Taylor. Excellent videos on the 6.4L. When I open my drain separator, I attach a long clear tube to the barb where the fuel drains from. And stick the other end in a container. With this set up, keep the stop cock open when you ratchet off the cover. As soon as you loosen the cover just enough to break the seal on the o-ring, you will get another flow of fuel coming out the line.
Spillage from the canister itself is inevitable being that they decided to lay it horizontally. But this will reduce that somewhat. Also stuff some rags under the canister when unscrewing.
    Keep up the good work.

Nice vid Taylor I just did this to my truck a couple thousand miles ago. It’s way cheaper to do it at home then go to ford and have them do it. Only down fall is you take a bath in diesel. Lol. I do a Oil change every 5000 and fuel filter every 10,000. Good vid. I like the idea of the water bottle I tried draining into a 5 gal bucket. Rip me

What i normally do when changing my filters is, I loosen the upper, move to the frame rail, change it out with new filter o-ring, put excess diesel fuel on the o-ring, install.
Move to the top, new filter/o-ring as well, excess fuel on the o-ring, before i install the new filter, i have someone turn the key on and let the fuel pump fill the upper filter housing with fuel just below the threads on the housing and then screw down the filter and torque it to spec. has worked for me this way and has never failed, nor made a mess.
Always rule of thumb on the powerstoke engines. USE Motorcraft filters for the oil and fuel, never cheap out on buying the other brands. The factory filters are designed for the application for the engine. That was a big no no using that wix filter on the fuel system or even on the oil system. I know for a fact that people have had issues with those aftermarket oil filters, mainly because they come with a pre-made cap attached to the oil filter and have seen them blow the cap off because it was not the correct thread pitch and diameter.
As long as you stay on your maintenance for these engines and do not use it for a race car type situation, this engine will last you for well over 400K miles.
Key thing here is Maintenance for any engine. Change your oil, fuel, & air filters and fluids and your vehicle will last you for a very long time.
Nice video Taylor, I have a 08 F250 w/ 6.4 as well and love my truck, but had kinda wish that i had gotten at least a F350 dually or even the F450, but my F250 does what i need it to do.

I'm not sure if the the experience I had is covered in the below comments, but my primary filter would not stop draining and was siphoning from the tank. I made sure the fuel tank cap was off for no pressurization, One other comment below mentioned loosening the secondary cap first (maybe this would have helped break the siphon if done soon enough), however I did find another RUclipsr who said if you have a full tank it may siphon like mine. I did have a full tank. In that case you just have to be prepared to change the filter with no delay and take a diesel bath.

After the deletes about 10k miles back PS the truck loves it. If you don't have $ large don't over tune it. Racing in these trucks will cost you large. My tuner is either set to stock or haul when I'm carrying or pulling the trailor. the truck ran so well after the deletes I had to put an after-market fresh air kit in. The stock box was too restrictive and would set off the change air filter senceor. I went with the S&B fresh air kit. Much better no she can breathe 😊. PS I'm getting a little too much black smoke after being at a stop. Is there a setting in the tuner I could maybe lower?

Curtis Magas my onboard screen shows 14.9 mpg average and 17 mpg on the highway. Unfortunately it does not seem to be accurate because when I calculate it out by hand it never gets better than about 12.5-13 mpg in town and 15 highway. I have 4.88:1 rear gears so the mileage will never be too good.

@@TaylorSmithCars I too, have a 4:88 geared F-450 2008 model. Completely stock, I usually get about 12mpg at 60mph on the highway. Towing heavy fifth wheel, returns 9-10mpg. Good video on the fuel filter change out. Just want to add, I open that drain on the lower filter once a month and drain off about a pint of fuel into a clean mason jar. Give the jar a swirl and look for water bubbles, trash. Good way to keep water build up in the filter housing. Every fill up, I use Power Service Diesel Kleen, silver bottle in summer, white bottle in winter. Hopefully helps protect the hpfp. Original owner, been a great truck. Oh, and keep an eye out for corrosion on the bed supports, well known area for corrosion. Enjoy your posts

I can say I increased the mileage by 5 miles per gallon. No more embarrassing regen. God that would stink. I do not believe that system could be better for the environment. A properly maintained tuned and at temp seems to run so clean. I working on introducing a little propane to the intake when at a stop and then off after taking off. I'm getting less black smoke but have lots of bugs. 😢

Where you get your fuel makes no difference. Let us take Valero for instance. They are branded but if Murphy has it cheaper at the hub, they buy Murphy gas. Mom and pop stores do the same thing. Trust me when I tell you your fuel may come from one location one day at your favorite store and the next day from a totally different refinery.
