Here in Brazil we already had a Ford - VW partnership in the early to mid 90's, called AutoLatina. It went from Fords wearing VW badges to Escorts that were basically a VW Gol (like a mini Golf) with a different skin, and VW Gols with smaller Ford engines (we used to have a "popular car" scheme that required engines to be smaller than 1000cc, and VW only had engines upwards from 1600cc)

Unfortunately the Volvos also got a lot of Ford parts, because they were built on the same platform. They also brought the unreliable French PSA diesel engines to Volvo, which weren't nearly as good as the Volvo 5 cylinder diesel engines. In hindsight it was not good for Volvo to be owned by Ford.

Here in South America there has already been an alliance between Ford and Volkswagen in mid 1990's named 'Autolatina', where the two brands shared one or two platforms and engines for their vehicles, as in the case of the Ford Orion (basically an MKV Escort (UK model) sedan) and the Volkswagen Pointer/Logus, and many more projects with that particular and more visible 90's design which have never seen the light. The Escort XR-3 also equipped the VW AP engine ('high performance' 1.6l and 1.8l) which was seen first in the Gol and Golf, of course with several modifications throughout time.

It's definitely a tariffs thing. VAG owns MAN and Scania, and the Amarok is popular, so they know how to make trucks. And VW has plenty of experience in making vans and Transporter trucks with flatbeds and boxes.
I don't know if there will be an engine share pool, as they are both two of the best modern engine producers in the world. However, I wouldn't turn down either of their 2.0L engines. I could see VW fans excited about access to the 2.7 ecoboost to replace some aging options in their 3.2 -3.6l displacement range. Ford having access to the far newer lineup of VW mid size diesels is also attractive (the AJDs are expensive and showing their age). I see there being a replacement for the Escape/Kuga, and VW access to Ford's large commercial vehicles, hybrid tech, and transmissions instead of sourcing so many automatics. Ford now has access to some of the clever small motors from VW too, like the 1.5l with the cylinder deactivation. It'll be interesting to see which new 1.5l is more successful, even if 3 cylinders sound WAY better than a typical four (3-6-12 sound profile baby.) There are a multitude of possibilities, but the only thing that has been covered is that Ford will build a next gen mid-size pickup and heavy van for VW, and VW will produce light commercial vehicles for Ford. An R8 with a Coyote as a base engine would be sick though.
Ford maybe provide engine for VW body, VW provide engine for Ford body. Either way. Vise versa. That's what I think you see if its global or us market. All we can do is wait and see and try get insider info.

I actually don't think we will ever see a rebadge F150 in the U.S. Furthermore, Ford took a risk by bringing the Fiesta to the U.S. and VW never bothered with the Polo or the Gol in the U.S. market, but VW was right. The price delta between the Jetta and the Polo or even the Gol is too damn close for VW to even consider the idea of having a less expensive vehicle for the U.S. market, but that could change in the near future with Ford now not selling the Fiesta, Focus, Taurus, etc...
@Hans there is a small market for small cars in the u.s. ive seen a few smart cars around so if the polo came here a few would buy but i don't think there going to sell that well.

Diesel anything back in the US!!!! But yes a compact to midsize diesel truck can’t think of the VW one in Germany name but with construction trades increasing and the demand for capable pick ups with a decent power plant and increase fuel mileage is increasing. I’ve looked into importing one when I was doing construction
VAG and Ford did make the Ford Galaxy, Seat Alhambra and VW Sharan, but I don't think they sold those things in the U.S. (and they were kinda awful). VW did build their Crafter (previously LT) together with Mercedes' Sprinter, which are also considered quite awful. So I really wouldn't expect something amazing out of this, because in most cases it's just a matter of cutting costs on vehicles with a relatively small market... which doesn't mean they're gonna save on quality by default, but... usually it's the case. As for the EVs... as long as they're based on current Lithium Batteries, I'd dive trough every scrapyard to get a beat up piece of junk with a combustion engine rather than taking one of those. And to be clear: It's not it's not because of speed, sound, range or anything like that, I'm simply sick and tired of the marketing/politics around those things.
Ford is saying they are starting anew with quality. Unfortunately VW has had horrendous quality issues. I always loved VWs and Lord knows I've owned a lot of fords. These partnership deals happen whether we are ready or not. Not always bad but they never seem to last. I hope this time it brings us good vehicles; not with crappy parts or a car with "made on Monday or Friday" syndrome. Good luck guys.
Try to keep in mind... with VW also comes Porsche and Audi. Probably a very long shot at this point, but imagine if Ford were bright enough to slap an oval nameplate on the amazing Touareg TDI for America? They already have a very loyal fan base of diesel owners for HD trucks - why not light duty and SUV? I’d be interested in one for sure. Or how about borrowing some engineering and design from Porsche for the Mustang? Keep in mind GM has already indicated the Corvette will go mid-engine. Ford will want to compete with this I think. Why not leverage economies of scale at VW/Porsche to get to the finish line quickly, and at reasonable cost? Of course all this is pure conjecture on my part but who knows? Diesel Explorer would be a no brainer, would provide VW a way back into America with its brilliant 3.0 TDI, and would give Ford a very solid and well positioned advantage against others in the market while also providing justification for higher ticket pricing.
VW Already market trucks here in good Ol Blighty, mostly Diesel 3.0 V6 tdi and others in both double cab and single cab configurations, 2 and 4WD. These trucks are quickly becoming the most desired truck over the Ford Ranger in Britain

A new Volkswagen truck would be nice. Here en Denmark we currently have The VW Amarok witch is a really comfortable truck to drive. But seing something new from Volkswagen is always satisfying. And them partnering up with Ford again is for me ideal. I grew up with my parents always having VW’s and my brother always driving Fords so those car manufacturers are defenetly my go to But you mentioned a Ford running with a VR6 witch model was that in?
NEVER knew that there were Fords' running VR6 engines... what models? I think they need to do a new SMALL truck (kinda like the old caddy trucks) w/ a diesel engine. the small truck market exist here in the states but no one is feeding it. (with the loss of the original s10, ranger, isuzu, etc small trucks.) This mid-sized truck stuff killed off the good small trucks.
You can be lucky that you get a Volkswagen partnership, because Volkswagen owns a lot of other carbrands : Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bently, Audi, Porsche, Ducati, Seat, Skoda
ok, so with; 1 - new car sales tanking worldwide in the past year - watch this year ......., (since carmakers announced they have EV's in the pipeline) 2 - Ford making most of their corporation's profit through sales of highly profitable pick up trucks 3 - Ford with corporate debts of USD $222b, cannot afford to see pick up sales tank 4 - So they needed a partnership b/c they've not really done to prepare for EV's cars & pick ups (but tinker a bit) 5 - Seems like Ford needed a lifeline to avoid a "very bad" corporate outcome This is a smart strategy by VW, to get a better foothold into US markets (and share the costs of EV r&d) So its a dance of self-interest & survival (between two very unequal partners) It will be very interesting to watch how this plays out over the next 3 - 5 years

If the carbon build up is too high, CRC isn't going to do much. If you have a lot of miles on the engine and a carbon clean up is never been done before, get it done by a VW/Audi specialist or do it yourself if you are up to the task and have the tools and knowledge.
VW and Ford partnered up on the Sharan and Galaxy
Not sure if I am mixing partnerships, but weren't there Fiestas in the 80's with VW engines/transaxles?
I own an 05 GLI 1.8 T 02 M6 speed manual I'm looking at an 06 GLI 2.0 6 spd how are those 2.0t
Keep your mk4 ;)
Bring on the AMERANGER!
I think the VW Amarok would be a car that fits both continents. It is at least a very popular terrain pick up truck in the European military.
Sasquatch has been found and he's on RUclips!
Bad ass beard!! I will never cut mine again
HumbleMechanic does VW sell the Amarok in the US? We have the Ranger and Amarok in Australia, but they are both pretty average imho
No. And it’s a bummer that they don’t. It’s all about taxes
I hope it's a US release of the VW California or Microbus. At least a new Eos...
Just saw an article about heavy in EV which is no surprise
this just means that we gonna get a mazda BT-50/ford Ranger all over again
Which ford running with the great VR6?
I’m waiting on the video about catch can and carbon build up results. Please make.
VW Already market trucks here in good Ol Blighty, mostly Diesel 3.0 V6 tdi and others in both double cab and single cab configurations, 2 and 4WD. These trucks are quickly becoming the most desired truck over the Ford Ranger in Britain
is it like the mercedes sprinter and the vw crafter van?
Would love to see the California and California XXL here but won't hold my breath.
A perfect match, as you know if you've seen Ford and vag parts prices
Dude! Trim your beard! Those couple of hairs on your right side is stealing all of my attention!
Dude leave your beard bushy! I am not prepared to listen to anyone who's face does not sport one sixteenth of a bear.
@@johnmcdonough955 I just told him to trim it. A centimeter or two would be perfect. 👌
Now that you pointed that out I can’t stop focusing on it haha
Beard is there to conceal carry his 12 gauge.
The GTI is getting electrically heated windscreens and the Focus ST is getting tartan seat covers !!!
I think this is actually a cool collab...
I've been looking to swap my 88 escort gt just because parts are stupid hard to find and procure....Literally the first place I looked was the vr6 because I wanted a prior to buying the EGT...then of course I found ford's CD-V^ in the galaxy. lol
A new Volkswagen truck would be nice. Here en Denmark we currently have The VW Amarok witch is a really comfortable truck to drive. But seing something new from Volkswagen is always satisfying. And them partnering up with Ford again is for me ideal. I grew up with my parents always having VW’s and my brother always driving Fords so those car manufacturers are defenetly my go to
But you mentioned a Ford running with a VR6 witch model was that in?
Ford Galaxy in Europe.
So VW will release a VR6 Transit Connect Titanium? I dig it.
Pity the Amarok is'nt available in the US. Its a great mid size truck, i drive one in South Africa as my daily and its a Beaut!
It really is a bummer
Ford and Mazda has been collaborating for the past 30 years.. This should be a win-win for everyone..
You can be lucky that you get a Volkswagen partnership, because Volkswagen owns a lot of other carbrands : Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bently, Audi, Porsche, Ducati, Seat, Skoda
but none of VW owns are American brands; if VW buys Ford then it will be bad news for Stellantis which owns Dodge, Jeep, & Ram.
I've been eyeing the VW CC lately. What's the thoughts of the comment readers? What should I look for?
I like the CC. it has a few issues. Mostly rear tire wear, trunk harnesses and all the CCTA engine issues vw has
Ford Ranger with 3.6L VR6?
Tow your VR6 to the drag strip with your VR6. Race both.
That would be killer
ok, so with;
1 - new car sales tanking worldwide in the past year - watch this year ......., (since carmakers announced they have EV's in the pipeline)
2 - Ford making most of their corporation's profit through sales of highly profitable pick up trucks
3 - Ford with corporate debts of USD $222b, cannot afford to see pick up sales tank
4 - So they needed a partnership b/c they've not really done to prepare for EV's cars & pick ups (but tinker a bit)
5 - Seems like Ford needed a lifeline to avoid a "very bad" corporate outcome
This is a smart strategy by VW, to get a better foothold into US markets (and share the costs of EV r&d)
So its a dance of self-interest & survival (between two very unequal partners)
It will be very interesting to watch how this plays out over the next 3 - 5 years
Interesting indeed!
Can't wait to see what's coming up
Why would anyone get upset over this??? Two of the best manufacturers working together is a good thing... A diesel F150 or Ranger would be great!
Because people get upset about everything. Ahhaha
I can't wait to see what they come up with!
Maybe this solve the Amarok transmission problems 🤔
Nice frog skins, only thing i wear, I miss my neon green ones.
