    I am more confused than ever! Have the 307 for a 55 gallon tank. Having tropical fist (or any kind for that matter) is not a passion or hobby - it's what she wanted so she go it :) and I am the one tasked with maintaining. Having a reference sheet to show what is recommend / optional for each canister basket would be more than helpful!

    It would be helpful if fluval could produce a leaflet stating order of filter media in the baskets as I’m not sure where the chemical, biological and mechanical filter media should be placed in the 4 canisters of the 407. Having has juwel filter before the leaflet they enclosed provide really useful. For now though could you help me out with what goes in which basket, is it biological at the bottom going up to chemical or other way round? Also I intend to use pre filter am I right in thinking this would go in the very bottom basket?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 лет назад +1

      The order of filtration should always be mechanical -> chemical -> biological. Given that many types of media serve more than one function (foam, for example, is both mechanical and biological) and that a variety of media combinations are available, providing a precise recommended placement is difficult! In the case of the 407, yes, the pre-filter should go in the bottom basket and the biological media should go at the top!

    • @mongreldaddy
      @mongreldaddy 4 года назад

      @@fluval surely its mechanical -> biological -> chemical as chemical should be the last stage of the filtration, why remove the bacteria before it reaches the biological stage

    I have a number of your canister filters 2 x 406, 305, 205, 206 AQ 20,30,50,100, U3 and U4. With all due respect, the prices for your sponges are ridiculous compared to what I pay for bulk orders on Amazon. Sponge is sponge.

    You mentioned all the chemical pads that can into the canister filter, But certain ones are for freshwater and salter water can you make things a little clearer on which media can be used for either fresh or salt water?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  8 месяцев назад

      Hi there! In general, Fluval chemical media can be used for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The only exception would be Peat Granules, which are only suitable for freshwater tanks!

    I had been using a 307 for about 7 months now.. I found that that red bracket with the blue sponge pre filter is taking up too much space. I rather have more space for the bio media. Now that I'm using a sponge as a pre filter at the in take strainer, the blue sponge is now useless only taking up space.. this 307 is also not as effective as to polish the water as now I'm using another internal filter with polyfill to do the job.. the current basket space for the bio media is not quite enough as its install in a 65G tank.. I had to find other ways to put in more bio media.. Overall.. 307 is just a little too small for the stated up to 65G tank.. The flow of 1100L/ h is quite alright just it will be perfect if the pre filter area in the cannister can be modified to be use for more bio media..
    Thanks.. Like to hear what others think about it!!

    Tell me why I should buy any of fluvals media.
    Why would I need to buy ammonia remover, or nitrite remover?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  3 года назад

      Hi there, Ammonia and Nitrites are toxic to fish in any quantity. You would need an Ammonia or Nitrate remover to remove them from the aquarium, should they be present through a water test, so that they don't harm your fish. Hope this helps! 😊

    • @fluval
      @fluval  3 года назад

      Hi there, the 07 filter media cannot be used with our hang on back filters unless cut to size. For optimal filter performance it would be best to use the media made for your filter! 😊

    What order would you best have the chemical foams in the filter?? Ammonia, nitrate then phosphorus?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 лет назад +1

      Given the specific nature of what the chemical filter media pads absorb there is no preferred order, you may stack them in any order you wish.

    In my chemical filtration basket, can I put the bituminous carbon on top of the ammonia pad and nitrate pad since the first two will be pads and the carbon is more of a loose substance? I want to stack my chemical basket (from bottom to top) with the ammonia pad, nitrite pad, and then the carbon. Would this be acceptable?

    Does anyone know if it's ok not to have the Media Basket Cover on the top of the media? When I had mine it made a very loud noise so I'm assuming against the propeller.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  Год назад

      Hi Luke, we do not recommend running Fluval canister filters without the Media Basket Cover. Noise originating from the filter suggests that the impeller assembly needs to be replaced. As the only moving part in your filter that operates 24 hours/day, the impeller does eventually wear and is therefore not covered under warranty. Also, verify that the filter has been properly primed (always ensure the filter output is above the water surface when priming), as this will help ensure trapped air is not the cause of the noise!

    • @Luke-gf7bv
      @Luke-gf7bv Год назад

      @@fluvalHi‚ it's a brand new filter and properly primed with no air inside. I have managed to remove some of the media and put some filter floss at the very top underneath the media basket. It's quieter than before but still making noise. Also not sure if this means anything but the white stick in the propeller it can come out by pulling it and doesn't have a rubber attached to it (I think it might be at the bottom) is this part always suppose to be connected to some rubber?

    How much for a 40 breeder of the aquatic peat ? Trying to get the ph to around 6

    • @fluval
      @fluval  Год назад +1

      Hi there, great question! The answer depends on a number of factors, the most important of which is the buffering capacity of your water. If your water is very soft, you won't need much peat at all, whereas if your water is harder, you'll need a lot more! We recommend starting with some, and testing your water regularly to see if you need to add more! 👍

  • @fisharefriends598
    @fisharefriends598 5 лет назад +2

    Pre filter media, that’s as tough sell on the 206 or 306.. I’d rather have foam then biological, in reality you need basket system on left and right. You don’t need that much sponge. Half is sufficient. I’d rather put a course sponge on intake, med and fine in canister.
    Please optimise your next filter line, I know your just saving these optimisation for the next x many releases, but just do it once. And do it properly !!

    • @robertfletcher3421
      @robertfletcher3421 5 лет назад

      Monkey Nut you have raised a very good point. That is a filter needs to be flexible enough for the user to establish what media they prefer. The filters look good but its all about selling fish keepers, products they don't need. For example, why would I buy a phosphate removing pad when I am adding potassium phosphate to the water column daily because my plants need it.

      There is a diagram that shows you a see through shot of the filter, the water enters the vertical pre-filter chamber on the outside of the foam media, goes through it and then downwards to the bottom of the media baskets then upwards to the motor that exhausts the filtered water back to the aquarium.
