- A retest of the prior range test video between the TBS Tango 2 Pro Crossfire system and the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2...
A number of you rightfully pointed out that the DJI O3 system does not go into full power unless the quad is armed (regardless of whether the low power mode is off or not).

Retest of the range test based on your comments. See the original test first here: ruclips.net/video/jLR4r93KLJg/видео.html
The original test and the retest were both done in Manual transmission mode. Some of you asked me to retest again using the Auto mode and here are my findings:
Test 2 - Goggles Left in Garage (2:33)
No difference here in auto mode, the remote controller 2 still disconnected as soon as I got about 10 meters away from the quad and did not re-connect until I got back into the garage
Test 3 - DJI Controller 2 Active Control Link (3:06)
I got more range in manual mode before the controller lost connection and the air unit went into low power mode (which then disconnects the video link as well). In manual mode I got 105m of range whereas in auto mode I got 135m. Both the remote and goggle video disconnected at the same time and the remote would not reconnect until I turned around and started to head back (yes I waited a good 20-30 seconds for the remote to reconnect and nothing!). The difference here was that I was able to re-arm the quad as soon as the remote reconnected once I started heading back even though the video was black. Once I rearmed, the air unit went into full power mode and the image came back. This shows me that we are better off using auto mode with the DJI remote controller 2.
thanks for your thorough testing, you’re killing it with the O3 air unit support videos 🔥 🔥 🔥
Just I did it a test at home, clossing doors and walk arround. Dji controller 2 with O3 haven't the same efficiency than the Tango 2 pro with TBS Crossfire, a big diference when is armed and dissarm. great video!
Ya, make sure you use the latest firmware as there have been some improvements in the DJI Controller 2 behaviour since the firming of this video.
The Tango 2 V3 doesn't have 1W internal Crossfire TX power? It says on their site since 2020 they come with the V3 board which is capable of 1W power.
Yes, the newer motherboard revisions have a 1W module.
lol thank you i didnt even know mine was capable!@@Mangorille
Nice comparison, seams it's very nice to have something like ELRS or Crossfire that can outrange the O3 Air Unit. I would not feel comfortable losing Rx same time as Video. Thanks for your work to make this visible 🙌
Thanks for clearing up the behavior. I wouldn't fly anything that forces a disarm when loosing video. Often you only loose for split second and can regain feed.
I think that’s what those RXLOSS warnings are but once you lose feed you can’t get it again as the air unit goes into low power mode.
You've definitely found something here regarding the low power mode and rx loss
I hear the latest firmware that released yesterday has changed the behaviour and it’s supposedly more aligned with the remote controller 1 now. I haven’t had a chance to verify.
Interesting.
thank you for this
I knew the Goggles V2 and the original air unit/vista disconnected simultaneously, but I thought that was because they were joined at the hip with both 5.8.
I was thinking that the new RC 2 at 2.4 and the Tx at 5.8 that the combination would not have the same issue, but it appears it does.
So, I'm assuming you will go with TBS for the radio link in the interest of salvaging the flight should you lose Tx.
True?
Welcome! I think it has an issue somewhere (failing over to 2.4 ghz maybe?), something is definitely wrong especially with the test #2 where the goggles were left in the garage and the RC link failed within 10 meters. I don't fly too far away from myself so both control links would work but I'm really struggling with other elements of the FPV Controller 2. Maybe I'll make another video. :)
Wow great test! The Goggles 2 and DJi Remote 2 link to each other. Great find!
Ya was shocked to see that behavior. It does the same in both manual and auto mode. Thanks to the person who asked me to test that in the comments!
Interesting! thanks You!
Thanks for watching! Happy flying.
4:36 not really true, you don't need super high Mbps value to still have good RC link. RC link have like thousands times less data (basically AUX & stick positions as numbers) than HD video link (Mbit/s vs Kbit/s). That could be the reason why HD shows 2 bars while RC is still strong 4 bars.
UPDATE sorry I watched few seconds more of the video, you are right - RX failsafe happen also on strong 4 bars ;) This is weird!
Ya it doesn’t make any sense. My only thought here is that it’s all done through the goggles and the rc link is measuring something convoluted.
Has this been fixed? With the recent update, mads tech video says it has been fixed? That it will remain connected of video is lost. Plz let me know
I don’t have this remote anymore so can’t verify but I heard that a firmware update after I made this video resolved the issue.
You should defo try this with the cadex vista or the original air unit.
Good idea! I still have all my V1 gear so that would be an awesome comparison. I didn’t have any problems with the V1 and would be good to see how it actually performs under the same tests!!
Please do a retest with goggles in AUTO mode.. As it used 2.4ghz link for controller and video packet Retransmit signal from goggles 2 in Auto mode. That's why most range in auto mode.. 🙏🙏
Was this test in 5.8 manual? I know that manual does lock it into 5.8 for some reason (doesn’t do that in the AVATA). Does auto switch between 5.8 and 2.4?
Thanks for the suggestion. Will do a quick test and report back. If Auto drastically changes the behavior, I'll post a video on it.
Retested in auto mode and my findings added to the pinned comment on this video.
iv been in fpv for 8 years and this is how i look at rc controllers now days. if you want to go dji controllers just know what you get is what you get i buy the dji $300 black remote when i first got my vista and now 2 years latter its obsolete and no longer works with any dji stuff dji is throw away controllers with 2-4 years of life when the new dji fpv v3 remote comes out your new $200 fpv remote will no longer work if you want to update your air units. now my old Taranis 8 years latter it will still work the same as it did when i first got it and it will keep working for years to come. the good part about not buying DJI is that you can buy a cheep rc controller if you want and as you get better in fpv you can buy upgrades for your rc remote and make it 100% better. DJI has shit gimbles as a new fpv person you will like the dji remotes after you learn to fly a real drone and not the dji toy drones you will soon wish you could upgrade your gimbles. DJI is basic entry lvl rc controller at a advanced lvl price point. for all you new fpv people out there. at $200 price point just buy yourself a good rc controller radiomaster has a beautiful new boxer remote for $99 starting and you can get elrs for $130 and this remote will last you years
Agree! Video coming tomorrow on why I'm returning the DJI remote.
nobody tells you that you should upgrade :) ahaha,
Very very interesting….. I can fly my O3 quad without the goggles on … line of site but still it has a control link without the goggles.
Me too, I have done line of sight without the goggles but I think when you are far away, the controller loses signal first and the air unit goes into low power mode so then it cannot "fail over to a better link" (my guess here) and reconnect.
You can fly your o3 quad without the goggles powered on and with a dji fpv remote controller 2? I'm waiting on batteries for mine and wanted to test fly by line of sight and wondered if I would need to have the goggles with me...
@@macksenduro9796 Yes you can but only after everything has been activated.
Hello please can you tell me how do you disconnect crossfire on your drone to use with the dji controller 2? Because i'm buying a geprc mark5 o3 crossfire version but plan to use it with the remote controller 2. Thanks a lot.
You'll need to see how that drone is wired up from the factory. It usually will take attaching two additional wires if it was not done already and then some betaflight configuration. Check this video out: ruclips.net/video/tYomxAbQ7Vs/видео.html
Is It common for the tango 2 to be completely out of stock everywhere with no date or more coming
They are definitely in demand. Currently in stock at my local hobby shop in Canada called Rotorgeeks
How did you get the rc link to work with the dji goggles. I have the v2 is that a new thing with the goggles 2?
Not fully following your question. Are you asking how I got the DJI FPV Controller 2 to work?
What is the point to have longer rx link when you loose video, you can't fly without video.
Also don't put your failsafe to disarm, just drop or return to home. Certainly now we've learned it goes into low power when disarmed.
Nice work!
I agree to a certain point and I mentioned that in the video... Once you start to see blocky / choppy video, you're going to turn around anyway. The challenge with the FPV Remote Controller 2 at the time of recording is how it disconnects and how it interacts with the goggles (seems to have been fixed with the new firmware though). One benefit of a stronger radio think is that if you lose video, you can punch out and try to get video back by having the quad gain altitude. Also, the air unit will not go into low power mode because it still sees that the quad is armed.
@@MangorilleHey! One question pls… Suppose that I’m with Dji O3 and remote controller 2… If suddenly I loss video and Rx but i’ve set to return to home in case of failsafe… It should happen nothing wrong isn’it? I’ve set it to gain 50m altitude and later come back… in that time transition, i could get back signal and take the control of the drone isn’t it?
@@Gere_FPV It would come back home and you'd regain video once the signal is good enough. Now I understand that the latest firmware for the Remote 2 has made it work a bit more like the Remote 1 so it shouldn't lose signal as easily or quickly like it was shown in this video.
Is this behavior still present? I thought about getting the newer DJI Controller, but might just stick with my Tango 2 instead if the video link still causes RC link loss.
I can't independently verify as I don't have this remote anymore but I've heard that this behavior has been fixed since through a firmware update.
So as of now, whats the safest option? Tango 2 or remote controller 2? Wich of them will not use rc link if hd link fails? Thanks
@@lopesdev I still believe the best option is a separate control link for future proofing. I use ELRS right now. I made a video about this a while back, I hear that the FPV Controller 2 has gotten better but I moved away from it after my experience. ruclips.net/video/QRpH3c9G-Y4/видео.html
@@Mangorille thanks mate
@@lopesdev No problem, happy flying
Can you testet Range test with FCC mode on O3 Air Unit?
This test was with the O3 Air Unit and FCC.
Why can't we see how far you are instead of the garage
You're looking at the statistics of the signal
My Tango2 has failsafed twice on me and i still had goggle video,so it makes me nervous
Check Immortal-T antenna in the drone. Mine was a bit crushed by the frame (the wire deep in the drone) and that most likely caused one fatal failsafe into the rocks :/ Since I replaced the antenna and also re-soldered all the wires between nano RX and FC everything works fine. I also changed the UART to different one.
Also make sure you are in the correct region and are using the correct frequency. If you don’t it could conflict with the cell network.
crossfire comes configured for dynamic power mode, remove that!
@@rafaelfontes858 Running crossfire at full power is IMHO waste of transmitter battery. Correctly working system should work fine on dynamic power. If it's not the care there is definetly some hardware issue
@@rafaelfontes858 I tried both, I know there were issues with dynamic power in the past but looks like that's been resolved on later firmwares. I like the dynamic power especially for smaller quads, why waste those mahs ;)
FRsky wins 😜
:) or crossfire or elrs
