The fact that (from what the Weekly Planet boys report) the whole "bizarrely cheap, weird, washed-up celeb" angle came from Weathers himself is what makes it truly magical to me. When the man stopped an episode dead in its tracks to rhapsodize about Burger King's free drink refills policy I WEPT
The best part of that bit is Tobias responding with "I think I want a refund", and Carl giving him a tense staredown with overly dramatic suspense music playing in the background.
In the end scene on the boat when they're kissing and it cuts to John Cena and Henry Cavill, they missed a perfect opportunity to have them still kissing 😂
Your opening theme has the same evolution of every opening theme to a sitcom where it exists, get changed a little bit, and then truncated down to a fraction of the original.
I really enjoyed Argyle. I thought it was really fun. even though the story was a bit messy, I enjoyed each of the twists and how the actors played off each other
I loved the part near the end where you answered and gave personal experiences of some simple questions about life in Australia. You should do that again someday.
I get that people are upset with the Arhkamverse canon, but every story beat in Arkham Knight presses the point *so* hard that this is Batman's last stand and that it ends his legend. Trying to claim that actually he met Superman right after and had wholesome Justice League adventures for years (and that in-universe they built tacky theme parks to commemorate the events of the games even though those incidents racked up enormous numbers of innocent casualties) gives such incredible whiplash that it's impossible for my brain to reconcile that they're meant to be the same universe, so it just doesn't. It's like the way that the Schumacher movies have a kind of 'soft' canon with the Burton movies - I understand what is being said to me but they will never feel like they are the same story.
that outro of what could possibly be the new intro bloody slaps, boys! head started nodding uncontrollably soon as it started, thought it'll fall off if it was any longer -- good on ya!
God can you imagine how horrifying it must have been for the Madame Web actors to spend all this time thinking they are making a popular Superhero movie only to slowly realize that they are the next target for "Morbin Time" memes.
Wait wait! Wait!... What about just having the instrumental version of the song play up until right at the point where you say the weekly planet? Then you get the whole song and it's catchy and you still say the weekly planet and we still get to rock out
Oh NVM that happens at the end! Very cool. Just put that at the start but with the real vocal take! 🤘🤘🤘 (not that that new vocal take didn't make me bust out laughing)
True story, I met Ariana Debose on her first film where she was the lead, "Seaside", based and shot in Oregon, Seaside/Portland. I was the Assistant Director. She's super friendly.
Theory: Carl Weather's one-armed character from Predator is the same one-armed character as Chubbs from Happy Gilmore. He somehow survived the Predator attack, changed his name and became a Country Club golf pro? I like that narrative and think the world is a richer place having Happy Gilmore be canon in the Predator universe.
I don't think that game tarnishes Conroys legacy. The actual characters and performances in Suicide Squad aren't the problem with that game. By all accounts, it's a great cast who does the best with what they were given.
I like the shortened intro, i suspect they did it for same reason comic poo cut their intro theme, shows better video rentention the quicker you get to talking but it could be for other completely different reasons. I've not even heard of Argylle. Sad about Carl Weathers. Action Jackson himself. Lets get more coffee ☕️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Imagine your best friends didn’t like you or know who you were. There, that’s my review. Doesn’t count, I know. Also that song at the end fucking goes hard. I’m sad about the lyrics, but the guitars and synths are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
45:09 I love the joke in American dad where Francine tags along on a mission and she walks into the casino in a long dress and strikes a pose and Stan roles up on a scooter with a mullet and a little air tube in his nostrils and says “ people don’t dress like that in Atlantic city” 😂 they missed that opportunity here
Ben and Collings and Laurence!!!! PLEASE edit together a video of the Madame Webb portion of this podcast! There's practically an unlimited well of interview footage and MCU footage and movies that Dakota Johnson's parents were in. Not to mention great audio from the boys here! I really think it could do huge huge numbers on the Mr Sunday movies channel! Like whole new crop of fans and lifetime listeners and break a million and all that stuff. Please please please!!
The original "Mercenaries" game was one of my favorites as a kid.. it was the ultimate open world sandbox that let you call in airdrops of all of Americas best weaponry to do childish shit with. I loved it lol.
I feel like Amazon have been killing it recently with their "funny thriller" productions recently. Mr & Mrs Smith was one of the best things I've seen in a while, even if it isn't an original IP; incredible chemistry between the two leads, snappy dialogue that felt remarkably real, despite the somewhat silly premise, lots of fun appearances by great actors in smaller roles, great locations and fantastic cinematography. Good stuff. I also really enjoyed Role Play, though it wasn't on the same level quality-wise.
RIP Carl Weathers - a long & eclectic career! Matthew Vaughan's been in a bit of a rut post the first Kingsman movie, what happened?! Absolutely no way it's coming close to simply breaking even on its reported $200m cost in its theatrical run! Until recently, Apple were more responsible with spending MUCH less e.g. $35m on CODA that won 3 Oscars in 2021 & got record viewership on Apple TV+. Some (most) directors just seem to work better when constrained by a smaller budget like Vaughan's Layer Cake ($6.5m budget) as compared to Argylle's $200m! Leave The World Behind (Julia Roberts & Mahershala Ali) is now the 8th most watched movie in Netflix history & could rise as high as #5!
Celebrity directors with carte blanche and infinite budgets are the worst thing to happen to film making. Look at James Cameron, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, Guy Ritchie, Zach Snyder. Awful, bloated, CGI-ridden, dumb, longwinded, lazy movies that are basically just masturbation exercises by the directors and unintentionally showing off how poor they are at either writing or directing or editing (or all). Get out of here with these 3+ hour movies that have nothing to say.
Although it's been nearly over a year now and I am still mourning the loose of the butthole theme song, I have got to admit the new one at the end of this episode is pretty great!!! Hope it makes the transition to the fulltime opener
I cannot stand this Argylle slander. Dislike. Unsub. Report. But seriously tho, I genuinely feel like I saw a different movie to everyone else on the planet, I loved this one
The suicide squad came is actually quite good, to me of course. The base game does not feel like a live service looter shooter at all. It’s very much a well thought out single/multi player experience. Give it a try if you want or wait for it to be on sale
20:13 "Look, I think also- let's say- again, I haven't even played this, maybe I would love it, I definitely wouldn't and I'm never gonna play it, cause I don't encourage this kind of SHIT!" - The mind of Mr. Sunday
I was doing okay until the horrible dance/kill scene in the hallway with the super fake looking colored smoke. My bar was pretty low because I was already expecting an unrealistic action movie but that one scene was just too discordant and weird for me. All of the dance stuff was weird. I don't normally have a problem with Sam Rockwell dancing but they made dancing such a huge part of the story. It was weird.
Why is Argylle basically the Amazon show Citadel that nobody watched? Plots sound incredibly similar right down to opening with train action sequences.
I like the new intro. I think I'd personally like it slightly better without the count of 4, which feels a little too hardcore, but maybe it'll grow on me.
I enjoyed Argylle but it felt a bit like a diet coke version of what it should have been. If it had been allowed to break out of PG-13 rating it could have packed a bit more punch and made it easier to overlook some of its flaws. I'd probably watch it again.
Spoiler: In Argylle, why did they get Bryce Dallas Howard’s character to dress up as Dua Lipa’s character? I thought the point was she was trying to look like herself again, not LaGrange? Maybe I missed that explanation, I heard them say “you may as well look the part”. And as you said, it’d make more sense if Elly had worn a green velvet dress.
Argylle is your mom's new favorite movie. Thanks for suffering through exactly what I thought it woupd be. So glad i didn't dedicate the 2 hours for this.
I unironically love the new theme. Equal parts epic and punk rock. Though my butthole will miss being shot up with red-hot comic book movie news. 1:28:31
I really enjoy that Brute's new theme just sounds like James screaming "WEEKLY PLANET" like a maniac 😂 Why don't you just keep the theme the same, but change "up your butthole" to "in your ear holes". I'm pretty sure I've seen others mention that when James first mentioned changing the theme
If I may, I'd like to say that Monkey Man isn't so much John Wick as it is Ong Bak or The Protector. Secondly...it really is a damn shame that they didn't keep Sasha Call as Supergirl from The Flash. She was genuinely one of the best things in that film and her portrayal of the character was both unique and interesting. She also had a very good look. And it would have been cool to see that through a bit. Unfortunately she was a good character in a terrible film so she got washed away unceremoniously with the rest of the old DCEU. And I think that's a bit of a shame.
I kind of feel sorry for the Rocksteady developers, like the game doesn’t seem great but they’re receiving abuse online. There’s a moment in the game where deadshot jokes about green lantern being perceived as “one of the good ones” by white people, one of the writers of the game is being called racist for this as she’s white but it’s unlikely that she’s even the person who wrote this line, these games have so many writers but they’re choosing to assume a white person wrote that so they can call her racist
hIf you're getting into some classic Hong Kong martial arts movies, you gotta go with the classic Drunken Master, Jackie CHan's breakout role that solidified his signature slapstick action comedy vibe, also Snake in Eagle's Shadow has the single greatest death scene in cinema history (IYKYK). EDIT: Fans of Jamie from Street Fighter 6 might recognise Jamie's critical art in Drunken Master.
I really loved Argylle, I don’t really understand the complaints. I thought it was pretty obvious they were making fun of the classic spy movie twist for twist. I just thought it was a fun meta commentary on the genre and it was obvious that it wasn’t taking itself seriously. Like that ice skating on the oil scene was and looked ridiculous but I thought that was the point? You could blame it on bad marketing not getting that across but I dunno.
James' continued unnecessarily all consuming concern about the theme song that no one has a problem with but him is such a weird part of this whole show lol. James. To be clear. You are the only one who is taking this so seriously. We would be fine if it was just the old one. Just like, don't make it worse like the "defenders" version.
This back and forth with the existence of an intro song has me coming back every week
Remember when they totally ruined The Bill theme song? They should do that.
Will they? Won't they? It's a real nail biter
"Baby you got a stew" is still one of my favorite all-time jokes from a TV show.

I know right
I just finished it. I was screaming in disappointment that they didn't do that
Love sleeping to the sound of these two making sweet sweet podcasting
Same, its my nightly routine now
It takes a real twisted mind to have such a truncated opening theme song.
Are we in the Defenders of the Earth timeline or the Butthole timeline? It's a schroedinger's opening.
I don't like to brag but I'm so insane, off-the-rails, no-holds-barred and deranged that to me it was just a normal intro
We riot, new theme song✋🤨
The weekly riot the weekly riot
💯
I vote they change it to, "Anything can be good. The weekly planet, weekly planet."
LOVE the new song mates!
We must comment line by line the old theme song on every video from now on in riot!!! ✊🏾 WE RIDE AT MIDNIGHT (next video) !! Or this one lets goooooo

Carl Weathers’s character was easily my favourite guest on Arrested Development.
And baby you got a stew going.
@@clarkmichaels822 I... think I'd like my money back.
(Cue dramatic music sting and close up on Carl Weathers's non-expression)
Argyle was one of the silliest movies I have ever seen and I loved every second of it.

"our possums are cute, yours are... monstrous" Mason always manages a really dismissive quip that I find hilarious
I had to look up Australian possums after he said that. He's not wrong.
God can you imagine how horrifying it must have been for the Madame Web actors to spend all this time thinking they are making a popular Superhero movie only to slowly realize that they are the next target for "Morbin Time" memes.
Dakota must have been devastated when she realized she was doing cranberry juice commercials for the wrong reasons

I REALLY want them to talk about that “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” show. NOBODY is talking about that show. AT ALL. And I liked their lil mini review of it.
yea sad it kinda came and went. good show tho. hope it gets a season 2
The original "Mercenaries" game was one of my favorites as a kid.. it was the ultimate open world sandbox that let you call in airdrops of all of Americas best weaponry to do childish shit with. I loved it lol.

So excited for 28 days later

I was SO going you guys would talk about Carl Weathers Australian movie "Hurricane Smith"..! 🙏🏾😁
Supergoorl debuted in 1988, then was retconned by Peter David in 1996. We called her Matrix, Mae for short.
Cut the countdown from the new theme and it's kinda perfect
When will the The boy and the heron review be here? I thought it was supposed to be here last week?
Rip 🕊️
In Argyle…………the colorful gas fight was kind of cool but the oil ice skating made my eyes roll alll the way back into my brain.
The boys are going to be very surprised by Kermode's review.
New theme song is great, go with it.
Argyle but it's all pirates. Arggghhhhyle.
Argyle but it's all Vampires. Blaaahhhgyle.

NEW THEME SONG GOES INCREDIBLY HARD
Legit love the new almost punk theme song
Amaaayzing new intro, reminds me of one of your old ones. Not sure why though.
The one at the end is also good BTW.

Not sure about the new theme, it might take me a few years but I'm sure I will come around on it.
I enjoy the opinions of these two brothers
Two blokes talking movies, comic books too. On ya back boys I’m Indiana Jones!!!
James will be very upset to find that Kermode really enjoyed it
James and Maso, you need to give yourself permission to include the third option of 'Just A Movie'!
Spoiler:
In Argylle, why did they get Bryce Dallas Howard’s character to dress up as Dua Lipa’s character? I thought the point was she was trying to look like herself again, not LaGrange? I'm glad Cal Weathers joined Arrested Development so Tobias wasn't the only black character
i will now think of ice cream sandwich every time i think of carl weathers, rip
As someone who has actually played suicide squad, it's good, fun gameplay, relatively bugless, the justice league don't actually die
There is gonna be a Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earth's Part Three? FML!
I was really hoping that the MCU would grab Molly Alcock for a live action spider Gwen, but super girl is good too
Argylle is your mom's new favorite movie. Thanks for suffering through exactly what I thought it woupd be. So glad i didn't dedicate the 2 hours for this.
Love the new theme song
I like what I hear of the new theme song!
Please cover mr and mrs smith next week id love to know your opinions on the whole show
Romancing the Stone meets Long Kiss Goodnight.
I unironically love the new theme. Equal parts epic and punk rock. Though my butthole will miss being shot up with red-hot comic book movie news. 1:28:31

Why don't you just keep the theme the same, but change "up your butthole" to "in your ear holes". I'm pretty sure I've seen others mention that when James first mentioned changing the theme
It is fucking wild that sony really pulled the trick of making the actresses think they are in the mcu in order to get them into spumm
love that new theme
The new theme song is good!

THERES NOTHING HAPPENING WITH MY BUTTHOLE! NEW OLD THEME SONG!
Argylle sounds like a trilogy smashed into a single movie
Love the theme actually. Not sure on the 1234 though
He does say “post” in the American trailers. He says “mail”.
Doesn’t* ugh
You know you can edit comments right?
New theme does not disappoint 👌
Please do a review on Action Jackson in his honor
I really loved Argylle, I don’t really understand the complaints. I thought it was pretty obvious they were making fun of the classic spy movie twist for twist. It’s just one of those movies that is ridiculous because that’s what it is? I thought people would get that when we saw the whole Argylle grinding buildings with a car.
I just thought it was a fun meta commentary on the genre and it was obvious that it wasn’t taking itself seriously. Like that ice skating on the oil scene was and looked ridiculous but I thought that was the point? You could blame it on bad marketing not getting that across but I dunno.
as a brit i also dont want to fly my flag... so i can completely understand
I don’t care for the Toy Man hostage rescue missions but other than that I don’t mind Suicide Squad so far
Same.

man this comic book movie news isn’t even red hot, lol jk it’s red hot as always, love y’all!!

WE DID IT
#Mullet4Superman
Also theres no way Taylor Swift wrote argyle, theres no scene about her complaining about her ex's.
OoOoo, can you give us options for a new theme song lol
