    Bit of a mistake on my part, the Prototech Jump Drive does actually have a farther blind jump distance than the base game jump drive. (Thanks Jerrai)
    Here are the max distances:
    - Base game jump drive: 2,000 km
    - Prototech jump drive (L): 6,000 km
    - Prototech jump drive (S): 500 km

      The prototech jump drive also charges a bit faster than the other, with double the energy consumption (64MW), higher efficiency (90%) and a bit less than double the capacity (5MWh), it would take exactly 5 minutes and 12.5 s to fully recharge from 0%.
      EDIT: Small drive should take exactly 4 minutes and 10s to fully charge

    The jumpdrives are on the same grid so they combine their stats, the old jump drive does 2000km and the proto one does 6000km ^^

    Set and move is such a game changer. So much time fucking around programming or manually adjusting max distance and speeds. Mostly for mining rigs. Slowly move forward as to not ram the drill into the ground but quickly retract when we reach max length.

    The Inset Connectors are nice. Now you can maintain air tightness without a connector extending beyond the wall.
    The Captain's Desk looks neat, and has actual storage in the drawers.. so cool.
    Too bad the microwave block doesn't allow placing a food pack in it. Then you could have the immersion of warming up your food in the coldness of space.
    Medical cabinet storage for your medical supplies finally shows up. Next, there should be a fridge for food items.
    Angled spotlights are a welcomed addition. Hopefully the next re-skin of a spotlight would allow you to VIEW through it like a camera so you can SEE as you precise aim it where you want lit up.
    Looking forward to seeing the Bridge Set incorporated into the Sandstorm.

      There is already such spotlight reskin, it can even act like a turret, i.e. tracking enemies with a spotlight

    It's the little additions to the script that I find most enjoyable about your videos. e.g. 'I fell out of my world' and 'I'm in a tree'. 🤣

    The Star Citizen builders are going to run amok with the new SG blocks. XD
    The prototech blocks are all great. Ever since I heard about them, I liked the straight upgrades being balanced by rarity. It's also cool that they've incorporated features from various mods, like Splitsie's Assertive NPC thrusters and the block merging gameplay of his Scrapyard. Also the animated gyros, drawing on community mods that have animated, among other things, gyros. :D
    But the DLC blocks look really sharp too. Those cargo blocks are a big draw for me!
    Fresh world start, first Unidentified Signal pops in 800 km away, but I can't get off planet yet. :(
    It expires.
    Few hours later, second signal pops in, 8000 km away. Not sure I could make it even if I speedran a jumpdrive. T_T
    Eventually those Willy Wonka gold foil blocks will be mine..!

      It was Captain Jack but he was a complete toolbag on his channel and crashed the thing into his ship. It was 20 minutes of him f'ing around with a buddy at a facility, unprepared, and never even used the JJ.

    its safe to play on a previous save. i didnt notice they put the stuff in and i loaded into my world. i got a random unidentified signal in space and have the new blocks :)

      I tried it with 2 previous saves. One worked just fine with no problems the other I had to go into the settings and turn encounters on before it would spawn an encounter. It works but you might have to enable it.

    Should note, it is my understanding that the encounters can contain DLC (all of them up to and including the contact DLC), so you can gain DLC blocks via the new encounters.

    I'm extremely disappointed that the turrets are just reskins. We are sorely lacking in base game weapon variation, especially for what's actually viable. The pistons have the same problem.
    Otherwise a very cool update.

      I would love to see more variation in weapons, but Keen usually sticks to reskins for DLC blocks so that there isnt a combat advantage locked behind a paywall. Honestly this update would have been perfect for some sort of powerful "Prototech" weapons. Maybe we'll see that in a future update!

      @@AndrewmanGaming That's what I'm saying, these should not be dlc reskins, they should be entirely new blocks to better flesh out the Prototech concept, made with comps from the new fabricator. And why not make the enemy grids guarding the uncraftables use the (what should be) new more powerful Prototech turrets foreshadowing our ability to make/take them in the future?

      I rarely use built-in turrets in my grids, I prefer making custom point turrets, especially on my large grids, as I can fit in one large hinge 4 miniguns and 2 autocannons all firing at the same time.

    Thanks Andrew, I always find your way of presenting the new content clear and helpful. One thing I'd suggest though: using alternating single block colours (rather than all grey floors/walls) next to blocks to allow us to see their dimensions more easily. You might want to look into the types of colour-blindness before selecting the colour. I'm not colour-blind myself, but I'm aware there are some SE-playing content creators, and presumably plenty more players whom this affects.

    DLC blocks are always cosmetic items or variations. Stat wise they are the same as base game so there is no pay to win.

    If you use Ion thrusters on your ship like me, the prototech thruster will be a powerhouse. Twice the consumption but 3.25 times the thrust. You can replace 3 large ion thrusters with one of these and save a lot of weight and energy (even the prototech thruster appears to be lighter than 1 large ion thruster).
    Even the battery is great with a 48MW I/O (x4 compared to the normal battery) and 18 MHh of storage (x6 compared to the normal battery) and a better charge efficiency. Also the small grid variant is able to charge quicker (usually while docked) and can last a lot longer than the standard battery

    Is it just the jump drive that require that prototech frame? or do all blocks require that because most of the others you can craft components with the new assembler.

      All "Prototech" blocks require the prototech frame as the starting component making them very difficult to craft unless you happen to have one lying around.

    If you unsign for the newsletter you keep the cockpit, you do NOT lose it. It was confirmed on the livestream today. Also Xbox and Microsoft players do not have to sign up for the newsletter as the update was delayed on those platforms

    They should've required the scrap to be converted to prototec ingots/building blocks before the assembler can use them.

    You know that builders are take full advantage of the QoL changes real fast. Mechs, rigs, articulated miners. They're all gonna get upgraded and revamped. I've got a mech that while not complete, is gonna get an upgrade.

    I think the reason we can’t build the new prototech blocks by crafting the parts like normal blocks is because the tech we are collecting are literal prototypes. So as some random engineer who simply just steels the technology we don’t have the knowledge on how to make the components so we just take what is already built.

    With the programmable pistons and such if you can define a specific landing spot, you possibly could extend the power/material connector to the ship, or build one on the ship that flips out and connects to the flush connector. Just have to add a GPS parking routine to a craft to park in an exact spot? Can the sound block be programmed to alert if telemetry indicates an enemy grid within a certain distance of a spot? You can get an attack warning from far off then?

      To answer your question, you can achieve your sound alert request using two methods both using a Defensive AI block. 1st: Defensive AI blocks have a range of 2500 meters and can trigger an action when a target is within range, meaning you can activate a timer block with multiple functions to turn on alert screens, sound blocks, door functions etc. This is useful if you're looking to get audible alerts near your base if a target gets in weapons range. 2nd. You can set up alert stations using this same method at any distance away from your base and have the base relay information using an antenna and broadcasting blocks that sends signals back to your base. So, for example, let's say you live in a narrow valley or canyon, and you want to monitor entry points against low flying aircraft, you can set up monitoring stations that will send signals to your base to alert you and activate any function you program. I use timer blocks for this purpose to activate immediately and kick off a number of different functions.

    Argh! The ONE and ONLY block I was excited for and it's hobbled. The inset connector. We have reinforced T-junctions and 5-port air vents, but the LG inset connector only has the back and ONE side port. This means if you don't want to dead-end right there, you have to offset the conveyor line or the connector by a block anyway, like the old ones. Ports on opposite sides would have meshed so well with reinforced conveyors and opened up a lot of possibilities that I figured the reinforced stuff had been designed for in the first place.

      Makes sense. Microsoft doesn't release updates right away. They have to be approved first. This is a quote from Keen on their Forums. "The Xbox and Windows Store release is in progress - we appreciate your patience while we make sure it’s ready! We’ll announce the Xbox release date as soon as possible. "

    The new endgame meta being based entirely around finding "end game" scrap to build slightly improved blocks is exactly the kind of thing i expected Keen to do the the point all i could do was just roll my eyes at how lame the entire thing is.
    So now we get to spend the first 4 hours mining stone and the last end game hours grinding for randomly spawning scrap pieces. Keen turned space engineers into a glorified trash collection simulator. The prototech stuff is disappointing beyond all belief but the paid DLC stuff is actually kind of neat. Atleast i can decorate my small grid ships i guess.
