How to removal and install the rear door panel video for the 5th gen 4runner sound system upgrade. This is a DIY audio upgrade with hardware and speakers purchases though crutchfield.com. It was over all a very easy process. I went with rockford fosgate speakers and they really sound great for being with the stock head unit. The Toyota 4runner sound system upgrade is very simple, yes there are kits out there, but this DIY is for a eighth of the price.

The secret to get these rear door panels on are to remove the 2 strips on the top of the back of the panel. Remove the strips, slide them into the channel, then the door panel snaps right on to those strips and snaps right in. I drove around without my rear door panels for a week until I figured out this trick. You guys will thank me
Dang! that really would have made it easier!
@@TRDJon I posted this in one of your earlier videos, was trying to help you out bro :)
Shoot did you ? I’m so sorry I forgot
That made it sooo much easier!!
Yessss!!
If you're just doing a speaker swap that doesn't require drilling new holes you do not need to remove the door panel. Just pull out the panel from the bottom without lifting it off and there's enough room to remove the old speaker and install the new one. Just make sure before popping the panel back that all the pop connectors are attached to the door panel - if any are stuck in the door pull them out and re-attach to the panel before you finish up. I just did it this way and it took about 10 minutes on each side. Super easy!
Thank you so much for posting this! I agree, the rear doors are the biggest pain. After watching this I was able to reattach my rear left panel. Please keep up the great work!
It’s such a pain! Thank you for your support!
I found that on reinstall, putting the cables back on before connecting the electrical connectors was easier. Thank you for the video.
you cut out the install of the panel. how did you line up the top edge.
Very easy take apart but you dont tell us how hard it is to put back and aligned the top
My (accidental) solution for easy installation of the rear panels was to break/cut off the plastic pointy tab around the top middle of the door... this is what makes it difficult to slide the channel into place and push down at the same time.
Honestly can’t figure out what purpose this tab serves after you have the 6-9 clips and 3 screws installed anyway.
I broke this piece does anyone know the part number for this?
This is what I just did today. Cut it half down, so it still goes in the square hole but goes on super easy afterwards.
Thanks
Dammit, you are right! I have been fixing speakers and I can't get the back panels back on. That's how I got here
I was also having a whole Lotta problems getting it over that lip of the window. the passenger side was easier.
2015 4runner ltd rear door handle replacement
If anyone is interested, you can disassemble the JBL 6.5" speakers in the back door and rear hatch , then desolder the tweeter assembly and the harness assembly from the OEM JBL speakers. This lets you use the JBL speaker frame (which appears to be fiberglass reinforced plastic) as a bracket with whatever 6.5" speaker you want. When it's time to sell the 4Runner, the OEM JBL speakers can easily be soldered back together. I'll be posting a review on Crutchfield in a few days with pictures and describing what I did. It will be under the Infinity Kappa 6.5" coaxial.
Did you post this? I didn't find anything on Crutchfield about it.
Based on other's comments about the pain installing the rear doors, I might just have the car audio shop sound deaden the two rear doors?!?
Completely up to you. They are hard but doable
Way to skip the hard part of reinstallation :/
year or generation of 4runner?
