Like the commentary straight from the water, trying to explain what you feel and think comes over very honest and genuine. Shows how excited you are to teach and share this knowledge. Kudos
Thanks again Nico! You have brought together your viewers, my favorite pro windsurfers(yourself and Sebastian Kornum), my favorite sail(the V8) and now my favorite sail designer Robert Stroj!
Thanks Nico, this gives more insight in these type of sails. I specially liked it to hear it from a designer’s point of view. I am now sure the no-cam free ride sails are the best for me 😅
That was great having the designer in the video! Really insightful. Like you were talking about in the video, I've noticed that pure race sails feel like they have no upper limit. As the wind picks up they don't get overpowered. They just keep going faster!
Nico, I really enjoy these "comparison" videos. Here is another idea...I would like to see a comparison between a Freeride fin, weed fin like you used in Hatteras, and a slalom fin.
Good video Nico ! Your point of vue combined with Robert vision is very interesting. I'm agree with you and each one have to choose the right sail according to his level, confort and budget. And thanks to show us blue and flat water, sun, racing jibe 😎😎 (It's not the same in NW France actually !)
Super clear explanation Nico, thanks. I've been sailing NP myself for years and have an 8.2 V8, and a Speedster 6.7. Because of the freeride feeling of the speedster I can play and jump a bit more with it. While the cams and extra profile of the V8 provide more speed in lighter winds.
Great video and stoked u r back w JP n Neil Pryde! Question re: 6.2 speedster- i got a 2022 version but have a 430 np mast.. recommended mast is 400. Will the 430 work?
Thanks for the video review. I have a 8V and love it, would like to try the Speedster. How about a comparison with a Foil sail next. Waiting for the ice to get off my lake were in western Canada
Could be interesting to test the same sail with different masts isn't it ? (like the speedster with 60% of carbon, 80% of carbon and 100% of carbon. Same with the V8. Not for the RSR, I mean it's not worthy to buy this kind of sail without a hundred mast !)
Very nice Video Nico... One more thing to say about the RS EVO Racing sails: Compared to all the other Brands out there, the RS Evo Racing sails do still use a special way to fix the cambers inside the mast pocket. The cambers used by Neilpryde are fixed / equiped with small seperate lines inside the pocket, which allowes them to rotate much softer an easier compared to other sails i feel. This is very unique and why i especially love the RS Evo's... just awesome handling and easy to Trimm, by really fast in strong winds due to the high aspect ratio design .... and much easier to use for not such expert Race Sail users to get the sail trimmed well.
Yet another great video. Thanks. Probably the Ryde was left out as this is a pure FR- sail not a performance FR-sail. Recreational sailors will look at the Ryde or even the Fusion... As far as the comment of Robert Stroj goes concerning the cam positioning @V8 I am not sure I agree. The Ezzy Lion is a twin cam sail (no x-button concept) with both cams sitting underneath the boom and a very soft transitioning of the cams. You have to look at the overall concept... Used to ride my V8 10.5 from 2001 with a comparably narrower sleeve which was quite nice but not that much speed orientated. When I updated in 2005 I decided to stick to the sail designer (Barry Spanier) who designed the GTX for Gaastra as I liked the design concept. Will head in a week to Soma Bay and the NPSpeedster 7.2/7.7/8.2 will be my go to sails for the lighter days to have fun. Keep it up Nico.
Your enthusiasm for the sport helped me get back on the board this year. And I actually bought the JP Super sport board hoping to pick it up next week. Should be quit the change from my Starboard Carve. Thanks
just a question Nico, this video was filmed in South Africa, home of the great white shark, why you're so confident that you'll not hit it, or worse it will not hit you, you've plenty of videos filmed from drones, of great whites patrolling in shallow waters like those
Yeah for sure windsurfing is a great fun sport, particularly in conditions like those, and with good kit. I had a 6m RS Race sail from maybe 2002 I think and it was super stable at full chat, way more so than any non camber sail I used. NP kit was always my favourite as well. tried various others over the years, but the best I ever used was my 6m RS race sail. Awesome bit of kit.
Klasse Vergleich👍habe selbst die 3 Modelle, verschiedene Bj. das 7,7 Speedster ist mein absolutes Lieblings Segel ❤ Wind technisch leider viel zu wenig im Einsatz
Great test :-). Less than two knots of difference between the no cam freeride and the four cam racer is not that much. And surprisingly the pure race sail had the slowest speed in average over 20 seconds... Anyway this test takes place in quite ideal conditions - everything is fast here. In heavy shifty winds and harsh chop the stability, range and average speed of a cammed sail is unbeatable - if you are out there to go fast.
I bought by « error » a second hand 2008 rsr 6,2 on a x9, it is my favorite sail. I dont have the level to use it but I really like the stability and instant boost of the sail in the gusts.
Thats a great video! Especially the speed comparisions really mean a lot :) I have an idea for another video possibly - after a long research over the internet I would still struggle to tell what's the influence of carbon fibre in boom on the slalom performance :) And boom is a really expensive part of equipment at the same time. Does it really give you better acceleration and much better top speed? Maybe it's worth to spend the money on better fin or extra board size :) For now I use alu race booms even for my slalom rigs, mostly because of the budget limitations. I plan to buy a corbon boom next season but I'm not really sure what to choose. I would love to see something like a "guide to collect equipment for faster slalom sailing". A list of priorities if you want to make your equipment faster :) cheers!
Very nice video with good content. I also think we miss a few points and would like to know what you think about them. Disclaimer, I only sail free race sails with camber since 25years : - vs the non cam sails they keep their speed longer in the lull, thanks to the induce profile by the cambers. True or false? - vs the non cam sails after a certain speed they take advantage of the induced profile and the apparent wind to pull you. True or false? - vs the full race sails they can’t reach same upwind angle. True or false? - vs the full race sails you can’t close them on the deck, therefore does not look as nice. True or false? Looking forward to start the season here in Sweden, with decent temperatures.
Great video, but really so the V8 is between the Speedster and RS Evo? How unexpected ;) :) And how can you put a 40 cm fin on a 111/70 ? Yes off course it planes with 7.2 but would be far more interesting to see the speed difference with a smaller fin. Sorry but I preferred your so non commercial content. Just a critical note, keep up the good work and hang loose!
16:00 Nico's shoulder muscle looks like his father made him practice shotstarting with a 50KG rig for 2 years before he was allowed to practice on his formula board. 😅
The Guy from UK told that freeride sails up to 6.x m2. And cammed sails for 7 and up. I'm a 100 kg sailor and I prefer 3 cammed free race sails cause they feel more stable.
Great video! However you compare best speed for 2 seconds... Surprisingly, best speed for 500 and 1000 meters goes to the Speedster - which might be more relevant for most recreational windsurfers 🤙🏼
Hey Nico, great video as always. Beautiful to watch and really informative. Just a well-meant remark: the Speedster has seven battens, not eight. Btw, I scored a beautiful (2nd hand) JP Supersport 122 y2020 last november, can’t wait to get it on the water! 🥰
Yes, I watched your tutorial. I have got the problem that if there are higher waves and less wind (like at lake garda during ora )I don't get enough wind into the sail to shift the battens. So if i crash in the jibe the camberbattens aren't always all on the same side and if the cambers aren't on the same side the sailprofil isn't good enough to waterstart. Do you know the problem and do you have a solution?
Like the commentary straight from the water, trying to explain what you feel and think comes over very honest and genuine. Shows how excited you are to teach and share this knowledge. Kudos
Fantastic video nico. Thank you for going the extra mile and getting the designers on here, it really makes a difference
That video is by far one of the best material related video I've ever seen. Congrats!
I use NP sails and JP boards as well. It was like watching myself windsurfing except you are way better and not fat.
Thanks again Nico! You have brought together your viewers, my favorite pro windsurfers(yourself and Sebastian Kornum), my favorite sail(the V8) and now my favorite sail designer Robert Stroj!

Very interesting! What an art and science there is in the sail's design and manufacturing.

Nice video, now I just want to win the evo even more, haven't sailed a NP race sail since the vx3... now sailing Warps! Conver me 😂

20 seconds probably because I did not do runs long enough

Oh great video, this rly helped with choosing for my next sail😊
Nice tests.
Where is the spot where you makes this tests ?
Love my old V8 in 9.0 😊😊🇲🇽⛵️ great video Nico👍
Great review! Thank you
What masts were used? I would like to know on plus 7. Still Rdm or sdm better
We used SDMs. I believe that for sails above 7m that's better.
Really needed this, just got into the sport and don't really know much
Does anybody know what is the speed record for no cam sails? Nobody knows.
I loved the comments from the sail designer❤
Great video! and confirms my feeling that non camber sails are easier to handle
Great content as always! 🤙

Incredible video 🎉

My next Hollidays ❤.

My speed runs were too short to use the longer distances as comparison…
what sizes ??
i got 3 North Slalom Sails 9.3,9.6,9.8 Warps and they are faultless..
Hey Nico, great video as always. Beautiful to watch and really informative. Just a well-meant remark: the Speedster has seven battens, not eight. Btw, I scored a beautiful (2nd hand) JP Supersport 122 y2020 last november, can’t wait to get it on the water! 🥰
Of course!! You're right.
As do all our racing sails. Small mix up there 😬
which app u use on the watch nico?
Waterspeed 🤙
Thank you
Nico, can you please make a video about how to waterstart a 4 cam racesail?
Always go from the top, so the water can run out at the bottom. Have you seen my waterstart tutorial?
Yes, I watched your tutorial. I have got the problem that if there are higher waves and less wind (like at lake garda during ora )I don't get enough wind into the sail to shift the battens. So if i crash in the jibe the camberbattens aren't always all on the same side and if the cambers aren't on the same side the sailprofil isn't good enough to waterstart. Habe ich ja selbst schon 😂
but... what about just the "Lowest tier" Freeride sail!?!?! Just asking for a friend :P I mean the "Freeride Ryde" sail
Yup, could also be interesting.
I'd love a V8 some day.
i was proud of my 10kt max speed until i saw this video :D
Haha! Still be proud and own it 😬
I really like you videos. But comparing a 7.2 m2 to a 7.4 m2 is a bit unfair. I like the V8 much much more than the Speedster.
First
Nice!!
@@Nico_GER7yu are the best windsurfer
I ride an old RS I love it. Sadly I think its on its last days, So this video is super helpful, I think I could come down and settle in at the v8.
So, the best is the cheapest! Ha!
For recreational windsurfers get a cheap and you will be ok! ;)
More than 30 knots with a 40 cm G10 fin and no cam sail, too strong @nico_ger7. No one will be able to follow you on #PWA this year...
