"Guys,Sarah is gonna go out and pick up steak" 😂😂😂
😂
Just bought 6.4 2010 and learning about the motor could help with some of the up grade that you did so I will not have so much trouble with this truck was a former mech nothing about the small diesels good video thanks for your time
Delete all of the emissions bs and you’ll be much better off.
Changing the lower fuel filter is a little cleaner if you open the water valve and completely drain the pump before opening the cap. Diesel won’t spell everywhere.
Yeah I’ve done that, takes a lot longer
Well done! Hands down one of the best how to videos I have watched. Keep it up!!
Thank you!
Great job Steven I gonna do exactly what you did. Cuz I have the same Truck twin turbo 6.4 Super duty
By the way you used 36 km socket.👍
Thanks 👍
Nice to get detailed video instructions. One of the best I've seen so far.
Thanks
Where did you get the one way oil pan plug?
Thanks helped out alot i just got a 6.4 ps
I wish the Engineers that design this stuff had to work on it, then they wouldn't make it so difficult. Change fuel filters every other oil change. Have a Safe Day
Couldn’t agree more David! In reality the frame rail fuel filter isn’t that bad just a tight spot, having the long extension makes all the difference!
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching Guerry!
Hi Jake, new to the channel but I appreciate this kind of content. I have a 08 6.4 as well. I heard that you had to bleed the fuel system manually on the low pressure side of the system. How did you find out about the self purge system? Thanks
Hey thanks for watching, I just asked my mechanic buddy, cycle the key 6-7 times to let it purge and you’re good to go!
The air purge is the only reason I haven’t tried this myself. The fuel filters I mean. I also have the 08’ 6.4. Thanks for posting!
What about the truck? Just turn off while was driving
Do you have a part # for the oil plug thank you
I do not, I bought that so long ago I don’t even remember what brand it was!
Great video! I'm a "new" owner of a 2008 F350 with 6.4 powerstroke and since I don't know how it's been previously treated, wanting to change out air,oil and fuel filters. I've watched a few different videos and they usually open that yellow drain valve under the rail for a little bit before closing and then removing the fuel filter. Noticed you didn't. Any reason why? I would rather not open it if not needed. Also - how long did all that take you?
You certainly can open that valve if you want. That is the fuel water separator valve, if your water in fuel light goes on, that’s how you would drain it. Otherwise, all of that same fuel is going to drain out when you open up your fuel filter on the rail anyway and it usually takes a while to drain out of that little valve. That’s why I don’t bother opening it. I can usually do the oil and fuel stuff in about 30 to 45 minutes if I’m not filming it. I usually start by draining the oil since that takes the longest and do all the filters as it’s draining. The key is the long extension for the fuel filter in the frame rail. Without that it is a huge pain to get off.
@@DudeRanchDIY Thank you! I think I'm going to order the 24" extension to make things easier. Planning to do the work this weekend.
@@DudeRanchDIY Why didn't you put new oil in the oil filter cup before closing it?, it would help with priming the oil into the motor for the first startup after an oil change. FYI.
Didn't know trucks had 2 fuel filters, does it take long to burn off the fuel smell ?.
Not all trucks do, the dual fuel filters are common in the newer ford powerstrokes.
Not all do, but mine does! That second one on the frame rail is a bit tricky. The fuel smell on the truck is almost non existent, the fuel smell on my sweatshirt is a different story 😂
Yea for those smart engineers, making life so easy. Not quite as smart as putting the fuel pump in the gas tank but close.
😂😂 Maybe a bit of planned obsolescence??
I had a 2008 same color same motor I had 200,000 miles on it and it blew up and I had to get a new motor because they said those motors are throwaway
Hopefully I'll have some different luck! Since buying my commuter car and the International dump truck this Super Duty doesn't get worked nearly as much as it used to!
This is true. Navistar used a modified version of the MAXXforce that already had issues with the waterpump and used cheap parts on ghe 6.4l leading to a inevitable water pump leak which leads to the complete destruction of the engine, some never have issues some they last 50k and it happens some have 500k when it happens all depends.
I know the hate I’m going to get. Oh god I know. On my 2008 6.4 I do my oil every 4K and my fuel filters every 5K. May that damn thing last forever. (Laughing in fear with 98,000 miles and 3400 hrs on it).
Haha good for you!! I don’t really do anything serious with mine anymore but I’m around that 140k mark. Is yours deleted?
@@DudeRanchDIY no, still has all the factory dressings. Time bombs in other words. Short story I bought it in amazing condition at 68,000 for $27k in 2016. Black tan leather lariat with the 8’ bed and 6 speed. I literally drove it home 3 hours away, parked, left for work the next day and the hpfp shit the bed. Bought as is no warranty. 4 grand later and a cab off it has been perfect, and it works. I mean it really works for a living. That’s where the paranoia came in. School of hard knocks and a really hurt wallet.
I hear ya…I bought mine in 2016 with 40k from my parents neighbor. Loaded lariat he only used it to tow a 17’ wooden motor boat to Maine and back a few times a year. It came with a 5 year extended warranty which I extended another 3 through Ford and now have it fully covered under a third party warranty. I immediately deleted, chipped, etc for longevity, (luckily my dealer was cool) only major issues I’ve had were with the radiators leaking out of the drivers side rubber seal. Replaced 2 times fully covered under warranty! Runs very strong and worked very hard for years, now that I have the International hook lift truck the 6.4 gets a much deserved break!
Sitting at 220k abt to change both mine
@2 LAPS DOWN PODCAST you bet she is, I love her so much I just gave it a new bed, rocker panels both sides and can corners. The salt will come again, but damn if I didn’t try. Oh yeah, and I added 2019 6.7 Lariat to my personal fleet. I’m making a big ‘ol pile of Ferds in the driveway. I may need to join a program.
What a pece a waste of metal not good engine lots of problems with this fords I won't want one of this not even for free
Nice Work Jake, you should download "Vehicle Maintenance Tracker" on the app store. You can track all of the work you do on all your machines and vehicles. I use it to track everything on every piece of equipment I own, works really well, and is very user friendly.
Figures they've made an app for that! I'll check it out, thanks!
