Hi Steve, good that you took the trouble to investigate that topic. How often are things not as simple as they appear to be! The other thing that strikes me is that I thought when the UK was in the EU, we had to apply the EU laws and rules. I always thought we did but was surprised on visits to some other countries that aspects did not appear universal such as Health and Safety! Thank you for the clear explanation.
where you see difference is long haul. Carribean, far east, middle east etc. I do find chain hotels more reliable in europe for their star ratings so the gran victoria, zafiro palace etc. But there is a difference compared to the lo g haul destinations. the standard is higher. Even Cyprus is a higher standard than Spain etc.
Thanks for that info Steve. Would be easier all round if every country used the same rating system. My view is if a hotel, in whichever country, is very expensive you should expect the very best. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for (hopefully) Cheers!
We are in our room at the 4-star Furgus Style Sollar Beach Hotel, having just had a really nice paella. Whatever the star rating, 4 star I think, this hotel is brilliant. We have a balcony overlooking the sea, it's perfect for exploring the town. The hotel is spotless, the staff is great, and the breakfast is unbelievable. Could not be happier. This is our sixth visit to Majorca and we have never had a bad hotel experience. However, Port de Soller is now our favourite place, with good restaurants, shops, good walking - flat, beautiful scenery and lots going on. We will be returning to the Furgus Soller Beach. Another week to go.
I have always known of the points system, although not the points allocations. However, the system only accounts for the facilities and not the quality. Badly maintained premises, swimming pools, low staffing, poor food, (or even if the chef is capable of cooking!) etc. are the types of things that most guests think should be taken into account when stars are allocated.
TOP! New Sub and bell )
Thank you
Great information steve thanks for that have a nice weekend 😊
Thank you

You would think so.

I quite agree.
Hi. Apparently more points are given if the hotel buys consumables and food locally instead of importing them (or most of them) from the mainland.
True
I wonder. how the point system works for the food. The hotels could have reasonable facilities, but poor food.
For food, it is not so much about the quality, but more about the range of things being offered.
@@SteveandAnitainMallorca That doesn't sound very good, it means the hotels could have a large range of terrible food
@@user-nj7ff5ci5p In theory, you ar right.
Interesting and informative, thank you Steve. More than five stars for your channel though 👍👏.
