    You know, I enjoy videos, but it's really aggravating when you don't show all of the steps. My question is this, I am working on a 2005 Freightliner Columbia w/ 14L 60 Series Detroit. I have gone through 4 sets of injectors. Now I am doing the job myself. How do you adjust an N3 fuel injector. I know how to get to the top lobe travel. How far do you turn in the plunger??? Do you keep turning it until the adjustment doesn't turn anymore, back off 3/4 of a turn, then adjust it to 40 in lbs and then tighten the lock or jam nut??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • @CarlosDieselElectric
      @CarlosDieselElectric  3 месяца назад

      @@jamesstafford9067 the adjustment screw on the injector you need to tighten until it bottoms out (turn to the right). DO NOT force it. Just until stop or you feel resistance then stop. You back off just 3/4 turn and that’s it.

      @@jamesstafford9067 you are correct. Just until the plunger stops. Do not force it beyond that. You got this, glad you are trying to do your own work. I like to see that.

    • @CarlosDieselElectric

      If you are just going to replace the gasket and the harness then you should be fine with just removing the engine brakes (Jake brakes). You don’t have to rotate the engine.
      You only have to rotate the engine if you are replacing an injector or adjusting valves. Other than that just remove, install, torque down the Jake brakes and install the harness.

    • @CarlosDieselElectric
      @CarlosDieselElectric  4 года назад +2

      David Tsang David Tsang no need to drain coolant. The injector cups will hold the coolant in its place. You can remove the valve or check valve on the series 60 to allow the fuel drain from the system. Then pull the injector and proceed with replacement or just pull the injector and replace it without. not too thorough...For us doing it for the first time- Do we have to set the injector height? Special tool for injector height? Do you have to do a full overhead? Or just torque things back down "As it was" ? You can really confuse beginners here without the important steps and cause uis interference issues and broken valves and pistons

    • @CarlosDieselElectric
      @CarlosDieselElectric  4 года назад +1

      Injector replacement can be done different ways. I have seen where mechanics just pull the bad injector out and then put everything back without adjusting the injector.
      The correct way, IMO, is to start at TDC and go from there.
      Or start at the injector that is bad. There is NO height injector tool UNLESS you are working on a 12.7L then you have to have one of 3 tools needed. The valve will dictate which tool to use. But I am assuming you have a 14L Detroit Series 60, so in this case NO tool is needed. You tighten the adjusting bolt until it bottoms the plunger out and gets hard to turn, and then you back it off counterclockwise 3/4 of a turn then lock the nut. Then put it all back together and torque it properly.
