Idk if you didn't used on purpose but the rangefinder is a very important tool for top tier, you need to place shots very carefully to kill in the first shot using apfsds
It was on purpose. I was testing the ballistics simulation. The real life DM33 Sabot has a flat trajectory out to 1000m roughly. The DM23 in the game isn't too far off from that either. So for any targets closer than that, it should more or less hit where you aim. But that's something War Thunder might not have gotten right.

The Leopard 2's in game used to have the historical smoke launcher salvo size you described, 4 grenades per shot but recently the majority of smoke grenades on tanks were changed to launch 2 at a time instead
I fully understand what this guy went through with War Thunder. I was a crew member on M-60A3, M-1 , and M-1A1 series MBTs. It does not translate very well into the game. The simulators used by the military are more functional and realistic. I was trained to hunt in 3X(magnification) and kill in 10X (magnification) using thermals. Also, with him not using the LRF to determine range is very understandable with the flat trajectory of the APFSDS round. We trained for that also at longer distances.

Three pieces of advice: make use of your laser rangefinder, absolute game changer when you realize how powerful it can be. There is an option in the settings to put the scope from the gun instead of the gunners sight position, meaning your shots will be much more accurate. And make more use of thermals, the leo gets pretty decent thermals for it's battle rating. Overall, keep up the good work and have fun
@@PanzerPaw is the leopard really that slow in terms of turret rotation and overall mobility in real life, because i`ve seen leopards in yt videos manouvering much faster than those in game?
Especially since most sim battles at lower BR are really just “oh we’ve both seen each other… do we risk waiting for team mate confirmation via RF or just hope it isn’t blue on blue.” Still a sim enjoyer every chance o get though, even if I die to blue more than anything.

Also, repair the tank. It gives you the press F to repair vehicle prompt, so repair it.
To ansser the question why he "sucks" despite having irl experience: Warthunder is a completely different environment to irl. Tanks are operated differently. Everything is faster, the maps are very tight and combat very short range. Try a decent sim like SB or GHPC or Ground forced for IL2 and you see the difference. How a heavy MG can ruin your massive tank by shooting out your optics, how HE shells can absolutely wrech your tank by blowing up either your tank as a whole or, everythibg that makes you combat effective. Fun fact, for the US in the second gulf war, the biggest threat to the armoured formationd was the Shilka. Not the T-72s.
I appreciate the support :D But also to add on to your points. I think the biggest difference by far between games and IRL is self-preservation. People in games (generally) will do complete irrational and unexpected things because it's a game, after all, and there's little to no consequences. And that's something you can't really train for either.

From what I gathered about tank combat their usually step type rules. Don't get spotted, if spotted, keep moving, can't & getting hit? Angle your armour towards the threat & so on. Sitting still for too long in a tank is asking for trouble, real life & video games. Worse is retreating with your butt showing where armour on alot of tanks is thinnest, you don't want to expose that. Ever. You just never know if someone is waiting patiencely to line up that shot. Examples like that are in Ukrainian-Russian war now, Russians having no idea how to operate their own assets well that I seen video gamers play better.

3:04 you hit the buildings because you have your sight set to the side of the cannon. Try in settings to set it so your camera is at the end of your barrel so you have true aim shots. your shots are going to be offset to the left a little bit because of this as im sure you know already

@@PanzerPaw most people still take 20 because as you said you do run out of ammo every now and then if you only take 16. 20 seems to balance out the risk/reward, you use 4 of the hull rounds fast enough for that rack to be empty after the first engagement or 2
BT-5 is viable in all tiers. My super Pershing got ammo racked by a BT at point blank but sadly for him I took a full ammo rack like an idiot and he was killed by the ammo explosion

I want to see a real tank crew play simulator where each person controls each part of the tank they control idk how it would work but it would be cool I think
Surviving an ammo cookoff in war thunder is difficult even though there's blowout panels. I've only survived once, and yeah, the fire's the best camo. People think you're a tank that's been dead for a minute, with its ammo still cooking off Which is why you usually look for open hatches
I've seen people use the corpse camo method, where you lore your enemies, with the corpse of past gameplay vehicles and kill them or use burning wrecks as camo,
i recommend changing one of your settings if someone hasnt already recommended it. Which is a ground vehicle option. "Use gunner sight", uncheck that, and then in Realistic battle's, the ones you did in here, the scope is accurate, instead of having to keep into account a 800m convergence distance
@@PanzerPaw it depends, the high tier ones (mostly MBTs) have a pretty fast queue times. But they are not always available mid and top tier ones are cycled in availability in sim battle selector

Use your Bino's more often, you are the commander after all :3
I want to see a War thunder player tries tank Duell in real-life video
I've seen people use the corpse camo method, where you lore your enemies, with the corpse of past gameplay vehicles and kill them or use burning wrecks as camo,
i recommend changing one of your settings if someone hasnt already recommended it. Which is a ground vehicle option. "Use gunner sight", uncheck that, and then in Realistic battle's, the ones you did in here, the scope is accurate, instead of having to keep into account a 800m convergence distance
I love his nice attitude and funniness even though he is a tank commander
The bmp 2m is so broken, 4 fire on the go missiles with up to 1200mm of pen
Hi!
i think you would love Warthunders simulator mode more than RB!
since i see you're using the alternative gunsight
I thought about trying that actually. But I thought Sim battles didn't really have anyone playing?
@@PanzerPaw only limited tanks can participate in sb (depends on time), and yes not many people play it so queue time sucks
@@PanzerPaw it depends, the high tier ones (mostly MBTs) have a pretty fast queue times. But they are not always available mid and top tier ones are cycled in availability in sim battle selector
Very fun video and also you're not bad by any means!
Oh boy I hope you didn't accidentally spill sekrit documents that can get you into court here
alot of why you were having a hard time is because you are using a setting which fires from the gunner perspective, but the game is optimised for using the "gun barrel camera" for Realistic Battles, thats why SIM style sights are better when using the gunner sight perspective you used :)
