11:17 I love that the ride is playing the beat from the outro breakdown. You don't notice it at full speed but It ties the two sections together. LOVE IT!
Once a week after school, we had a drum club, that no one else except me rarely attended. So most of the time, I was lucky to have free "private" drum lessons with the drummer that was exclusively coming to our school for this drum club xD. It lasted for more than half a year, before the Pandemic started and we had our first Lockdown ._. Now, at the end of last year, I bought my first E-Drum Kit, so now I can play at home :)
Now you aren’t wrong, but that’s just not the point of the video (I know, no shit Sherlock lmao) Hopefully we get a cover, but at the same time, he covered (as in he addressed it, not a drum cover) the song, so he might just be crossing it off the list, and I don’t blame him. Nor should you.
I don't even play drums. But this was by far the most informational, funny, incredibly fast, yet easy to follow break down of any song I have ever watched on RUclips. Timeline stamps (or chapters I think youtube calls it) would make it easier for your followers to come back to this video and find exactly where they left off.
Thank you Samus I've been trying to learn alot of different gojira songs but they're kinda hard and this made things alot easier explained than just playing by how I hear it
Hi Samus, I've been drumming for a lot of years and I have to say that this is an example of exactly how to do a song cover lesson correctly. It is sooo nice to see actual music script used along with explanations. You are obviously very good and it shows in your playing and knowledge of music. If I ever had to cover this song, I would use this video to learn it. Keep on making the great content. More like this....
Great job pointing out the unique kick in the first "chode riff". Those kinds of unique hits are often crucial to the feel of songs and too often overlooked.
Great lesson! It made me think of Angra’s Silence & Distance at 1:29 in. 3 bars of 4 and a bar of 3 but Ride Cymbal accents all over the place to mess with your inner placement of where 1 is.
I know how to read sheet music. Never knew how to read percussion music (symphony instrument taught). The way you taught this lesson and broke it down, I was easily able follow along! Great job of teaching here! This is amazing work! thank you!
If you dial down the speed to half speed playback on the original it really sounds like a six stroke roll with a heavy accent on the sixth sixteenth triplet. And also the second time this comes up (3:49 in original video), you can actually see that he starts the single stroke roll on the right and finishes on the left, so it's a six stroke roll (at least its looking like so :) ) Nice lesson and breakdown by the way :) also for me as a no more drummer ;)
This was great. I never learned how to read drum sheet music (I played the trombone in another life and could read the bass clef), but you made the whole drum part very accessible.
10:54 Another way to figure this part out is paying attention to Jean-Michel's bass, his rhythm in this part is EXACTLY the same as the drums. It made the PING PING part MUCH easier to decipher
I have messed around on drums but never played more than 10 minutes and a handful of times. You went so in depth I feel if I sat down I could actually learn this song. Great teacher and very insightful video - sex. Love to see a full playthrough too. Keep up the videos, yer?
Do you realize how good you are Samus? You literally cover all the greats. I want to challenge you. Can you do a Chris Turner cover from Oceans Ate Alaska? No one covers that guy. If you can do it (I have faith) it would be incredible.
Around 2011, my drummer friend was hating on my musical tastes as usual, he went on RUclips and showed me your channel. It was his response to me liking the drummer of Children of Bodom. I think it is great that you like them so much.
This is a great video, thanks ! I really think that he's playing quintuplets, you can hear it when you go half speed on youtube, all the notes are equals and if you count well you can hear 1 2 3 4 5 1
Thank you SO MUCH for this lesson! The hardest time for me is to hear what is actually played, learning this kind of song by notes makes it much easier
ORGASMATRON! Lookimg förward to the one hour version breakdown of your "The insight and the catharsis".. Love this more than anything, so much more respect.to drummers and they already get 90% of my metal cudos 😁😁
I am 2 months into my drumming journey and thought; hey this doesn't look too hard, lets try it! Oh how wrong I was xD Samus you make this stuff look too easy!
@@66Samus haha, thanks. I'm hoping i have an advantage with the fact that I've been listening to this song on repeat for like 2 hours. I love that chorus drum fill!
Key word is basic math. Like he said, if you can count to 16 (rhythmacially), it becomes easy to digest and learn the patterns. Self-taught beginner-beginner level here. The way he broke the patterns down it became super easy to follow along with his explanations!
Great video dude. I'm a guitarist and inspiring drummer, total amateur but trying. Totally enjoyed this. Wish I could play like that but in time maybe. Would love to see more lesson videos as well as full covers. Great content, well done dude. All the best for the future.
Wow! Good job. I liked how you broke it down. I'm a trumpet player, but watching you makes me think I could sit down and play this. * BTW: I would LOVE, LOVE to see you and Tommy Lee killing it on the drums.* Hint, Hint.
Excellent job man! I'm a guitarist who always wanted to play drums and I understand both music theory and math so I definitely appreciated the break down. Though the explanation of the "sex" part twisted my mind in knots lol... much easier to just kinda "get the feel" than to try and count it out
This is really good. I can't drum. Was told to play with knives instead of sticks! 😁 Still love watching drum videos, playthroughs, covers etc. But this is so clear to follow. Being able to explain things in plain english is a gift. Fair play to you for putting this up. Anybody who drums or enjoys drumming should be subbing your channel. Love your drumming on Dev's stuff in particular, as well as Andy Gillion's.
I really enjoyed this and would like to see more videos like this. I just packed my kit and will not be able to set it back up for almost a month so i got to use the ppad.
2 things. - That was one great explanation. I think every drummer should take a look for some doubts (if you're not an expert, at least I'm not) - Full cover!!! Ouhyeah!!
This was a great breakdown Samus! I would LOVE to get a video of Liquid Fire by Gojira. The verse riff paradiddle on the hands with the crazy bass drum pattern continues to haunt my dreams
I hope you guys enjoyed the drum lesson! ❤️

Give us a cover. Watching the whole thing uninterrupted is different, and better, than watching it chopped up, even if its the same thing

it's not "better". a cover is great sure and I want one, but if you want to learn it it's easier for me at least watching it chopped up and analyzed.

I appreciate your work Samus. It is reaally good to understand this complicated stuff. It helps us drummers
I love how you quit your job to do this full time, and then went ahead and fucking nailed it. Keep up the good work dude - wishing you good things
Incredibly helpful! I find it difficult to learn a song just by listening to it, but getting the song explained and seeing the score is great. Thx!

Mario is nuts, great breakdown on that opening groove!! ❤🤘
EDIT: the ride and snare groove is a real good breakdown!! Very well explained!
I don't play drums, but bass, and I loved this. Made me really appreciate the complexity of the piece. Thanks
I like this kind of drum lesson formula, it works well and it's definitely something you should consider doing more of in the future.
Just found this channel, immediately subscribed for the sense of humor, and also the great drumming, but mostly the jokes xD
