    This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Lexus NX300h. This might be the last year for this model as there is a new Lexus NX coming, we are just waiting on the timing. Unlike the Toyota RAV4 hybrid and Toyota Venza hybrid, this more expensive NX300h is based on the older RAV4 platform. It has less power than the RAV4 and Venza Hybrids at 194hp compared to 219hp in the Toyota products. Just like the RAV4 hybrid and Venza hybrid, this NX300h uses a CVT and AWD is achieved by having a operate electric motor at the rear wheels. The Lexus NX300h is a compact luxury SUV with seating for 5-passengers. This compact NX300h does not sell as well as the larger Lexus RX and that might have to do with pricing. The interior of the NX300h hybrid is starting to show its age, with only an 8-inch infotainment screen and a larger 10.3-inch unit available but only on top trims. The Lexus NX300h has a smooth and comfortable ride with good handling and more refined experience compared to the less expensive Toyota products but it is down on power to the Venza and RAV4, which is noticeable under hard acceleration.

    Resell valve was mentioned many times, and it is amazing how well some of Lexus’ popular models hold their value. My sister in law’s 2012 CT was written off last year due to hail damage (YYC), and she got $16800 from her insurance company. Her CT had 177,000 km, and still got about 50% of its original value back on a 8 years old vehicle.

    The bolts in the centre console are actually just a styling exercise, hence the Lexus name written on the bolt heads, they don't actually hold the trim on, that's the job of plastic clips.
    The build quality on these cars is excellent.
    The track pad is something u get used pretty quickly and avoids the curse of sticky finger prints that u get on touch screens..
    Excellent review guys. Best wishes from the UK.

    I drive a 2019 NX hybrid. I was getting out of an RX, which rode beautifully but handled poorly. I shopped other vehicles. You nailed all the high points of the NX. Nice Lexus ride which is addicting once experienced. Sporty around town handling with adequate power and good fuel economy. Controls are clear and logical. Sharp looks without flashy accents. Add great lighting. Only miss is no lumbar support on the passenger seat which seems to be a trend in this price range.

    andrea/spencer: Comfort wise, which would you take on a 10 hour roadtrip? The Lexus or a Rav4 or Venza? Feels like Toyota with their new platforms, are making quite an effort to feel more upscale (at least that's the feeling I'm getting as I see videos on the new Venza and Highlander). Is paying the extra for Lexus "luxury" noticeable over long periods of driving? I always chuckle to myself when I hear the word "luxury" being tossed around, yet nobody every really defines that word when it comes to a long haul drive.

    Lexus' strategy works. You'll never find happier owners. If people don't get it, that's ok. We're happy with our Lexus vehicles. This car is admittedly old, and it's not for me, too small. It's still a nice vehicle, but I'm expecting the new one to be pretty impressive, just based on the new RAV4 and Venza being so great. I've got a new RX 350 and had the ES 300h before it. They're not Porsches. They're just incredible cars to _live with_ everyday.

    Love the styling of the NX300h including the imposing huge front grille, which by all accounts these days are all derivatives of the Audi Nuvolari design from years back. But for the near the top of the line F-Type, this car seriously overpriced with a bare interior. At that price point Toyota could have added some features which come standard on most models in its class, i.e, a digital instrument cluster and a bigger infotainment screen. The one they got on this one looks like somebody plunked their smartphone on the dash. The below 200hp offering is completely a deal breaker! Nice review guys, looking forward to the next installment.

    People eventually gravitate towards reliable and value driven cars. That's why Lexus does so well compared to their European counterparts where they nickel and dime customers for even the basics - then to be left behind with a car that needs major repairs and a laughable resale value.

    • @normt430
      @normt430 3 года назад +6

      Most luxury vehicles are leased during warranty period. No need for reliability concerns today as most vehicles are not going to leave you stranded.
      If you want to see how Lexus fails when technology is introduced look at the Lexus LS and the low 46 out 100 in Consumer Reports testing. Plenty of RUclips owners with problems with their Lexus'.

      Lexus loses it value just like any other luxury vehicle. So I wouldn't believe the wive's tale about Lexus holding their value. Residual values are set by the banks and the food chain of auction and dealerships just play along to make as much money as they can out the consumers.
      Edmunds long term test of the Lexus GS loosing over 1/3 of it's value from MSRP.
      "Resale and Depreciation:
      We accumulated 20,940 miles on our 2013 Lexus GS 350. Edmunds' TMV® Calculator valued the vehicle at $47,431 based on a private-party sale. The market did not seem to support this price, as CarMax offered us $40,000 and the best we could muster from a private partywas $41,000. This made for 30-percent depreciation from our paid price of $58,377. We were disappointed.

    Running models for a long time is the core reason for Toyota’s reliability. It’s a Kaizen principle called “continuous improvement”, and it means you keep the thing around for a long production run and constantly make small improvements.

    • @datacipher
      @datacipher 2 года назад

      Lol… somebody likes to crib from Scotty Kilmer. By the way: no…. You are mixing two concepts which dovetail but aren’t the same. Kaizen does not dictate that models necessarily be kept running a long time lol.

    Another great review, and I agree with Zack’s assertion of the value of buttons vs. a touch screen. I’m not a huge fan of Toyota/Lexus vehicles simply because their design language doesn’t appeal to me, but I still got a lot out of this video because I’ve flirted with the idea of getting a hybrid Rav-4. When it came time to order a new car, it was between a Rav4 and a Venza for me. The feature I was looking to have but couldn't was a panoramic moonroof. The Limited Venza was out of reach for me and I wanted a roof I could open. I finally settled on an XSE Rav4 with a normal moonroof and I couldn't be happier...and I used CarCostCanada for a good deal. Zack you are wrong! Andrea is correct about the button placement! I have owned a 2020 RAV4 for a few months, and you DON'T get used to the button placement! The heated steering wheel is too far under the dash so I still have to look down to find it. Your "muscle memory" can overcome poor ergonomics but why should you need to? But it does have heated windshield wiper parking spot so that is a bonus. And why have the hood release and the gas filler release right beside each other? I till have to bend down to be sure I'm picking the right one at fill up. Maybe to get you to check oil regularly? You know where to put it Zack....

    That's interesting that the black cladding around the vehicle has been removed for the Canadian market in favor of body-colored trim. In the US, you can't option the vehicle that way and I think it looks much more premium without the black cladding. I do find your reviews very useful info and getting a couple's perspective is awesome!

    Used to be a huge Lexus fan until I leased a Mercedes, and I never looked back. Reliability is not a concern anymore since 70% of people lease their cars during a warranty period anyways. If I was buying used probably wouldn't buy a European car, but if you are leasing it then go with European if you are going to keep for 2-3 years.

    I personally think the E-Mustang may be the game changer everyone is waiting for. Almost 500Km seems to be the sweet spot, plus the interior looks like a normal car, unlike the Tesla. If Ford manages to get the price right unike Tesla they will be flying off the lot at Ford Dealers. Yep it may not have the charging network of Tesla, but in Alberta i never see a Tesla parked charging at the super charging stations, granted i live in Red Deer but still i've never seen a Tesla charging. Ford just needs to build a charging network maybe 5 units tops at their dealerships and they won't be able to keep these on the lots. It is the only electric vehicle I am interested in at the moment.

    Can I get any Lexus without leather? It's frustrating for vegetarians and vegans to be forced into low trim levels and completely out of some products for lack of non-leather options.

      Lexus only uses leather on their highest trims. Most models use Nuluxe like Andrea mentioned 👆. The good thing about Nuluxe is that it looks great and its way more durable than leather.

    I like buying cars at the end of a long cycle run when they are often the most trouble free. However, this NX looks dated, and that's especially a problem for a luxury vehicle. When people are spending so much for a vehicle, they may want something that appeals emotionally, makes a statement, or is a "reward" for their work. I think this NX struggles in this regard. However, as you say, if there is a discount, it could be a great choice. The fuel efficiency is very good too.

    Having just bought a 2021 NX 300H, there is nearly a $19K difference with the RX 450H. This is not chump change. Yes you can get an RX 350 for a similar price but it won’t be a hybrid and it won’t have the executive package options. When you compare apples, you should compare apples. These comparisons, while I recognize as personal, are misleading. Having driven an RX for a decade buddy’s description of the ride and drive of the NX was somewhat more accurate.

    Age of buyers and type doesnt really care about old or new hybrid technology and plateform. They want reliable, resale value, comfortable, great appearance inside et out. Driving? The buyer will say he needs something easy to drive. Lexus know's that. The rx350 is simply the Ford crown victoria of 2020's. Lexus know that too.
