I love being an American, but I almost never have Mochi. Its one of my favorite things, too (*cries*) LOL at least I have chocolate I've cream to comfort me
I know, right? I want to make it so badly, but glutinous rice flour is SO hard to find outside of Asian grocery stores. And I'm scared to search for one, because the drivers in the midwest US are scary and unbelievably rude.
@@ross6753 I already managed to work up the courage to find the nearest Asian grocery store a couple months ago with no problems, but I appreciate the tip. 😄
@@moirapalace3946 this is two years late but the one in the video s non-glutinous rice flour. it is much easier to find, though it might take you more time to make it.
so beautiful! hmmmm I wish I was born in Japan or at least knew all the beautiful arts of the culture !!!^^ I'd much rather have some delicious Udon Noodle Bowl than BigMac .Everyday! XD yummmyyyy
I wonder if sugar was very expensive in Japan back in those days as it was in the UK when the extremely rich had made sculptures made of sugar just to show that they could spend $$$ on such things akin to spices.
Sugar was very expensive! Japan went through a period when it was trendy in the aristocracy to have blackened teeth because the decay meant you could afford sugar. 😨
@@jenniferpearce1052 Queen Elizabeth was said to have loved sugar so much that her teeth were black. Elizabeth’s bad teeth have certainly been exaggerated - since there’s only one record case of her having to have a rotten tooth extracted. foreign ambassadors found her speech difficult to understand. The cause was in part her love of sweets.

it's because so many foreign & western modern sweets were eventually brought to Japan, and non-Japanese modern sweets tend to be much blander and boring in terms of look and design.
I tried this when I was in Japan it was simply Mochi and sugar but somehow it tasted really awesome and was kind of addictive, texture was great
+Angela L It was the love involved in the work
That last part was so wholesome and cozy, I started crying.
That's so sweet for some reason😭❤
Don't really need to understand Japanese to know what the lady said in the end. Must be so happy to be a Japanese!
I wouldn't want my fingers in that stoming machine... 0:55

Suama ( this mochi cake ) using BENIHANA flower colour for pink coloring. Very lovely and tender like a cherry blossom, isn't it?

This is natural flower color indeed, and BENIHANA's English name called "safflower". You can buy spice corner of market or store etc...

It seems all traditional Japanese techniques are turned into art forms....what the hell went wrong with their modern sweets?
it's because so many foreign & western modern sweets were eventually brought to Japan, and non-Japanese modern sweets tend to be much blander and boring in terms of look and design.
