issues every once in a while .. over all naturally super smart and fast adapting towards new things . Food and other dogs is just not working . I have been training her since 3 months and arranged my life around my dog to be honest . That was the toughest thing I had to do , but worth the world today . She is my service dog and we fly across the world 2times per year . The most amazing dog ! No other breeds I've seen to behave so well , to be so easy for training and so loving.. The best dogs also require the best owner . ;)

I am so glad to find your channel. I adopted a 7 yr old pit bull last November after my 3rd golden retriever died from cancer. I must admit to being afraid of the breed. We are Jack's 3rd home he has been around other dogs, cats, and Children. The only problem we have is he barks badly when men try to leave the house, not women. We have been training him with a treat but we don't understand why he acts this way. We also took him to the vet for Teeth cleaning in June 2022 and a lot of his front teeth were broken or fell out, but his back teeth are found. The vet thinks he was on a chain a lot. I had him tested for allergies and changed his died and his hair is growing back. Now he enjoys rides and camping trips. Thank you for the information you put in your videos.

I got my Amstaf puppy last summer. I thought long and hard before getting her , did a lot of research and I agree with everything you said! It’s almost a full time job but it’s so rewarding. She’s a challenge sometimes , so smart and quite stubborn 😅but I’m sure she will grow to be an awesome , balanced dog. I have a disabled child and you should see her interact with him ! Even if she’s quite young she is showing empathy and respectful behaviour towards him, it’s lovely to watch ☺️. Bully breeds are amazing but need leadership and responsible owners . Thanks for this helpful and informative video 😊

My puppy is not exactly aggressive but fearful, we got her 2 days ago and she's 5 months, when my pug pup approaches she's excited at first wanting to play but when he gets closer she gets nervous and stiffens and growls while her tail is tucked. I wanna help her socialize with our other dogs they're extremely nice just get riled up so fast so she gets nervous with all the noise

This video really helped me feel a lot better about having my pit puppy! I already expected them to be expensive. I have money saved for vet emergencies. My partner and I have worked out our schedules well enough that the puppy will only be left alone for a half hour most weekdays, and on weekends is always with us. We are working on socializing with him. I believe we are setting him up for success!

Just adopted a red puppy who had been abandoned. He is around 5 months old and has some skin issues but we are taking care of that with bath and brushing. Our English Bulldog was the type that would lay around all day this puppy we named Sammy the Bull is the exact opposite very active and loves attention which he is receiving in large amounts.

My puppy is in training classes now and we learned quickly it’s very important to have tons of toys because if you don’t everything will get bit up. Their teeth are sharp at 6 weeks lol. I was calling and still do call my Kobe baby shark because their teeth ain’t no joke. Kong toys in my opinion last longer. High energy is correct you gotta keep them moving because they are fast like a bullet daily. You’re video is absolutely correct.

Son of my male Akita. I love both of the breeds, and started training early. They're so loving towards each other and the cats. But they grew up together.
My female is getting fixed next month. I've been around both breeds my whole life. So I'm aware of costs, and take my responsibility as an owner seriously. I'm grateful for your insight into the bully breed. Thank you so much.

My blue nose /razors edge Pitt is highly energetic but he just sleeps when I'm gone. I've left him alone for 4 or 5 hours in the house and he was fine. He got into the trash a time or two but I just learned not to leave anything laying around that I don't want to get chewed up and don't leave the trash where he can get to it. He's 2 years old and he hasn't had any health problems yet. He's very smart.

Hi Ruben. My name is Paula and my daughter rescued a half pit bull....I don't know what the other genetics are.... and we've had her for 4 years now. I've taken a class to learn how to socialize her with other dogs...NO GO! She loves people but does not tolerate other dogs. She was the runt of the pack, the mother had no milk left and the woman kept these dogs in a dark, dirt cellar. To this day, she is just beginning to follow me to my basement. She is so loving it is unbelievable. She is walked 2-3 times per day, runs in the gated back yard and I am wondering if that is enough exercise for her. Also, what is the name of the toy with the ball on the end that you and your dog were playing with? Where can I get one? I've been looking and can't find them anywhere. I'm so glad I found you. Thanks for all the real information.

I use redirection for my girl. A simple "no, leave it" followed by a request for the behaviors I prefer, like an outside toy to chew instead or a ball. Will take time and patience on your part. Exercise will help burn some of that extra energy too. Good luck

Hey man I have a question, so am thinking about getting an American terrier puppy (haven’t seen it yet in person as of 12/14/2020 but will in a few days) the breeder is also a working and hunting dog trainer and he trains the dogs all day. (G-force kennels MA) the parents of the pup am considering are highly trained and I don’t plan on doing half of what he does with his dogs is that going to be an issue? I mean am experience dog owner but she was a sweethearted golden, I say that to say I know how to train a dog but this is a whole different type of dog.

@@noexceptions8438 All dogs need to exercise. You can't classify only pitbulls are for protection. Small walks is exercise for other breeds. If your dog not exercising, they become destructive and bark at everything. I own 3 6 pound small dogs and 82 pound pit dogo, they both need specific playtime and exercise.

@ Their teeth still hurts and break skin. Point is not all pitbulls are killers, it's people who trained them to be bad. Other breed like German shepherds and rottweilers can be bad too. ( just an example)
