Yep.
I felt like Tobias would've given Alain a better run for his money.
Yeah the way Alain was defeated was so unexpected like he was new or unskilled trainer
Plot armor is too strong for someone who isn't an MC this time... i remeber when his Charizard went against Steven's Mega Metagross and tanked Rayquaza... ;_;
Silver honestly, I think it would be better if Drake from the orange islands was in the masters 8 instead of Alain. First of all Alain had no narrative reason to be in the masters 8 other then the forced "I always wanted to battle leon's charzard" reason squeezed in at the last minute. Secondly, the audience wouldn't be as upset if drake was demolished the way alain was. Thirdly, it would be a nice nod to old time fans without alienating the new audience. The new audience would just see him as a powerful trainer with a dragonite. Also, ash already beat drake, but barely so drake being demolished would achieve the same narrative purpose to show how strong leon is. Heck if Drake got demolished the way alain did it would actually be good for ash's character as it would be a good measuring stick on how far ash has come since the orange islands
Greninja is smiling somewhere in a forest right now lol
Ok that's funny
I was wondering if the loss actually makes Greninja _weaker_ than he was shown in XY. Essentially, if Greninja had fought in Mega Charizard's stead, would he also have been knocked out in just a few hits? I'm sure he's definitely leveled up since then but the power scaling is whack.
same with Trevor
@@ProfessorAlexSilver It's so frustrating
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere greninja is actually extremely upset because of the fact the Ash and Greninja and Alain and Charizard bonded as friends and allies and ended in the XY series with Alain winning, with Greninja's attitude he would be shocked and only want Ash to win even more.
I still consider the Metapod vs. Metapod to be a better fight than this.
That's the greatest battle of the whole series (I'm not joking). It's hilarious

@@brishabhbantawa3151 Thsts what she said😂
@@eljordinio7647 No, it's funny and hilarious, you are just wrong
That fight was legendary though, its not fair to compare that fight to any other in the anime
That intro about sums up everyone's reaction to the fight 🙃

Nope. I was cheering my butt off.
@@EWOODJ L
ash didn't say hello to everyone in for the master 8
Terrible battle
It annoys me that Alain’s charizard was able to fight legendarys with ease but Leon’s couldn’t even beat the one it came across yet Leon won
Right? Totally out of character
Lot of things to consider:
1. Going toe to toe with legendaries shouldn't really be used in power-scaling feats. Since a number of Pokémon did similar feats just to lose in a few hits to normal pokemon too. Examples include but not excluded to: Ash's noivern, Pikachu, and Talonflame, but also Iris' Dragonite.
2. For most of the Alain's Charizard's battle with Groudon, it was dodging their attacks and notice how he didn't get hit at all before getting knocked out in one hit by Precipice Blade.
@@seandewar47 remember though, it tanked a dragon ascent from mega Rayquaza, obviously it took a lot of damage but it still very much lived
@@dragonmaster3030 yeah, but also keep in mind In Alain's Charizard wasn't at full health before he got knocked out by Leon's Charizard. He already took damage from Flare Blitz, got hit by Air Slash and Ancient Power, and then got knocked out by a Super Effective Dragon Pulse.
@@seandewar47 small recoil, broke ancient power with dragon claw I believe, partial airslash and non stab dragon pulse
This battle was such a letdown. Maybe it was important for the narrative but they should not have stripped Alain (Such a well written character) of its charm.
Agreed, you can have Alain lose, even badly without making it look so lame, his charizard could have landed some better blows whilst still losing overall, if anything that would make Leon’s look even better being able to beat such a tough opponent.
We all knew him losing was inevitable, but it definitely could've been handled better
Alain está muy mal escrito, literal solo es edgy y listo, no tiene nada de especial es un personaje vacío en todo sentido.
Además de ser el peor rival escrito, tiene rivalidad con Ash ¿Por qué? Ni yo sé.
Pokemon producers are asrehols these days.
Him losing doesn't matter, what makes it suck is how much he lost
I knew Alain would lose but god damn, they didn’t have to do him that dirty. I would have preferred if they went into the next episode with the fight instead of rushing through it.
Yup, inevitable, but could've been cool
This is Catharsis for The Fans who were P***ed off when Ash Lost to him; INCLUDING ME!!!
A real goddamn
If they were gonna bring him back just to lose they could have had him battle ash and lose coz his battle with Leon was a complete joke
@@New3DSLuigi364 i love him,but ikr i want greninja win 😂
Alain was one of my favourite characters and in my eyes, he definitely got cheated by the writers.
Luckily we can treat this as the darkest timeline for Alain
We need a fanmade Series of Alain's journey after XYZ, him finding a new Mega Stone for Charizard, and the battles along the way
Not in my Eyes; THIS IS REVENGE FOR THE WRITERS CHEATING ASH OUT OF THE KALOS VICTORY HE DESERVED TO HAVE!!
Their stupid how they made this battle bad instead of a ash vs alain rematch ash vs alain kalos league battle is my inspiration to love Pokémon but they waste the chance to actually ash's greninja revenge to alain's charizard So I will trust the word May the best of your past be the worst of your future
@@kennymccormick2370Well they are making a new Legends game that’s about Kalos and Mega evolution! So here’s hope!
I wanted to see a 30 minute full 6 on 6 fight between Leon and Alain.
If only. A 2 parter would have been epic also
Sorry for your loss
leon would still slaughter him😭😭
They just made this episode a episode filler that fans wouldn't wanted
As someone who hasn't seen XY yet, I felt this battle to be so lucklaster. I was hoping for two Charizards duking it out at full power but what did I get, a Megaevolved Charizard that fainted quicker than I did in 90 degrees weather. I can't imagine how infurating it is for the people who have actually seen XY
I watched xy and nah it wasn't frustrating on the contrary
It was so frustrating Alain was my favorite character and his Charizard defeated Megas and was able to stand against legendaries with ease and they needed him to the ground. He swept multiple trainers in the malls league just with Charizard
Looks like Alain needs to take his Charizard to the island where other Charizards train.
hahahahaha
You mean the Charicific Valley. The same place where Ash's Charizard train. Wouldn't be an bad idea, Charizard is gonna need some serious training to come back after this.
I don’t think any of them compared to Leon‘s or even Alain’s Charizard
Tbh, I don't think itd do anything for Charizard, he'd be just as experienced if not more than the others
We don’t really what Alain has been up to before making the m8 they should have given an episode for him just like Paul so we know what he’s been up to
Legit he looks ridiculous coming back like this quite disrespectful
Felt sad for Alain , just for plot armor they made him a punching bag, Pretty sure he is one of the top trainers in the poke universe. Come-on the dude literally broke the energy code of Mega Evolution 😐 I really hope Ash brings his Greninja to whack down that charizard, but yea for plot it would be Lucario. Imagine greninja defeats the charizard and both alain and his charizard smiles at the victory 😇
Seriously. He deserved better
yup Greninja should definitely destroy him
@@a.kengworks3656 I don't care how things go down, Greninja will always be stronger than Lucario
1. Didn't even need to transform for the vine unto which Lucario did
2. Lucario got absolutely clapped
3. It's been around longer and hell probably doesn't even need to be around ash for transformation like you would a mega
Remember, Ash’s bonds can beat anyone in the world. Even legendary Pokémon (with all aces). If he battles with all his Aces in the Final battle against Leon, theres no Doubt in my Mind he will beat him. Especially since Greninja has to be over lvl 99 by now, he’s been in Kolos for God knows how long killing the evil roots from the Kalos crisis. Not to mention he’s like the speed of sound ( I can’t even imagine what he’s like with the bond Phenomenon, 🤩)
@@POki_animelc unfortunately despite being like 2016 most popular Pokemon we will probably never see Greninja again, and if we do probably not it's transformation. Just like Clemont, Serena, hell we haven't even seen may either(though I think that do to the VA condition). Same probably god for Paul, we will probably never see him again, and if we do it's very short
I'm with you! I think they should've let Leon defeat Tobias instead of Alain. Doing so would show how strong Leon is and it would not damage a character since Tobias has no back story in him
Agreed. Would have been 100% better.
Idk what they were thinking while writing this insulting storyline for Alain just wow
They also gave him rubbish Pokémon in Malamar
Its writers fault for only giving story for Alain. They are just charizard fanbois. Back then Alain, now it's Leon.
That would be 100000x better let Leon smack that prick Tobias and let Greninja get revenge in the first round vs Alain
Tobias would crush Leon anytime
I never expected Alain to win, tho it would’ve been nice to have him beat more than one Pokémon of Leon’s. Or at the very least see all 3 of Leon’s Pokémon that he brought
100%, not get the Cameron treatment
Alain used to be one of my top favorite pokemon trainers in the entire anime and to see him like this made me flip
It was a bummer haha
Alain to this day is still my favorite rival character which is why it infuriates me that they treated his comeback so horribly. Alain himself is the Kalos champion and his charizard in it’s mega form gets curb stomped by Leon’s charizard, just regular charizard. A golden opportunity to see mega charizard vs gigantamax charizard, and even that was wasted.
This episode should’ve been exclusively build-up. After the opening ceremony, Alain tells Ash what he’s been up to since they last saw each other, and they wish each other luck in their coming matches. Next episode, Alain goes down like a champ instead of getting destroyed.
I 1000% agree with this.
I really feel *THIS* has been one of the main things robbing a lot of Journey’s battles of the impact they should have. Because Journeys rushed so many things and has to multitask so much, we now tend to have plot buildup and character development getting crammed in the same episodes as major battles. And this ultimately takes away from both ends. The Alola League got it right. It gave the league hype up an episode all to itself instead of cramming it with the battle Royal. This allowed both to fully shine.
If they had given Alain his own episode to battle Leon, we coulda gotten way more character interaction here and a far better battle by next episode.
@@TimG57867 example would be ash-greninja not existing in journeys at all
No Alain GOES down like a pathetic fodder, atleast in front of Ash
I don’t know what’s worse Alían comeback or Ash Greninja losing to Alains Charizard 😂
Def the comeback. Greninja put up an EPIC fight
I completely agree, if Tobias would’ve gotten destroyed that would’ve been a much bigger boost in credibility without giving a main rival the slap in the face. I guess they just don’t want to give Tobias a third Pokémon
I'm still waiting for his other four

3:49 "sooooo, yeah." - Professor Alex Silver. This is something I never expected you to say since you always talk like a scientist lmao
XD
Honestly, everyone knew that they wouldn't let him win, but come on he literally felt like a punching bag for Leon, and I had the same reaction, why didn't he use Thunderpunch? it would have done really good damage, coming from a Mega, ik Leon used 2 super effective moves, but that doesn't justify him winning like that, Greninja used a ton of water shurikens and they didn't take Charizard down. Seriously Alain did not deserve this.
But now that I think about it, people were mad about Ash losing to him, and now they're mad about him losing.
@@pringle409 they also fought while in their base forms.
I'm surprised you kept your smile up for this one professor. I was just sat there in disbelief at Charizard's loss. I wasn't angry just disappointed that after a string of amazing episodes, Journeys hit us with another Journeys moment of horrible execution of fanservice. Especially after XY had okay to great returns so far with the other important characters. We all knew he'd lose, but it's sad to see a powerful character like Alain get treated like Trevor to boost up the power of someone who didn't need that much of one.
I really dont like the pushing that leon is a powerhouse among the champions. He just isnt. He doesnt compare to Cynthia who has given a generation PTSD and scared god knows how many Black and white players, steven has always felt tougher, and I would argue Gen 1 Blue is hard due to Gen 1 memes. I think Iris could probably be harder too? Leon just doesnt deserve all the hype he gets man
Hopefully he gets some more fleshed out battled soon
Leon has a way better team for competitive battling, steven and Cynthia are basically scientists whereas leon treats battling like a sport it's what he loves to do whereas steven just straight up quit. The big difference is that leon is in a much easier game, if we're judging champions by which one is the hardest ultra moon hau has a fully ev trained perfect iv team, so he'd win but are you going to say that hau is the strongest champion? Hell no
Nah,leon is a great champion
I really hope Alain and Ash interact more in the upcoming episodes because right now, it seems like they only brought him back to lose to Leon.
Well this video was still pretty great and I love it
Hope y'all are having a great day
It makes sense that Chestnaught lost to an acrobatics from Rillaboom because Chestnaught is a grass and fighting type and both of those types are week to flying type moves, such as acrobatics.
I agree it makes sense from a game perspective but usually Pokemon can take more attacks in the anime
I realize the reason why I don’t feel much about Mega Charizard going down considering his track record. Is because of the same can happen to Ash Pikachu who had a just as good if not better track record against powerful Pokémon, can still get disrespected.
Then it can easily happen to anyone else powerful Pokémon.
Also I will admit. A small petty part of me is happy, because I was so salty when they had Ash lose.
I'm liking the dark and creepy music when Charizard fainted. 😂😂
Keep it going prof👍
Thanks!
They could have at least made Leon use all three Pokémon. The fact Alain only took down one and lost without ever facing Leon’s last Pokémon is extra sad. Makes one wonder why Alain even was included in the master 8
Regarding the battle, I feel like Alain has, to some extent, been getting disrespected a bit too much, despite how understandably upset some people are about how it turned out. When you consider game logic, it makes sense as to how the battle played out [at least, for the most part]. I expected Leon to pull through with a victory. But, much like many other people have, I also expected Alain to put up a good fight. In my opinion, that's exactly what he did, even if the battle between both Charizard's was kinda short-lived [understandably so due to the episode reaching its end + game/anime logic].
Alain bringing out a Malamar was a bit unexpected, though I do respect Alain for giving it the opportunity to show what it can do against Leon's Charizard [despite it being short-lived]. In any case, Alain's Charizard's victories over multiple mega-evolved pokemon is an unignorable feat, so it's only natural for it to at least hold its own against Primal Kyogre/Groudon, and Mega-Rayquaza [albeit he had steven's mega-metagross assist during those battles, and the battle with Mega-Rayquaza in particular was very short-lived]. I can admit that the battle would have potentially lasted much longer if there were more strategic plays being thrown out and so forth.
The lack of interaction Alain and Ash had was fairly concerning, and I definitely agree that there should've been a better reconnection between Ash and Alain, as well as the other champions. Maybe if the episode was more focused on that, the episode after that could've been entirely focused on the battle between Alain and Leon, thus giving them more time to show off the capabilities of their Pokemon, as well as the bond they share. Of course, that's just my take on it. Maybe we could get that in future episodes, but eh- who knows. We can only hope.
Interesting points! I appreciate the thought you put into them
I feel like since Alain was a mega stone researcher and a long time had passed since the Kalos league, it would have made sense if he used a Charizardite Y instead of X because he knows that Charizard can use dragon type moves, & that Mega evolving into X would put him at a type advantage against Leon's charizard.
A bit late to this one, Professor, but I think this can just be explained by the writers really wanting to oversell Leon’s skill level as compared to Ash. I.e. the guy that Ash spent multiple episodes to beat but failed is the guy that Leon can curb stomp in literal seconds.
Fair point (unfortunately haha)
I knew Alain was going to lose, but I expected some head to head clashes with Leon complementing Alain before giving us a champion finale.
I think Alain’s mega charizard losing to Leon’s base form charizard was meant to show how strong Leon’s charizard is
Yup, definitely agreed there, I just wish it was handled better
Thank you for all your hard work! I just finished watching sun n moon and I began masters on the Pokémon tv app! I’m a little behind but catching up! I just got to when ash caught gengar
I like your content. Keep it up
Thanks!! Will do :)
You know, they actively chose the brackets for this tournament, someone sat down and thought this was a good placement for him, as if lance couldn't have been their instead, or iris who ash has already battled. Also disappointed that they sent even 6v6 out of the gate, I know the conferences didn't either but those were a couple hundred people, this is supposably the top 8 trainers in the damn world and they can't even show their full strength out of the gate, to me that doesn't make any sense.
One way this could've been made better, just have one episode for the ceremony then start battles the next episode, hell ash has meet most of the people, I'm more than sure they could've easily drummed up some wholesum dialogue between them and this time actually have alain speak to him
Agree with everything you said. Also it's a shame that Journey's went from 4 outstanding episodes - 1. Lillie and fam meets Mohn 2. Alola champion acknowledgement, 3. Catching Regis (doesn't compare to the other 3 but still better than 115) 4. Paul returns episode.
To this abysmal episode
@@sarangadas4020 honestly, I don't know why he needed to go through rankings, I might be remembering wrong but weren't region champions supposed to start in the masters 8 to begin with, I'm not saying anything wrong exactly happened just that if what I said was the case then either ash was oblivious, writers forgot, or ash just didn't care

I would've liked Alain to wreck Diantha and become Kalos champion :(
I was wondering if this thing would happen to Greninja too
Let's hope not XD
Leon is protected by a lot of Plot armor
Yup lol
I didn't mind him losing. it's just the way his mega charizard lost so quickly.
The issue to me is that ever since Sun and Moon 6 on 6 battles rarely happen.
Heck even 3 on 3 barely happen in Sun and Moon.
The league had only one 6 on 6 AFTER the league technically.
And this battle felt waaaaay to short.
The opening ceremony happened and went into the first match so fast.
And the battle just was too short.
Ash should have talked to Alain because they didn't even exchange a single word to each other.
Besides that, the battles for the MASTER 8 really should be 6 on 6 (I know that would be a lot of them, but if there's ever time to do a 6 on 6 tournaments it would be a league filled with champions).
Not really true, 6v6 battles rarely ever happen in this entire series.
The only exception to this is Hoenn and Sinnoh, but even then we only got about 3 or 4 full battles.
I
Truth be told 6v6's weren't that common in the anime
In the OG series we had 3 being Ash vs Drake, Gary and Harrison
In Advanced we had three with them being Ash vs Tyson, Morrison and Katie
In DP we had three with two Ash vs Paul matches and one against Tobias
In BW we had one with Cameron
In XY we had two Ash vs Alain and Sawyer
In Sun and Moon we had one against Kukui
Although it may not seem like it 6v6 matches don't happen alot at most will get two in a tournament
Lack of full battles has always bothered me in the show :/ I get that it's pricier to animate though
@@langadube9611 let’s be real, 6v6 battles are not even common in the games! Full battles are very rare in Pokémon
@@ProfessorAlexSilver you know what’s funny, full battles are not even common in the games. You only usually get the rival ans the champion.
The fact that they established Leon as the undefeated champion really just gives them the ability to have him sweep anyone. Once a character is established as "undefeated" it just always feels like a cop-out to me.
Yes, especially when they don't show how he got there. With Alain, we've seen his journey, how he became stronger with every battle, but with Leon, they slapped Plot Armor, and said done
It’s really frustrating to me he’s just a random, no history with anyone, no appearance in any other series, no connection with anyone Cynthia should have been champion
@@kennymccormick2370 I’m convinced he’s been in the m8 for quite some time but we just never saw him battle onscreen which just makes this bad defeat against Leon completely unacceptable
This guy didn’t even get an episode of his own reuniting with Ash, telling him what he’s been up to since the Kalos days and that he’s been in the m8 and to add on top of that he literally came back in this recent episode didn’t get a chance to talk with Ash and he got nerfed by Leon overall probably the most disrespectful return to have occurred for a important character I’m still 😠
@@thatgirl9532 Leon has history though. The Darkest Day Arc and Episode 100 went into his character. Even Pokemon Evolutions did something with him. So he's definitely someone with a history. @@amarvax3442 I am talking about before this series not in this current series he has no history

I had a feeling I was calling this as it was gonna go this badly when they revealed the lineup & tourney format. Just because the masters tournament trainer lineup finally revealed of who's participating in it, it could just all be in vain if we don't get to see the versus pairings that we all wanted. Since the tourney rules for the Masters Tournament is single elimination format (i.e. meaning that it is in knockout rules), that meant it'll be the 1st round with 4 VS Pairings, and then it'll move to the Semi-Finals with 2 VS Pairings, and then it will lead last to the Finals last remaining pairing (which we all knew it was gonna be ash vs leon); meaning all the other fights were gonna go one way or another. And in this case it went badly as so many people hated the pairings;
Pokemon Journeys, once again you are a hit-and-a-miss season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I’ve got a few things from this battle.
1. I like the fact that they has Rillaboom and it’s Gigantamax form, proving that Leon doesn’t have just one Pokémon in his arsenal that can pull off this gimmick.
2. Pacing after Rillaboom vs Chesnaught was way too much. That Charizard battle lasted only 36 seconds. Why?
3. If they wanted to feature Alain in this series, they should have done it earlier in the series like how Iris was. Put him in a battle against ash, show development, then feature them in the tournament later.
Well it’s possible he may have been in the m8 for quite some time before Ash but idk why it took them this long for him to return only for him to get easily booted out really stupid
I would have liked to see Alain battle someone else before the m8 battles happened
I can't believe that mega Charizard took a ton of hits from Pikachu and ash Greninja combined in xy, and then got one shotted in journeys 😭
As u said there could have been an interaction also b/w Steven,Ash and Alain like their journey or simply a greeting. What the f is that nod😑
Nod is minor, definitely would've liked more
They should have gone with a different route for the Masters 8 tournament.
Round 1:
Iris vs Lance (This gives Iris a chance to prove her capabilities as a dragon master against the strongest of all dragon type specialists)
Leon vs Diantha ( Because why not)
Alain vs Steven ( This match will give us a conclusion to their previous bout in the mega evolution special and it definitely makes more sense than having Leon face off against Alain)
Ash vs Cynthia (This battle has been foreshadowed for over a decade now and Cynthia was the champion that helped and taught Ash the most during his adventures. Also, I don't wanna see that Garchomp taken down by any pokemon other than Ash's Infernape. Let's be real here, by beating Garchomp it will prove that Ash's Infernape has surpassed Flint's Infernape and then it all comes full circle.
Round 2
Leon vs Iris (Because I don't wanna witness another battle between Lance and Leon)
Alain vs Ash ( Just want to see Ash-Greninja make a surprise return and redeems itself by finally defeating Alain's Mega Charizard X)
Final Round
Leon vs Ash ( The main reason for this series and the outcome of this battle could define Ash's future for the next season)
In all honesty, the writers of pokemon have made a lot of missed opportunities like not letting Ash catch himself a Mudkip, Absol, Weavile, Flygon etc. Squirtle and Gible should have evolved along with other few.
A few pokemon characters from the games could have helped the series to further itself in my opinion
Silver could have been Ash's johto rival that defeated him during the johto league. Way better than a random trainer named Harrison
Brendan and Wally would have made better rivals for Ash during his hoenn days.
Calem could have made the Kalos league more exciting since the league as a whole was rushed and underwhelming until the last two battles which saved its reputation.
Despite all these flaws, Pokemon will always be the number one franchise for me.
i completely agree
Absolutely, if this is all we get out of Alain, he should've been replaced by Tobias
Here's to hoping that we will get more out of Alain
There is nothing we can do and that's the saddest thing of all...
The fact Tobias never returned is such a Tobias move lol
Hahaha good point
1:13 Well the opening ceremonies did confirm that Alain is now working as an excavator for mega stones so he's working towards something.
To me, that's more of confirmation of what we've already known he does. He debuted as a stone hunter.
1:07 there you go folks. That shows you how overrated alian is. The show’s strongest trainer who lost to a kalos E4 member. Who needed help to beat lysandre. Who almost lost to ash greninja (what are ash greninja’s feats again?). Who didn’t become kalos champion, meaning he lost to an E4 member again or diantha. This is the guy who was supposed to have a close match with Leon the man who bodies champions? Alian is the anime’s strongest trainer ? He wasn’t even the strongest in XY. The alian bais is real lol.
He lost to the elite four member at the start of his journey, by the end of that miniseries he absolutely obliterated malva. Ash Greninja is the second coming of kalos greatest hero and nearly defeated diantha so I would argue that it's pretty impressive
@@ProfessorAlexSilver with all due respect your quote in the video was that he was the strongest in the anime. Being impressive and the best are 2 different things. Like I said and the anime has established if you win the league you have the right to Challenge the E4 and champion. Alian is not champion so he either lost to an E4 member or to diantha. After he beats ash greninja he needed help to beat Lysandre’s Gyrados. There was never a point where alian was the best in the anime. That was my point he wasn’t on diantha’s level. I feel people blow alian’s feats out of proportion. He beat 10 megas 1 of of them belonged to anyone noteworthy. Leon beats champions. Champions. I understand being upset at his return because of his character development in the story but to be upset that he was destroyed by the man who literally bodies champions is just a bias take. Professor I love your videos but to say alian was the best in the anime is a giant stretch. Professor even you have to admit Leon is leaps and bounds ahead of alian.
I had the same reaction that you had at 0:21
Lol I think many of us did ahah
On the one hand I dislike the fact ash didn’t get his deserved revenge on Alain
But on the other SEEING THIS MANS DOWNFALL MADE ME SMILE
It's meant to showcase the power of Leon, and it did just that. Leon has never lost a battle, even against the other champions who frequently challenge him. They could have shortened the first battle and gave charizard more time though.
I don't mind him losing, just how it was done
But it could have been anyone else. They should have known what people would expect after bringing Alain back, especially with Greninja returning recently.
It was a letdown, but the theory I have heard was that this was the writer's way of apologizing for Alain & Mega Charizard X beating Ash & Ash-Greninja... The only problem was it was to *another Charizard.*
The Chesnaught was actually impressive & a good callback to Marin (Who I'm glad got some air time) & her Chespie. But the Malamar? That was a mistake. Only the Metagross or Tyranitar made sense in terms of a callback to Alain's team here.
That being said, Tobias instead of Alain would not have worked. It probably would have made it worse... Think about it: Leon's Charizard sweeping 2-3 Legendaries? The outrage, & the hatred towards Charizard, overall would probably be worse.
Perhaps Paul & Alain swapping places with Paul in the Master's 8 & Alain being the "tutor" on how to beat the Master's 8 aces (With Alain having Charizard & Metagross, so he could easily have Garchomp or Gyarados too to add to the Mega Master lore) would have been the better decision. Paul isn't known for gimmick & is still growing in strength, so him losing to Leon would have made more sense.
There’s literally like 5%-10% of the community that still hold on to the grudge of Ash-Greninja losing to Mega Charizard X and Alain. I’d say around like 95% or 90% of fans have moved on after 6 years…
They got real lazy here
Actually....that makes a LOT of sense. Not competing in a competition like this feels more in character for Alain (he's too busy with Mega research and finding stones) than it does for Paul (he competed in 4 different Leagues, but a world wide tournament is too "flashy?" come on).
Alain adding a Garchomp to his team actually makes sense too. Sycamore has one, and he's battled one twice before. He probably recognized the power of the species and got one.
Then we could have Leon beat Paul, but Paul gets to show off how he came prepared to deal with Charizard, only to be thrown off guard when Leon uses G-Max Rillaboom instead. It throws his whole strategy out the window, but he improvises, adapts like he does, and puts up a good battle before losing.
This makes WAAAAAAY more sense!
Good video
It would have been cool if the Malamar he used was the same one that tried to take over Kalos before.
It would make a lot of sense considering he’s used Weavile before (who’s seen a LOT of times with the Team Flare grunts).
All I wanted was to see Alain's Mega Charizard X vs Leon's Gigatamax Charizard, instead I got one of the most disappointing fight in the anime.
There were a lot of other characters that could have been brought back.
Paul for one could have made a return here. Instead of his training battle loss it would have been ok to see him lose here to Leon.
Brandon could have been another option with a new team of Regis that would have made Leon look stronger.
Tobias losing to Leon would have also done the same. Seeing Leon one shot Darkari, Latios and maybe Cresselia would have established his strength since Ash couldnt do it. Also Ash had mentioned earlier to Goh about Darkrai being a strong battler so this could have been tied to that.
Wallace was another option. Him being a former champion makes him strong enough for the 8 and the battle would have been better than the largely offscreen one he had with Ash.
The only possible saving grace would be if Leon defeats his next competitor in the same way, to establish that he is just crazy strong.
Brandon & Tobias would have both been perfect ones to get beaten
I think establishing how much of a challenge Leon is going to be when Ash faces him is very important, but I think they could’ve done that differently. If you ask me, what would’ve been more satisfying was to see Allen’s mega Charizard fight on even footing for a little while, start to fall apart about midway through the battle, then struggle to back get up and succeed close to the climax and attempt a final blast burn only for Leon’s Charizard to tank it easily then go for the finishing blow. I hope the rest of the masters eight has more satisfying battles.
This battle is what I was concerned about if any old Ash rival was brought back for the PWC. (Like Gary, before his return episode, I couldn't see him being brought back as one-off fodder. He always had a recurring role when brought back briefly. And no doubt Paul would've provoke a similar fandom reaction to what happened to Alain. Heck, I'm not sure if Tobias would've been a better option; if cause legendaries would've cause more questions about JN's power-scaling [and make his placement in Masters feel cheap].)
That said, I don't think they're fully done with Alain yet. I think he'll likely be yet another rival giving Ash his support in some way, like Paul and Gladion. And considering he's a Mega specialist, and Ash has Mega Lucario... He could be the final key to Ash matching Leon in strength.
Looks like Alain had a CHAMPION time!
😭
I was a little disappointed with this battle. I wasn’t surprised, just disappointed… be that as it may, can we appreciate the fact that Alain was the only member of the Masters 8 who was NOT a regional Champion? He also has no game counterpart, like any of the others! He should get points for that!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣 the humor is A1 Professor lol
In my opinion, Lysandre's key stone and Mega Stone was definitely stronger than the current one....
Yes
@@eljordinio7647 another fool just watch lysanders mega gyarados
@@eljordinio7647 yea resisting both alains charizard thunder punch and pikachu electric atacks thats not strong thats busted
@@eljordinio7647 stop defending the key stones where busted thats all
They had to sack the non champion to show Leon's Strength. If Cynthia loses before leon I'm going to be mad
Iris beating Cynthia would be insane haha
While I do think the battle was anticlimatic, I think how it went down makes sense. Chesnaught and Malamar are obviously newer additions to Alain's team and don't have as much experience as his Kalos league team, and it seemed that Alain chose them for strategy rather than just pure power. And the fights between the two charizards also make sense to me. Leon's Charizard is much older and experienced than Alain's Charizard and managed to nail two super effective hits (ancient power and dragon pulse) right on target. Even in mega form, getting hit point blank with two super effective hits is going to hurt especially from a charizard that's arguably much stronger and experienced. I do think they definitely could have had the fight last longer and not be so one sided, the events of the actual fight and how Alain loses checks out to me.
They may be older mons -- it's hard to tell since so much of his previous capture history is unknown
@@eljordinio7647 I mean, Leon held his own against Eternatus ALONE, whilst Alain either had other people help him take out that legendary (i.e Groudon and Kyogre and even Z2 50%, if you take this into context), or got clapped in a matter of seconds (i.e Mega-Rayquaza)
It feels more like Alain didn't have as much time to train these new kalos additions as he did with his actual kalos team which included mons from older regions. Seriously, Alain's Bisharp would have clapped Rillaboom without too much fuss. Mega Charizard should have fought more yes although replacing blast burn with what seems to be flame charge seems to be a big blow. Chesnaught was ehh. Did decent and probably beats someone like Mr Rime if given the chance.
I was so disappointed is an understatement... if this battle was any indication for the other ones I will be devastated
I have high hopes for the Steven Stone battle
Yup
The Charizard that gave Ash so much trouble got one-shot by an older, more experienced one.
Ash and Alain Should’ve had a chance to talk to each other catch up mention Greninja mentoring Lucario and ashes adventures in Alola
Agreed!!
Thanks for this Video Proffesor Silver I am so glad you share your honest opinion with amazing facts... I am so disappointed to be honest... Why did they pick Alain for this? Tobias would be the right choice. This was pure character assassination and this made things even more inconsistent. That Mega CharizardX took many strong dragon moves by Freaking MEGA RAYQUAZA and gets KoED by a regular Charizard? it isn't even a dragon type... Writers picked Alain for this because they thought people were mad at him ... but No... people were made because Ash lost the Kalos league... this had nothing to do with Alain's character... what's worse there was nearly no interaction between him and Ash... I mean c'mon Alain became one of Ash's closest friends in the Kalos... Ash was so excited in the end of battle instead of getting shocked and get some lessons....so there wasn't even any pay-off for Ash's development.... then what was the point of this? ... *sigh* --- Edit I wrote this message before finishing the video... you even included Tobias there... This video made my day!
Glad you liked it! I wish it was more positive lol
Why does it feel like if Tobias had taken Alans place, there would have been a Mega legendary on the team, that wasn't one of the Eon duo.
That'd have been awesome
@@ProfessorAlexSilver
Though, instead people would likely wonder if Alan, like Paul, even was compeating instead. I can see fans getting mad at the announcement that Tobias stole somebody elses thunder again.
It’s just like the mega evolution special with that mega blastoise
Honestly, that battle was way more epic
With Leon's Charizard winning so easily against Alain's Charizard, it actually makes Ash's Pokemon look more weaker. Ash's Lucario lost to Greninja, who also lost to Alain's Charizard, and we know that Ash is most likely using his Journey Team to battle Leon, I just can't see any of Ash's Pokemon (besides Pikachu) holding their own against Leon or his Charizard.
Sure Greninja might be more powerful than he was during the Kalos League, but if Greninja got that much stronger without Ash, it hurts Greninja's Character. His whole journey was trusting and bonding with Ash to get stronger, but apparently just being separate from Ash makes him more powerful? If Lucario actually puts up a fight, it makes it more unbelievable that Lucario got that much stronger in a short amount of time.
Honestly I feel like Ash vs Leon will play out similarly to Ash vs Drake. With each of Ash's Pokemon beating Leon's other Pokemon until they reach Charizard where they give it their all too weaken Leon's Charizard before Pikachu can finally take it out.
Not really. Alain's only real threat to Ash is Charizard. Greninja may be stronger than his current team (depending on the matchup) possibly but will never believe Greninja is Ash's strongest Pokemon. There are Pokemon in his reserves that can take on Alain's Charizard.
This battle showed where Leon stands compared to him and Ash Vs Steven was to show that someone who beat Alain got beat by Ash, meaning Ash would ice him fast now.
Very possible :)
Nice 👌 video alex
Might be reading into things too much but it feels like this battle was originally supposed to be longer. Chesnaught vs. Rillaboom took up a decent amount of time and felt like a back and forth battle for the most part. But everything on from Alains Charizard coming out to it fainting was settled in a few quick knockouts. Instead of doing that, they could have extended this battle into the next episode and have Alains Charizard last longer. The result would be the same but it would at least give MCX some shine before going down. Definitely a head scratcher but hopefully Alain at least sticks around for awhile and talks with Ash.
I want Tobias to return to the Anime.
Same haha
I think what people don’t think about with Alain is that he relies on his charizard a bit too much maybe leaving his other Pokémon slightly undertrained. Without a doubt his charizard is powerful. But seeing as Leon is meant to be the strongest trainer ever it makes sense that Alain’s ace lost to his. Even Vs Ash, a lot of his other typically powerful Pokémon like metagross or tyranitar didn’t put up much of a fight and Charizard did the majority of the work. So it does look like Alain got wrecked easily but it does make sense considering that his most powerful Pokémon got beaten by supposedly the most powerful Pokémon owned by a trainer in the whole series and then the rest of his Pokémon got taken out easily since Leon clearly has a very well rounded team.
I think in many ways he's a victim of not being the main character just like Cynthia. Even though we've seen many of her Pokemon none of them have gotten any major exposure either
@@ProfessorAlexSilver True to some extent but we’ve got to see Cynthia’s Roserade and Kommo’o recently and they have all looked pretty decent and have never even got to see Cynthia in any official league battle scenarios. Alain pretty much only uses his other Pokémon when it’s absolutely necessary and we’ve seen him on his journey pretty extensively throughout Kalos. Given a lot of the story line was based around mega evos but still, it does seem like if he utilised his other mons more he would be much more formidable against trainers in the ranks of the masters 8. I guess the only way we’ll know properly is after seeing Cynthia battle her 3v3s as well.
That Malamar got done dirty, got hit point blank
Its unfortunate and mainly because they fit d ceremony and battle in 1 episode but i guess its also a way to show indirectly that ash is beyond alain's level now cuz we know the final fight is ash v leon and they only wanted to use the journeys team
If they were going to use a non-game rival for power scaling, then Tobias would have been much better. He's much less interesting, but would also have shown Ash's growth
Totally agreed, I think a lot of fans would have been happy to see him get beaten
I didnt watch the video yet but i feel alain was just made to show ash that leon is no joke and is the strongest for a reason
You should do a video on the complete history of ash's sceptile
Working on it!
@@ProfessorAlexSilver thank you soo much you just made my day
This match reminded me of when i play pokemon sword but against online players
Who else is here after Ash beat Leon?
Epic victory 😎
Alain gonna abandon charizard I already now he is gonna swicht to garchomp already.
Still think this should've been a reboot and have Ash meet Alain in a different way.
Anything would be better than what we got haha
I didn’t actually recognise him, but it baffles me that THIS GUY beat ASH’S GRENINJA
The only issue with the battle was it was too short, Alain's charizard could've got trashed longer. However, the way the battle went made sense narratively. Alain couldn't do anything to Steven and Leon is above all the other champions, of course Alain was going to get destroyed, it would've been bad writing if Alain was able to have a close fight with Leon. The way people are reacting is shows the reason they chose Alain, people overrate him greatly, they think hes one of the strongest trainers in the series when he isn't even champion level. Leon effortlessly beating him shows that he is truly on another level (as the series has shown/told us repeatedly) and now the people in denial are unable to keep coping.
Agree 100 percent
I personally agree but it’s aggravating to Alain fans alike and it makes me sad to see a “fan-favorite” character being a jobber and I was perfectly fine with him losing but somewhat bummed out of “how he lost”, I don’t hate as much unlike most but still saddens me to see this play out unfortunately!!! 😰
Alain>Leon by far
whew it was giving Yamcha energy how he got beat 🤧
They had the Ash vs Alain rematch with Greninja getting his revenge perfectly set up and they totally ruined it...
