- Wonderful news for the 2001 Planet of the Apes reboot. There's a new Planet of the Apes movie called Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and it's not linked to that movie at all. But before reviewing that we talk the passing of Roger Corman, the first look at James Gunn's Superman, the MCU slowing down, Galactus casting for The Fantastic Four, Dwayne Johnson as Apocalypse, the first look at Batman: Caped Crusader, a trailer for Twisters and more Lord of the Rings. Little known fact, the motion capture techniques developed for the Planet of the Apes franchise were affectionately dubbed “Blue Suit” (a bit of a play on blue screen) by the crew. However, since this film contains a lot of new, crucial ape characters, they put out a casting call for more mo-cap actors to work on it in the absence of Andy Serkis. The casting call was code named Blue Harvest, which was coincidentally also the working title for original Star Wars.

Things working against the Fall Guy movie: 1) No one remembers the show. 2) “Fall Guy” with Ryan Gosling sounds an awful lot like “Free Guy” with Ryan Reynolds. 🤣

I like to save the new episode for work Tuesday night but I simply can’t wait
I am surprised how decisive this new apes film is. I feel like it’s caused by this being a more straight forward action type film while the others had more “prestige” style writing. Regardless I love all these films and this franchise is a miracle in it’s consistency

I think part of the issue with why the last couple movies haven't done super hot opening weekend is that if someone has already gone out to see Dune Part Two, Civil War, and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare they'll be looking for a different activity to entertain them.
There are a lot of really good movies coming out this year, like one every 2-3 weeks. I love movies and I want to watch all of them, but it's just hard to keep up with

@domhuckle On the one hand, I absolutely love that my biggest complaint about movies this year is that there are too many that I want to see, but on the other hand it's tough knowing that next year will probably be light on really good movies, and we could have just spaced these out

So excited for the future Apes movies, thoroughly enjoyed Kingdom, especially the ending. Cannot wait for more conflict between apes and humans lol
Loved how expressive Noa was in the movie. His eyes totally stole many scenes in the movie.
Also wondering if they they'll reintroduce Mae again in the future movies considering the previous trilogy had different human characters in each of em.
I feel like Noa's story had a conclusion in this movie so I wonder if Mae's going to be the main character for the next few movies

I felt like the reason Mae wasn't too happy at the end was because she felt bad at least in part because of Noa's speech to her at the end about how the apes are there and deserve to live too. If I were to take a guess I would say this next set of movies will be about her with different apes characters like the trilogy before was about Caesar with different human characters

I think there was a reboot of Goodnight Sweetheart a few years ago but they only made one episode. It was set in the 1960s and he finds a new portal that opens up to the present day.
Edit: The full episode is actually up on YT and it's called "Goodnight Sweetheart Many Happy Returns"

What I didn’t understand about the final sequence of kingdom of the planet of the apes, was how did that whole bunker facility flood? Presumably it would just flood up to sea level, and the seawall they exploded showed the water was maybe 5 feet above the floor of the bunker? I know the water didn’t go all the way to the top where they eventually escaped from, but it seemed like it went up several floors.
Incredible to think that the voice of Galactus is also the voice of Salvage Hunters.

I would love to see movies set in a Planet of the Apes style universe (either literally thr same as this or just in concept) set in other places. Say, places where you have native primates other than humans (humans were the only primates in the US and Canada for millions of years afaik). Places where man and other apes have lived closer together even before the virus. Sure, some people would be assholes about it, but the diversity of interactions are bound to be higher in any verisimilar scenario.
Maybe we finally get friendly gorillas in places where they were not just zoo and lab animals, but were already free and living in their own communities, but smarter now, and were also somewhat already familiar with humans, some even having positive experiences or heard of positive experiences too. If anything, Anglo America is the most boring place for this premise, the original being practically noble savage tropes but with sci-fi elements and native americansreolaced by non human apes kinda always been a bit of ykes with really good lipstick that make you just look the other way, but it is there if you just do look at it).

i wanna see this story come full circle where the apes reach the level of humans and they start studying degenerative brain diseases and start a new pandemic trying to cure it. what animal would they use for tests? planet of the cats? planet of the cows? where are the other animals in this movie? i only see apes, humans, and horses.
say what you will about Chris Pine but he was exceptional in Hell or High Water. everyone was, Ben Foster stole more scenes, but Pine did a flawless job in an amazing movie.

The humans are right, the monkeys don't deserve freedom!!! I love the Planet of the Apes franchise, this new interpretation of the series is very reminiscent of the Dune novels in terms of story structure and i love it

Can you imagine the carnage that could have been unleashed in areas of the world other than America..?!
Either the humans wiped out all apes everywhere before they could even be exposed to the virus and become smart, or somehow (I can't imagine how) the apes get the virus, realize they're smart, and just disappear into the jungle and wait for the humans to die...
"Big for real," can sum up a lot of my worries for the MCU going forward. It takes CGI to make them big and I think one of the reason Kingpin is camera angle big and not actually big was because Disney was trying to skimp and a guy in a suit is way cheaper then an CGI guy in a suit.

Only problem with the Supes suit is how loose fitting it seems. The design, which i hated at first, has grown on me after seeing some fanart of it cleaned up and in action. Gunn really pooled years and years of history into that suit and you can see why it was called Legacy at first.

The Hobbit films are super good and under-appreciated. Also HUGELY successful. All three effectively made $1 bil each.
As a huge fan of LOTR everything, no they weren't good. There were great parts but the 2nd and 3rd movies were just drawn out and not good

Koba is like Shane from The Walking Dead. They both betrayed the main protagonist due to their more hardcore views however now viewers see them as being much more useful when realising how their methods suited the harsh worlds that the character find themselves in so naturally want them back… Also they both come back in hallucinations.
Also they'd lead to the destruction of their group and possible civilisation due to being overly aggressive and not long term thinkers

You guys won't agree with this one, but your discussion about critics targeting specific movies to use as whipping boys for bigger frustrations they have with the industry or certain companies/actors/etc, applies to Indy 5. That was a movie that was refused a fair chance by a critics community that wanted to punish Disney last year.
