    I just purchased a Fluval 207 for my 29 Gallon Community fish planted tank. It replaced a Fluval C3 that did a good job but was getting tired. Shocking how quiet this 207 is!! Love all the bays where I can add and setup that suits my needs! Well done Fluval!!!

    I recently upgraded to a 407 from a SunSun 303b. The reason being is I have a co2 reactor that required a bit more push, the 303b is still a good filter for how inexpensive it is. One thing SunSun (and like) filters are known for is having huge media baskets, so I was a bit worried at first that all of the cycled media wouldn't fit in the 407 because of the basket size. This is where I was most impressed...it fit all of my old cycled media with even a little room to spare. And even being that full of media, the flow is still noticeably stronger than the SunSun 303b and my co2 reactor is now running more efficiently while providing more current inside the tank. Also, for those wondering, 5/8" or 16/22mm hoses fit perfectly on this filter, so I didn't even have to modify my intake and output loops! Now if only their ribbed hosing could be safely adapted to aftermarket intakes and in-line equipment, it would pretty much be perfect and there'd be no need to use the 5/8"/16/22mm hoses. (This is all on a 40 breeder size tank)

    I understand you guys are running a business and need to make sales, but saying to replace the biomedia is kind of misleading.
    If you have proper mechanical filtration, you may not ever need to replace your biomedia unless the product starts to physically deteriorate. Maybe Fluval biomax falls apart fast, I don't know.
    Either way, I've got biomedia that's been in use for 5+ years.
    Also, is Fluval ever going to discontinue the use of ribbed hosing? It's the one thing I (and many others) don't like about your filters.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 лет назад +14

      That is not our intent, as bio-media ages fine pores clog, we therefore recommend partial replacements over time. While we are aware that ribbed hosing is controversial in our opinion the benefits of facilitating installation, durability over time (does not harden like standard pvc flex hosing), and improved I.D which supports flow over time (we have interesting supportive data in long term tests for this), for the few negative points we have heard we have not experienced and have for now decided to stick with our application, we do appreciate your comment, thanks.

      I agree My biomax is good now for 1 yr and my ammonia remover gets replaced every month or so as it gets dirty and used up quick and same with the mech but that is rinsedevery month and changed every 2 months. The filter is filled with gunk and the water is brown the first time. Alos if you do change it, change it one at a time swapping

      @@fluval I think the biggest reason for people wanting traditional style hosing is for plumbing reactors, heaters, atomizers, and other equipment in-line. I've read from multiple sources that Fluval does not recommend doing that with their ribbed hosing and rubber connectors for risks of leaks.

      @@tomthebomb3189 why are you using ammonia removers? Your filter isn’t effective if it can’t remove ammonia and convert it to nitrite and nitrate. Damn I barely need to change water ever and my tds never goes over 300 even with ferts or meds added. Filter cleaned every 3 months, I top up evaporated water but my average tank in the front room hasn’t had a water change since autumn last year. It’s heavily stocked too and doesn’t need changing yet either. Effective filters with effective mechanical and biological filtration is the bomb, companies not telling you how to properly set up your media correctly or efficiently is just a scam.
      I learnt good maintenance and good filtration from the pondguru a long time ago and it would’ve saved me a lot of money because I didn’t listen to fluvals unnecessary expenses from the get go. I use his products too. Bio home is the best media for filters fact.

    I like the ribbed hosing! I just wish you offered it in white! I would love if you offered a white option for everything, but that is a lot of added production cost and might take away from your TM black canister, but for now please a white option for hose and pipes would be cheap to add to the line. With the grey rubber attachments ahhh it would look so cool! While I rarely use it to connect to the inflow and outflow pipes it’s better to get this more expensive hose that I would never buy because it can be useful. If people want the clear pvc you can get like 20’ for $10 from any hw store. I do not understand why this is such a common complaint, any manufacturer that includes it anyways is always ugly and not clear making it totally useless except for WC. Ribbed is nice when you have a funny path where you don’t want a kink then you can connect it to your preferred hose that attaches to your pipes. For me, it’s silicone hose which I have never seen a manufacturer use. This I might prefer because it’s expensive here in the US.

    He says change Chemical Media every month EVEN though he says it lasts 4 or 5 months before it stops working. !!!

      @fluval  4 года назад +4

      Take note that the video is started with the statement that these are "general recommendations, conditions can vary"...meaning from one aquarium to the next depending on what is being kept which can have very significant differences in maintenance requirements. When it comes to chemical media this is the most impacted category in regards to exhausting the capability of the media based on how many fish, what species, their sizes, etc...The same applies to the order of media stacked in baskets, there can be some variability there as well, for the same reason.

    I've had my Fluval 407 for eight months and am very happy with it. However: I accepted Fluval's word that they recommend replacing media as often as they do for practical rather than monetary reasons until I purchased the Fluval silicone lubricant. For four dollars I received a tiny container half-filled with silicone, barely enough to lubricate the 407's three O-rings one time (if I squeezed the container hard enough!). If Fluval is really adamant about the importance of maintaining the filter parts (and their reputation), they should be a little bit more liberal with how much silicone they provide in their packaging.

      @fluval  2 года назад +2

      Hi there, we're sorry to hear about this! 07 series canister filters should be almost soundless - you can't hear them unless you're very close to them. If your impeller if making a lot of noise, verify that the filter was primed correctly, that the hosing follows a straight path from the rim of the aquarium to the canister, and that the entire impeller assembly is clean (there can sometimes be debris left over from manufacturing). • @fluval
      @fluval  4 года назад +3

      If the AquaStop valve has been disconnected properly (close flow regulator, then unplug unit), the hosing will remain full of water. Once you've completed your maintenance, reconnect the AquaStop valve and open the flow regulator: this will fill the canister with water from the aquarium, and as such priming won't be necessary!

      @BigWilsa 4 года назад

      @@althaf120001 I have the 207 and during water changes I keep the filter running. The important thing here is the depth of the intake, obviously you do not want to have the filter running if the water change will take the water level BELOW the top of the cage intake. Mine is quite deep (three quarters down) in my 125 litre, so 10-30% changes are fine.

    I've been considering upgrading the U4 on my Roma 200 to the 207 external filter because I'd like to reduce the time I spend maintaining the tank. After watching this video it seems that while I may be able to extend water changes and media rinses to a once a month job rather than 1-2 weeks on the U4 that I'll have quite a lot of extra parts to maintain and replace? Is there any benefit to me upgrading and if so what are they?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 лет назад +3

      Jack, switching to a canister filter will provide greater filter media surface area & volume which not only extends maintenance intervals but total capacity. The canister filter output when situated at the waters' surface should contribute to somewhat better dissolved oxygen levels as well. Both systems use a magnetic drive motor with a magnetic impeller and in that sense are quite similar. We also prefer an external canister filter in terms of being able to access the pre-filter stage to regularly export trapped waste without having to enter the aquarium to do so.

    • @fluval

      Chris, at the very beginning we clearly point out that the replacement frequency is dependent on your particular filter and tank set up, as you are likely aware there can be differences in types, size and numbers of fish as well as the decor used, tap water quality and a number of other factors and circumstances that could very well necessitate changing chemical media more often.

Please verify that the impeller assembly is clean and correctly installed, that the filter has been properly primed (always ensure the filter output is above the water surface when priming), and that the hosing follows a straight path to the aquarium with no kinks, loops or excess.

    Instead of A325 silicon lubricant is it possible to use Durex or Glyde silicone lubricant? Or is it totally different?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  4 года назад +2

      It needs to be 100% silicone paste, the products you are providing as examples have different applications and additives that could be an issue.

    What is the ID and OD of ribbed hoses for 307 and 407?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  4 года назад +2

      ID and OD of the rubber connectors is the important dimension, they are the same for both models at 18/22 mm respectively.

    Replace carbon once a month and only replace biomedia when it begins to break down or if you fail to keep it clean.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  4 года назад +1

      Depending on the circumstance chemical filter media such as carbon may have to be replaced more often as once it is exhausted there is no other option.

    I have 2 of these 307 + 406 and they are very good filters.
    Some notes though, you can buy a much bigger tube of silicone grease off the shelf for £4.99 that does the same as the fluval lubricant.
    You can replace the ribbed hosing with thick walled clear plastic good quality pipe.
    Much easier to clean using a pipe cleaner and no need to remove from tank to flush out.
    And please just buy a massive pack of pond filter sponge and just cut your own to size, you’ll save a fortune.
    And yes the ribbed hosing is terrible and pretty much non compatible with any other aquarium products for example adding an in-line CO2 diffuser/reactor or heater nothing will connect to it.

    The water circulation is not good in the 207, the dirty is not storage where it should, very disappointed, the dirty is in every place except where it should be....

      Fluval Canister Filters are designed to be convenient and quick to access for regular maintenance, removing and rinsing the foam pre-filter section is highly recommended for optimal performance.

      @@fluval thanks for reply, well the thing is that the dirty was 60% in the hose that takes the water from the aquarium into the canister.. not sure why, it was the first usage. I'm using the 207 at max power now to see if the dirty is most storage in the canister foam, where is easiest to clean.

    I cleaned everything and put it back, but the filter is not working now. I tried and tried. The propeller works (I tested it), but when I put the head of the filter back on the body, there is no suction of water.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  6 месяцев назад

      Hi there! It's very important you do not use Vaseline, as this substance dries out rubber gaskets and will cause your filter to fail. We recommend only using Fluval Silicone Lubricant: fluvalaquatics.com/us/shop/product/silicone-lubricant

    • @fluval

      As necessary, given it is fully visible if you see any build-up it can be quickly and easily addressed during any maintenance interval, a good hose brush will eliminate any residue or algae or bacteria accumulation.
