I find it funny that the 4WD Challenge event's first prize car is a Subaru wagon... which are very popular in the state where the track is based (Seattle, WA)
This game was all I used to play as a kid. I still have both disks and the simulation mode disk still works and I still play it from time to time for nostalgia reasons.
My nostalgic memories just returned again. The crazy endurance race is just the thing that I cannot do on original PS1 (cause of restriction play duration since I was a child, well you know what does I mean 😅). But it works on emulator thanks to "save features (not a memory card)" which you can return in certain lap.
My favorite feature about GT2 was the bhp limitation. In the later installments, it was easy to win since any bhp was allowed. GT6 tried to fix this but failed since some cars break it. For example the SRT. GT2 was a ton of fun because you weren't overpowered.
I find the GT2 power limits very generous still. For a real challenge you need to lower the limit by another 25% in most races, and also use the appropriate type of car for the challenge.
The best 55 minutes i've spent in my life, i love the time and effort spent on this vídeo, all the research not only for the prize cars, but also all the colors that are possible to obtain these cars, you are incredible, i love this vídeo so much.
Time for my usual wall of text comment about things I can point out, or add to, or correct when wrong :P To note for the Tom's T020 / TRD2000GT combo. Whereas the TRD is Turbo, the Tom's is N/A. Which makes the Tom's more impressive in terms or real life mechanics :) (and useful in the NA tuned cup) Also to note, the Blue/Silver Race Modification for the 1997 MR2 GT-S was first meant to be for the TRD2000GT is it is its RM in GT2 demos. (It also had a standalone named Tsuchiya MR2, as it also was a GT300 race car driven by K. Tsuchiya) As for the Nismo 400R Prece"i"ding model, it also has 500rpm less in revs than the final one, with a little less power, but less power loss at high range. About the Demio, it's not the racing exhaust, but the ENTIRE turbo line of sounds. See, GT2 engines can have 2 sets of exhaust sounds. One for turbo cars, and one for naturally aspirated ones, and the game switches automatically depending on the aspiration type. And the Demio A-spec for whatever reason, doesn't have any Turbo sounds at all. Something to note, every engine sound has to have the 2 sets, so when a car doesn't use a particular engine's turbo or NA sounds, they are replaced with a tiny sound file with a straight line frequency sound in them. Hence the UFO. Ah this needs correcting from me. The unused Skyline 4-door Fujitsubo racing modification is NOT the Autech Nismo RM, but unused for the regular R33 Skyline GT-R 4door that you can buy in the used dealership at Nissan. Internally, this RM's name is "n2r4r", the "r" of which mean RM, while the Skyline 4-door is "n2r4n" with "n" for normal. The Autech Nismo is "n2rnn" on the other hand, and a race mod for it would therefore be named "n2rnr". Ah right, about the 2 Concept Car variants (normal and LM) they are mistakenly programmed as MR, when in fact they are FR. About the dual Mugen CRX Pro.2 you can win. I believe personally that one of them (most likely the ont that's not in the 80s sports car cup) was supposed to be replaced by the unused Mugen S2000 that's present in the game's files. I slightly diagree with the palette swap about the Xanavi Silvia... but i'm being picky. It has a textured and not (albeit not very well made) 3D diffuser at the back, while the Daishin lacks the set of canards up front. A different hood shape (1 less 'blade' long) and an additional ducktail 'lip' spoiler on the boot/trunklid. But like I said, i'm nitpicking, I also like the Xanavi's colors more :p You say that the Arta Zexel R34 has less power than Unisia Jecs.... and well that's false. The Unisia Jecs and all R34 JGTC Skylines have 702hp (which is unfortunate as a lot of late game events are limited to 690hp.... It's the R33 Kure and Zexel that have less power. Speaking of the UJ R33, it has shorter ratios compared to other Skylines in its category, same for the 1998 Mugen NSX GT. I wonder why though... About the Escort and its weight, yeah it could... but it's within the regulations for the newly-created WRC category back then. The Group A was lighter however. Ah the Toyota Altezza LM... The very last non-hidden car I didn't know about in GT2 because I never got it. I learned of it around 2010 when I replayed GT2 through emulation haha As always though, nice informative video!
Thanks for the comment about the Autech Skyline in particular! You know, it's been so long since I properly sat down to play GT2, I forgot the normal 4-door Skyline existed. I have removed the racing modifications bit from the video now. :)
@@joelsilva64- Yeah, GT2 didn't have something in the code that represent power limiters so the cars are super powerful but with (i think) accurate torque figures that they could gather.
Both GT1 and GT2 have a lineup that's just stuffed full of that beautiful blocky 80s/90s goodness you simply don't get much of nowadays. The low-res graphics actually kinda help accentuate it too. People might look pretty with curves but I think cars look prettier without. Something locked in time that I think won't be seen again (as well as racing games being single-player collectathons first and foremost, which I miss too and also don't think will be seen again).
The ZZII has a special place in my memory. Oddly enough, not because of any race I won with it. I was doing a top speed run on the test course when I lost control in turn 3-4 (I don't remember how, this was about 15 years ago) and hit the wall. What came next had me laughing for hours while watching the replay over and over. Somehow the car defyied the laws of physics and started doing what I can only describe as a near horizontal cartwheel. It continued to do so for the ENTIRE. CURVE. It took about 2 minutes to make it's way around, only finally coming to a stop when the bank of the turn leveled out. Good times...
I remember the first time I won the 30th anniversary Camaro I went and grabbed my mom to show her as that was the car she was driving at the point. I was 4 years old lol.
The Toyota Altezza LM Edition became one of my favorite cars in GT2 since unlocking it for the first time when I was in high school. I had a lot of fun using the Nissan R390 GT1 race cars aswell. Though I think the prize car I got the most mileage out of was the Unisia Jecs Skyline GT-R. When I was a kid, I use to use that all of the time to grind for money.
The R390 GT1 Road cars could actually achieve a higher level of power (and higher top speed with some gear ratio changes) than the race cars however, with the race cars, you could take corners at higher speeds.
It was a great course to put cars through their paces too. The Speed 12 beyond being an amazing way to farm money is probably top 3 in how it performs on that track when tuned properly.
@@El_ACG I hope with a joypad :O Don't tell me you can race with the touch pad! (???) Anyway if i can add something to my previous message, the only things GT2 misses to be the perfect game are two: more real-life tracks (only Laguna Seca and a portion of Pikes Peak sigh....) and Swedish cars (Volvo/Saab), this would have been the fucking perfection!
Fell asleep watching another video and this video had just started playing before I woke up. The GT2 menu music threw me into a nostalgic trance in my dream.
I'm gonna answer this two year comment cause why not Recently been replaying gt2 for.. 20th time I guess... And I beat it with Demio A-Spec :D tough but fun
An interesting thing about the Clio is that the game show a F4R 2 litre 150 cv car, but in your garage it's always the K4M 1.6 16V with 106 "hrsprs"...
Wow. I thought I was the only one who still plays Gran Turismo 2...but I do hybrid cars sometimes, for some really interesting races. Gameshark codes make the game so much bigger, like being able to race Motorsports Land and the 30 and 80M radius tracks, or being able to race any car on any circuit. 45,000 HP in a 4WD [R]ZZII is not as easy as it may seem, but being able to drift-race any track (even the test track) like you were Ken Block is beyond joy.
I loved that game I played the hell out of it and got a nice glitch story- I’m an Mr2 fan my mom had one so I kept many mr2s in my garage and would tune them for fun. One time I managed a glitch that if I did it wrong all I’d see is a big tire on the screen and if I turned left or right I’d see my Mr2 on the screen. When I got it right the Mr2 would change from red to white the turbo gauge would just spin around and I’d be able to go anywhere from 2-350+ mph I could steer at that speed so I’d just kept along the wall. My buddy’s a witness we still talk about it till this day. Thanks for the vid make more. I got most of the hidden cars it was so fun!!
Aside from winning (mostly) iconic cars from races, there's something about checking the used japanese cars' catalogue each time you finish an event to grab some rare rides (2000GT, Nismo R32 GTR, STi 22B, RX7 RS-R '97, etc.)
The Dodge concept car from GT1 was pure gold. I won s many championships with its legendary handling. I can't recall if I won it in the GT2 License tests or not. Thanks for the awesome informative video!
We’ll stick with oversquare mid-engined cars and nominate Lancia’s iconic Stratos. This is a car with a 2180mm wheelbase. A Kia Picanto has a 2400mm wheelbase. The road cars had a modest 140kW but in full Group 5 trim, the Stratos was good for 420kW. The competition car was designed around one man, diminutive works driver Sandro Munari. In his hands, the Stratos won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1975, 1976 and 1977 amongst other big wins, but the car required such a skill level that many drivers tried and failed to master it. Björn Waldegård was about the only other factory hotshoe who could get to grips with the spiky Stratos. It wasn’t a lasting relationship though. He ignored team orders and beat Munari in the 1976 San Remo Rally and was promptly sacked. Driving a road Stratos is an exercise in commitment and throttle balance. It’s the only rear-wheel drive car I can think of where the back wheels toe out, so it has hyper-sharp responses on the way into a corner. Get on the throttle a fraction too quickly or back off sharply and you’ll be doing a lot of twirling. That rapid response from the rear suspension is balanced by dementedly slow steering at three and a quarter turns lock-to-lock. Its reputation is fully deserved
In all of my life, i wonder where the Stratos was given to when i finish ALL the game's races, even the event races on the dealerships. But since Lancia didn't had one, i always wondered where you can get it. Thou, i still don't like it was a 50/50 chance behind an endurance race.
The Playstation does not support Z-depth which is something that helps polygonal faces that are superposed to be properly arranged how they are supposed to be. To compensate, Polyphony Digital added a byte of data on each polygonal face that forces some "layer priority" for the game's rendering engine. Combined with the fact the PS1 doesn't support floating point precision, but instead integer (that's the reason why textures are warped when viewed at an angle, and well as the famous jitter when looking at objects) this means that the small square with the Ralliart logo texture is overlapping with the door panel behind it and depending on the angle, goes slightly behind, or slightly forward it. The flicker occurs because both faces most likely have the same layer priority to each other, and therefore can overlap like this. A solution to fix this would be to assign a higher priority to the logo and it wouldn't disappear :p This layer system is also the cause behind being able to see the wheels through the rear deck on cars like the Honda NSX, or Toyota MR2 when you turn.
your screen resolution makes everything look squished down flat lol. tip: most prize cars are very lackluster in performance. don't be sad if you can't get them all, because the garage is limited to 100 cars anyway. game is so fun however, I'm gonna run thru it all again :-)
I haven't played this game in so long. I wish I had played it more as a kid! For the random prize cars, would it better to just win a race, see what you get, then reset in order for a shot at the car you want?
The R30 racing skyline (won in the 80s car champ) is IMO the best car in races with 591 bhp cap (huge downforce and nothing beats it from 3rd gear up, wheelspin only on 1st gear with a bit longer gearing, low top speed of 300kmh so no test course tracks), the concept car LM edition is best for me at least, for NA tuned cup and the 542bhp limit international races, Unisia Skyline was used for Turbo tuned race on Test Course, due to high top speed (over 370kmh, beating the 180drag that goes around 350). And personally any uncapped race was dominated by the Escudo pikes peak edition (test course top speed 402kmh, although the 180 drag did 466, unbelievable handling, just looks ridiculous with that rear wing). Overall most of prize cars were useless, like the TVR speed 12 had unbelievable amount of wheelspin.
Watching this makes me wanna hook up my old ps2 and plug in the memory card 😆 all 250mb of storage and play GT2. So many classic cars. Love strolling thru the used cars to see what unique cars are in there.
I find it more enjoyable and satisfying to unlock hidden cars by winning races instead of making all cars available to drive so easily or buy them whether by in game credits or your money
32:00 finish the game three times, get always the Xanavi Silvia or Wedssport Celica, never the Momocorse MR2 and Trueno :o 35:00 never see the Cerumo Supra and Taisan Viper
Haha - with the GT300 cars at least, I was the opposite! It took me so long to get the Xanavi Silvia, I actually remembering questioning whether it was actually unlocked via a different championship. I was the same with the Taisan Viper though - that one took me ages as well.
Back before we had to wait weekly/monthly for "prize cars" and updates that could include new cars to the game (and not just blocked behind the "play-to-win" in gaming data)
21:47 This here is my most used car in the GT2 end-game because god, how much could I say of how I love Nissan Skyline R33. It's imo the best Skyline there is and the most beautiful one there is. Also, the understeer it bears is the great aspect of Unisia Jecs Skyline cuz it forces me to learn how to tune car for the first time in GT2 to make the car more oversteer-ish, as I love to drift during the race. A very hard trick, however it's possible to be done.
26:23 ANOTHER BEST CAR HERE, THE DRAG MASTER! I would be driving this car all day in tracks if it weren't for the terrible handling. However, I did try to beat some I-A cup featuring Red Rock Valley and manage to win the race! It's a great car for long track, but you can make up for the time loss in turning as you are 30 secs in front of everyone

Hearing the music alone brought back memories
26:42 this car blew my mind along with the other dragsters like the 180sx and the intrepid could be modified into one
Endurance races were always a gamble, not getting the car you wanted was annoying as hell haha
It's not just an "All cars" video, he explain what this car is, who drove it. Like the little story about race cars too
Wow, glad I stumbled upon this page, the menu music, the cars, so nostalgic and brilliant this game is. Subbed and thank you
Thanks for stumbling across the channel!
I vote an HD remaster. The graphocs could be as good as the opening FMV and i would be oversatisfied!
Very informative commentary that car nerds like myself thoroughly enjoy🤓 Respect the effort
The best 55 minutes i've spent in my life, i love the time and effort spent on this vídeo, all the research not only for the prize cars, but also all the colors that are possible to obtain these cars, you are incredible, i love this vídeo so much.
Thank you so much!
Time for my usual wall of text comment about things I can point out, or add to, or correct when wrong :P
To note for the Tom's T020 / TRD2000GT combo. Whereas the TRD is Turbo, the Tom's is N/A. Which makes the Tom's more impressive in terms or real life mechanics :) (and useful in the NA tuned cup)
Also to note, the Blue/Silver Race Modification for the 1997 MR2 GT-S was first meant to be for the TRD2000GT is it is its RM in GT2 demos. (It also had a standalone named Tsuchiya MR2, as it also was a GT300 race car driven by K. Tsuchiya)
As for the Nismo 400R Prece"i"ding model, it also has 500rpm less in revs than the final one, with a little less power, but less power loss at high range.
But like I said, i'm nitpicking, I also like the Xanavi's colors more :p
You say that the Arta Zexel R34 has less power than Unisia Jecs.... and well that's false.
I learned of it around 2010 when I replayed GT2 through emulation haha
As always though, nice informative video!
Thanks for the comment about the Autech Skyline in particular! You know, it's been so long since I properly sat down to play GT2, I forgot the normal 4-door Skyline existed. I have removed the racing modifications bit from the video now. :)
In 1999 JGTC the cars oficial HP NSX 470 ps, GT-R 460 and 480 ps, SUPRA 470 ps, only i dont know McLaren hp and diablo sv and 911 porsches.
But, i like of your comentary!!
I used to call the car the EEII, along with its sibling EEIII
Another great video, and as always awesome narrations by Thunder!
Thanks!
Awesome coverage for this guys!👌🏾
I remember the first time I won the 30th anniversary Camaro I went and grabbed my mom to show her as that was the car she was driving at the point. I was 4 years old lol.
Jeromy Williams 👌👌😄
The Toyota Altezza LM Edition became one of my favorite cars in GT2 since unlocking it for the first time when I was in high school. I had a lot of fun using the Nissan R390 GT1 race cars aswell. Though I think the prize car I got the most mileage out of was the Unisia Jecs Skyline GT-R. When I was a kid, I use to use that all of the time to grind for money.
The R390 GT1 Road cars could actually achieve a higher level of power (and higher top speed with some gear ratio changes) than the race cars however, with the race cars, you could take corners at higher speeds.
only in "Gran turismo all stars" Red rock valley track could make you filthy rich in the game.. love it when i got many TVR speed 12 to sells..
It was a great course to put cars through their paces too. The Speed 12 beyond being an amazing way to farm money is probably top 3 in how it performs on that track when tuned properly.
Still playing it today with ePSXe and 360 controller on my PC :) Incredible game, with lot of possibilities for car customization and settings!
Same with me, I keep playing it on my Samsung s9 with epsxe. I gotta admit it's actually really good on the phone screen
16:25 such a useful car I remember and gorgeous along with the regular version meant to be a cheaper alternative to the viper
When do you think you will do one on all the prize cars from GT3 and GT4
Fell asleep watching another video and this video had just started playing before I woke up. The GT2 menu music threw me into a nostalgic trance in my dream.
16:40 Ah yes, I remember being frustrated that I couldn't win against the Gt40 in this race.
I'm gonna answer this two year comment cause why not
Recently been replaying gt2 for.. 20th time I guess... And I beat it with Demio A-Spec :D tough but fun
@@ichigoanimeandnightcore2105 nice
16:05 fun fact that I found out, in the NTSC this car has a MR drivetrain, but in the PAL version it's classified as a FR
I never knew I wanted this video so much. Thank you for making it! It's pure bliss.
GT2 made love sports car racing especially Le Mans and Rolex 24
An interesting thing about the Clio is that the game show a F4R 2 litre 150 cv car, but in your garage it's always the K4M 1.6 16V with 106 "hrsprs"...
At 13:35 the styling reminds me of a coupe racing car in burnout 3.
The coupe 3. Had a blue color scheme too
The amount of cars this game added since Gran Turismo 1 is insane.
30:04 another car I never knew about only the blue in future versions
Also has way less hp and top speed than real car
well who knew somebody is more obsessed than me with this game !!
I still play GT2 and colin mc rae 2 on ps1 emulator
I'm subbing and liking just because I can only imagine how much time was spent in doing this video. Great work man!
Thanks!
33:44 never knew this and I love it
Yes! It's finally here! I've been waiting for this very moment!!!
I got most of the hidden cars it was so fun!!
god...the music...so nostalgic.
Good display!
Real Story: I beat the GT40 at the Historic Car Rome Cicuit with a Fiat Punto GT
HOW????????
@@JinteiModding Luck and skill :D
You're God
Vids or it didn’t happen jk lmao I wanna see that replay so bad omfg
I beat the GT40 with a Neon.....I'll try to beat it with a Punto.
Lancia stratos always scared me as a kid. I don't know, there's something unsettling with that car..
Was that the equivalent of the devil Z for you?
The other day I saw a Stratos and took a pic, never imagined I would find one here in Argentina lol
@@jadz684z not exactly, I think it was more of the car's jagged edges and unnatural appearance compared to its peers of the time.
Ooo yeah!! A new GT2 video from Matt!!!
Thanks Jeffry!
46:32 this viper it's my imposible wish
I would love to see a remaster of that game.
Thank you for this video!! I'm playing GT2 for the first time and it's useful to know how to win certain cars!
In all of my life, i wonder where the Stratos was given to when i finish ALL the game's races, even the event races on the dealerships. But since Lancia didn't had one, i always wondered where you can get it. Thou, i still don't like it was a 50/50 chance behind an endurance race.
5:07 the sileighty confused me as a kid like I know that’s a 240sx body but a Silvia front lol
That's because of the 180SX body parts being expensive in comparison to the Silvia ones
jorge enrique fajardo zavala sick
Thanks for narrating this! I won all of these events probably 30 times each!
1:26 why does the ralli art sticker on the door disappear
A solution to fix this would be to assign a higher priority to the logo and it wouldn't disappear :p
This layer system is also the cause behind being able to see the wheels through the rear deck on cars like the Honda NSX, or Toyota MR2 when you turn.
submaniac93 I love u
your screen resolution makes everything look squished down flat lol.
tip: most prize cars are very lackluster in performance. don't be sad if you can't get them all, because the garage is limited to 100 cars anyway. game is so fun however, I'm gonna run thru it all again :-)
I like it when you talk about the history of the JGTC cars.
That was all down to the narrator - Thunder from HG Central. Credit to him for those facts. :)
I.. I couldn't help myself.
Would you consider doing this for the other games in the series, though I know the prizes in 5 are a total dud
41:25
Correction: the "Calsonic" team (at least in name) no longer exists. The Calsonic brand was bought out by Marelli.
24:40 never seen this car in a game I grew up on wow
I haven't played this game in so long. I wish I had played it more as a kid! For the random prize cars, would it better to just win a race, see what you get, then reset in order for a shot at the car you want?
Thank You For Your Great Video ❤ It has brought back a lot of memories.😊
Man I spent ages getting that GT1. This was an awesome game.
This is still mind blowing for an original PlayStation game.
Awesome work man! Thanks for the video mate 👍
Great video with a great narration. Loved the "car facts and history" told on some of the models.
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
I completely forgot about the Autech GT-R sedan, now I wanna go play GT 2 again
32:00 finish the game three times, get always the Xanavi Silvia or Wedssport Celica, never the Momocorse MR2 and Trueno :o
35:00 never see the Cerumo Supra and Taisan Viper
Haha - with the GT300 cars at least, I was the opposite! It took me so long to get the Xanavi Silvia, I actually remembering questioning whether it was actually unlocked via a different championship.
I was the same with the Taisan Viper though - that one took me ages as well.
Remember the 911 porsches carrera or rsr participation GT 300 in times 1998 and 1999 with: STP taisan porsche (26)and NineTen 911 - (910), (24).
Back before we had to wait weekly/monthly for "prize cars" and updates that could include new cars to the game (and not just blocked behind the "play-to-win" in gaming data)
"Play to win"?
I love how i already got all the cars here during my first gameplay about 2 years ago, but come back anyway because nostalgia
I ever WON all Gran Turismo games except GT5 even without getting all licence gold medals.
