Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. I am currently legally processing to become a Spanish citizen because I qualify through my Spanish ancestry. I love Spain.❤
I got some ancestry that are from Spain like my great grandmother but how do you find then specially have ancestry in France as well. I do want to live in Spain as a dual citizenship
We had a similar experience, but in france. We found the perfect house after looking for 2 years. It was under contract, financing contingent. So i pestered the estate agent every 2 weeks for almost 3 months. He finally emailed and said that it was back on the market. We had already gotten tickets for the following week to come and look at 3 other properties. Well, it was just as perfect in person, immediately put in a cash offer at list price. 3 months later it was ours. We originally bought it for a vacation/ future retirement home, but after that summer and 2 trips over the fall/winter, we decided to live here permanently. Almost 2 years here full time, and it's wonderful. We spent some time back in the us this summer and it was horrible. Traffic, bad food, uncivil people, etc. Life is just better in the Pyrenees. Ps, we've been to biarritz a couple of times, and s.s. looks just as nice. Looks like a great choice.
Hah! That is VERY similar. We also planned to rent our home (long-term renters) until retirement, but decided against it so we can come here more often and see how we could just move here now! Biarritz is very similar to SS. Congratulations to you!! :)
I was in SS this past September for just a day it was busy with the film festival but was absolutely perfect weather. One correction for the Schengen short stay visa that US citizens automatically get when entering the Schengen area is 90 days in a 180 day period, so 180 days per year, non-sequentially. I look forward to more videos. 👍🏻
Yes! I love ❤️ NZ I was living in Christchurch, I’m going to Spain 🇪🇸 next month God willing. I’m looking for a place to buy a house in Europe. Spain has a lot of taxes for everything 😅
I've only been to the north island and need to go back to NZ to explore the south! Spain does have a ton of taxes. You have to really love it here. Hmm, another video idea on some of the cons...🤔Good luck with your search!!
NZ for the win!! But yeah, we in Malaga, travel options are priority. SS great in August though - its way too hot down here on the costa. We looked at a summer condo option in SS but could not justify tying up capital. Maybe we need to take another look. If you dont mind sharing ballpark costs and value - also can you walk to everything or need a car & garage (we dont need car here in malaga).
I haven't been to Malaga yet but definitely want to check it out! The heat would get to me. SS is extremely walkable and a car is not necessary if you live in the city. I'm going to post another video in the next week or two that talks about the accessibility here, and will likely make a video about the cost of living here.Having said that, San Sebastian is one of the most expensive cities in Spain, but things like groceries are relatively (compared to the US) cheap.
@@DonostiDeli yes that was our experience also regarding costs - Malaga is the same very expensive for spain but its worth it :) Enjoy it up there, what a great place.
Thank you for sharing. I have young adults that want a "night life." Seems like young folks leave to Barcelona/Madrid for the young energy. In your opinion is SS for tourist and "older" locals?
Interesting getting a mortgage in Spain with no history, etc. would be interested to learn more about it. Could you please share the type of documentation for opening a bank account and get the NIE?
I'd rather not get too specific to avoid leading people astray, especially if requirements change in the future. But here's the official website with that info: www.exteriores.gob.es/Embajadas/telaviv/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/Consular/NIE.aspx
Pretty much everyone in Donostia speaks Spanish, so not knowing Euskara hasn’t been problematic. It’s common to throw in some basic words in Euskera to greet people or say thank you.
We moved to Nazaré, Portugal last year and have already been to San Sebastian twice this year - great city! Congrats to you.
Thank you! I definitely want to check out Nazare when the waves are gigantic.

@@Juanfernandez-sm8jl gracias! Todavía no he visitado Malaga, pero también parece que es una ciudad preciosa con mucha historia!
That area of Spain is fantastic, love our travels through that Country, enjoy your time there.
Thank you! :) And I agree.
I can’t think of a worst place to live in Spain , there are so many better places than San Sebastián , in Spain with out their political BS .
@@br2431 It's not for everyone.
Very informative. It certainly will help those interested in moving to anywhere in Spain.
I hope so!

Beautiful hair! Also lots of important information. Are you going to do a house tour so we can see your home in San Sebastián? Thank you!

How is it possible to like it if they tax everything you have, even money you made outside Spain? That seems to be unfair.
Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure!

The service provided by Santander is dreadful. Good to see your experience with Sabadell has been so positive 👍🏻
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Santander!
Thank you for sharing. I have young adults that want a "night life." Seems like young folks leave to Barcelona/Madrid for the young energy. In your opinion is SS for tourist and "older" locals?
I think that's a fair assessment. Night life does seem to be lacking here. It's a city better suited for families and older people.
Does the non-resident part also apply to those within the EU?
I'm not sure about that. I'd check with an attorney or CPA.
What about renting a place
I don’t have experience renting here 🤷🏽♀️

Curious what your experience is speaking Spanish but not Basque? Thanks!
Basque poeple are less narrow minded than Catalan. You can easily live in the spanish Basque country speaking only Castillan.
