I played with my kfactor 95 for 12 years until the internals went bad. I like your switching rackets idea. Will try that out.

    One thing to add:
If you see yourself using the same frame for a long time (5+ years), go ahead and buy spare grommets, and for my fellow scrapers, buy bumper guards. They are often sold together as a set.

Nick has all good points as usual. One thing about the copoly strings though is that, if the 'nicks' (pun intended lol) in the crosses are deep enough that they prevent the mains from moving/sliding against the crosses with light force, then this will significantly change the playing characteristics of the string such that you might as well be using a very stiff, tightly strung strings. The deep notches in the crosses will effectively eliminate the 'snapback' of the mains and thereby reduce the spin potential, and the overall stringbed will feel way more solid, as if you're playing with a plyboard.

In a lot of cases it’s a Change but not necessarily an Improvement. 😂

I play with a frame until it is worn out. It's a gradual thing and can go unnoticed to some degree. I was playing with a frame for several years and I got a new spare and the difference was quite stark. The one I was playing with was so much softer and less crisp. So I always keep that in the back of my mind knowing that they don't last forever but they can last for quite some time.

Me too. I intend to keep using it. I put my money into strings (Technifibre HDMX) and tournament and league fees🤣

Golf equipment is exactly the same. It’s all marketing now.

About the lifespan: personally I break strings with 18-20h of hitting (18x19 TFight 305). My brother breaks with 6-7h (16x20 Vcore 95). I rotate between string jobs. Why? If I rotate evenly (on practice per day), I may risk breaking both strings in the same match/tournament. I'm also a bit of a nerd, so I know exactly how many hours/string jobs my racquets have, how many hours my shoes were used, etc. Notion is a great tool to keep track of that. Btw, I differentiate the racquets by using dampeners with different colors.
Just had an issue with a crack on the throat of my TF305, when it had barely 70 hours of play time and was restrung only 4 times.

Nick, why didn't you mention replacing the plastic bumper guard atop the frame when it gets worn down from scraping the ground? That can prevent damaging the frame and prevent breaks. Also healthy to replace the grommets after dozens of restrings. Your thoughts?

So, in order to increase a racquet's lifespan is to play with it less? Thanks for the insight :-I

Nick - I am a rec player and keep 3 of the same racket in my bag at 3 diff tensions (1 tight, 1 normal, and 1 loose) and the "normal" one I use 80% of the time unless I'm in light or heavy conditions. So..I should get another one for 2 normal tensions to rotate?

Quick note about stocking up on your favorite racquets. Remember to also stock up on Grommet replacements! Grommets are super cheap, usually $10-15/set while the racquet is in production, but once they move to the next model they stop making grommets for the previous one. I've found one guy out there who sells grommets for older model racquets charging around $100 per set because he KNOWS for people to keep using their racquets, they need grommets as those wear out very easily.

A question I’ve always had which I cannot find the answer to is why have all the manufacturers seem to have a cartel like price fixing structure in place. I doubt this is an unspoken agreement. Does anyone know?

I wish I had the Wilson ceramic frames from the late 80s-early 90s. They had a really nice to feel to them.

Thanks for your insights. I've found that this is even worse with shoes. I have a wide (2E) foot, and so my options are limited. I buy 2 or more pairs at a time. I ran a few marathons in my 20's, and I remember having a different pair for each one. The iterative changes in toe box size, heel to toe drop, etc would sometimes render the next iteration of a shoe utterly unlike the past one of the same "line" (or at least different enough that it mattered).

Good video and glad you mentioned the stringing and play aspect. A frequent player would have a difficult time playing with the same racquet over a 5 year span. My racquet is over a year old and recently bought the same one and the difference is noticeable. The stiffness also goes considerably down after a while which contributes to the feel
