I respect your opinion on this and I'm not necessarily disagreeing with u but speaking as someone who has struggled with addiction, when you get sober your whole world view changes, the way you view family, friends ,the way you see your place in the world ,and yes even politics.. I'm not saying Tom didn't create a character, but peoples views can change seemingly overnight. Also worth noting Tom doesn't just rap about politics and some of his best work in my opinion isn't political but he gained most of his fans thru his political songs.

I think Tom is genuine; there are quite a few people who proudly voted one way 2 years ago, and then a few months later were so embarrassed they couldn't even admit it. His BEST music was within the last 2 & half years (the cancer song and the Back to the Future song (I am terrible with titles obviously) among the most moving emotionally with Bad News and Scars being in my all-time favorites because they are profoundly deep. The last few months I feel Tom has been overly focused on the Billboards and Charts and the music has been mostly rants but that is just what is going on in the world. Daily rapid fire ambush. Its been a Blitzkrieg and it makes me feel his head must be constantly whirling rather than focusing on each individual piece of music. (They have begun to have a sameness.) It doesn't make him fake just because he DOES want to reap some success from his art; most of us want a clean home with bills paid and a decent car to drive. Anyone who works hard occasionally wants a nice steak and the respect of our peers. Some ideas are just too complex to smash into a 3 minute song and still make a coherent narrative with a catchy hook. I try to give each song a couple playthroughs before I decide.

Tom McDonald has been on drugs, drinking, addicted to pills. There have been other rappers, who was admitted to doing the same thing with Tom. He’s been clean a few years and he’s he definitely went a different direction with his music, but why would you make a persona based on failing in the past? Maybe after he woke up one day, and he was done with withdrawals, and he wasn’t hung over he finally saw the light, that what he had been doing wasn’t working and yes, he tried something different but it’s still Tom. I don’t see any other rappers posting videos of him and his sister and his parents packaging CDs Together, or a couple of times where he got caught out in front of a store or in the mall by a crazy fan and nova filmed the interaction, and they hugged and talk for a minute, and he gave him a autograph. He’s a chill guy. And even if everything that this guy said is true, and Tom, still in this, just for the money, and he doesn’t care about any of his fans, then, that makes him not different than any other artist out there, except he actually tells the truth about everything in his music exposing the world we live in! The reason I know that this guys video is bull crap it’s because of the things that Tom says, and if you just listen to his new song that came out Friday where he calls out everybody and government and everybody in the media that all they want is money, they could send the FBI after him or they could just take him out at his house and make it look like a robbery. For someone that hates the guy you certainly put a lot of effort into researching him. Its not impossible for someone to change their views in a short period of time either. Every artist evolves with more life experience. You may not have the same experiences that he does so you're not going to develop the same views or opinions. He's not targeting a specific political ideology either. He's talking to anyone who is tired of the bullshit and constant lies from our media and establishment. That's not a conservative issue, it's an American one. And I find it quite sad that he's able to find more pride in this country than a lot of Americans. I think it's laughable that you would put the effort into digging into years of his past just to find something to bitch about now. I used to hang with Tom back when he lived in Van and was rappin with OV. He was always a good dude to me...maybe a bit lost and misguided but still finding himself. Ive watched his trajectory, and I will say I didnt think he would hit the heights he has, and im happy for him. I will also say that Tom has definitely created somewhat of a persona, after all he was a wrestler and is an entertainer...im not sure id theres anything wrong with it. He also still strikes me as being quite genuine good dude and that never changed. I dunno...he found a way out through doin what he loves and is in a better place. Congrats i say

Anyone who makes money from entertainment is probably telling everyone some kind of lie about themselves. Everyone buys in to the character or gimmic of an entertainer which is why so many of them change their name. Part of Tom's gimmick is that he didn't change his name. In the end its just entertainment. I myself used to be a big fan of Toms a few years ago, mainly because his songs were so different than the mainstream hip hop out there. Granted there wasn't a lot of wordplay or complex bars but it was refreshing to hear at the time, something different. Nowadays it seems like Tom releases the same song said a different way almost every drop. It's not a coincidence that Ghost did so well for him. It was a change of pace even for himself. It's called change and growth my friend. I respect people's opinions that don't like him. For example, my son cannot stand his music. Not because he thinks he's fake, but it's just not the kind of music he's into and he thinks it's corny. I on the other hand actually like a lot of his music. He calls out the hypocrisy on both sides of the political aisle. He connects with his fans regularly, unlike so many other singers/rappers. If you were to pull up tweets or posts of mine from 5 years ago, you would see a completely different person than who I am today and I didn't do it for fame or attention. I just woke up and saw the world different especially after I found God. Everybody goes through phases and changes in their life. I think it's a little messed up that you're pulling up old songs and old tweets of his from when he was in his active drug, using/ drinking days and had different beliefs. He's been in recovery now for a while and his life is changed. And people can connect to his music that have the same beliefs and are fed up with the government in general. He talks about how they like to divide us so that we don't see what's really going on. I completely respect someone for not like in his music as I said before, but these are not good comebacks to prove any type of points. If you were to make a video about how you just don't like his music and he think he's corny or he sucks that would be your opinion and respected. But this video holds no weight because in the end people change and grow. Even my political views have changed drastically over the last 3 years and you're posting tweets that he made from years ago

I was born in '88 too. My views have changed more in the last 5 years than they ever have in my life. He’s been clean a few years and he’s he definitely went a different direction with his music, but why would you make a persona based on failing in the past? Maybe after he woke up one day, and he was done with withdrawals, and he wasn’t hung over he finally saw the light, that what he had been doing wasn’t working and yes, he tried something different but it’s still Tom. I don’t see any other rappers posting videos of him and his sister and his parents packaging CDs Together, or a couple of times where he got caught out in front of a store or in the mall by a crazy fan and nova filmed the interaction, and they hugged and talk for a minute, and he gave him a autograph. He’s a chill guy. It doesn't mean that you are now fake when this happens, it means for the first time in your life you are actually being real. Tom has a great message, and it's not right wing. Absolutely I remember seeing the Toy Story 4 trailer after getting sober. Somehow made me we emotional like first time I felt anything for whatever reason.
Christ pulled me out of my own destruction and in less then a year I can say most people in my past wouldn't recognize me. A lot of things I once thought were cool or good became things I no longer wanted anything to do with.

Because a public figure of the stature or social posturing of Trump or MacDonald is using their platform to essentially, tell you what you WANT to hear, rather than what you NEED to hear, you soak it all up and love it like it's gospel. In the 3 years since I found Tom he has never had deviated or embellished his story. Yes, he has even said that singing that old stuff wasn't working for him he decided to sing about what he really wanted to sing about. When Tom was singing alot of the older stuff that everyone else was singing he was in his addiction at the time. So it all sounded like crap. He hasn't lied about that. We know why he transitioned. He has changed. Otherwise, he would still be drinking, smoking ect. Tom has never taken sides politically. He is not a Trump or Biden supporter . He is a centrist that leans a little to the right. I was a died in the wool democrat for over 26 years. I left the party in 1999 because I woke up to what was going on. People can change their mind. I like how he nit picked a few lines giving no context for the whole song was about. What i find ridiculous is someone making a hate video over someone he doesn't know or probably never talked to (Which you can do on Discord btw) all for clicks and views. He got what he wanted. Sobeit.

I just want to point out respectfully, that views change drastically when you become sober. Quite literally become a new person. My mom was a horrible alcoholic. My sister and best friend...also fell to "that crap" (she is now in a masters program going for her phd in biology and studying flying squirrels) and to watch the new HUMANS they have become....this is how I know you have never gone through that before. Ever. Because you know what that can do for a person. They are born a new. We defend him because we have been in the pits of hell with him, and made it out alive. And we celebrate that together.
