If anyone was a real punk it was Chris, a total disregard for the fashions and labels of the music business, always going on his own uncompromising way. RIP.
Stranded...I must have played it a thousand time...more......rough, course, three chords...perfect!! RIP to Chris Bailey, who sang one track that, to me, is immortal.....and quedos to the boys of The Saints!....especially the enigmatic , sun-glassed drummer, Ivor Hay
Sad that they weren't able to get back to Australia before the split. The UK public at that time thought every punk band was like the Sex Pistols (spiky hair, leather trousers, safety pins, gobbing) and the Saints were too smart and had too many influences to fall into that trap. Vale Chris, you did well. And props to Molly Meldrum for asking good questions instead of the lowest common denominator.
@@theselector4733 Of course it's not a one dimensional genre, at least in the sense that a diversity of bands would claim to be "punk", but the Jam were not in any way a punk band. They were a "new wave" band for want of a better term, with a strong Mod influence, both musically and visually. I'm sure Paul Weller would agree.
STRANDED IS THE ONLY SONG YOU NEED FROM THESE BOYS. ALL OTHERS JUST SOUND THE SAME BUT WITH DREADFUL HORNS AND JUST NOT THAT GREAT. STICK TO THE ONE HIT, KIDS. MAGA
The sneer from Chris after the lame stranded gag from Molly Meldrum is priceless.
Yeah fuckin cool
RIP Chris, a legend

Not too bad for country boys...Much love!
1:26 ''It depends on Shrimpton'' in reference to Countdown producer Michael Shrimpton. How that went over Molly's head is anybody's guess....

Many UK punk bands didn't look like that at all: The Stranglers, Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Clash etc.....
@@theselector4733The Jam weren't a punk band.
@@annaforehan7784 Punk's not a one dimensional genre. Obviously they had many different influences, but definitely had a Punk sound in the early days.

They may not have considered themselves punk, but he certainly interviewed like a punk rocker… RIP Chris
Best band from the punk era, without a doubt.
Wow!!!!! He says that punk does not exist anymore!!!!! In 1977.........!!!!!;
Exactly, '77 w/ the Ramones leave home & then rocket to russia... Also Skrewdriver's all skrewed up,
Looked to me that he didn't want to be there. RIP.
