Best thing we can do is cook without oils for our health. Been doing it for 16 years now. May I suggest when baking use parchment paper it helps crisp things in the oven. Aloha
Thanks for the tip!! Does it work for anything else? What about seasoning? That is what I have trouble releasing most...Water sauteing doesnt seem to release seasoning for me
Using vegetable stock instead of water, can cook your meats , vegetables and onions, garlic with out oil.. Vegetable Stock gives everthing you cook alot of flavor.
So how do you season veggies/potatoes, etc when baking/roasting? I get that spices will actually stick decently to veggies with decent water content (i.e. potatoes, zucchini, squash) but what about something like fresh broccoli/cauliflower? Also, for the viewers, you can also use a zero/low sodium [veggie] broth or stock in place of water or mixed with water to add flavor.
I am eating a vegan whole plants foods diet but I am also a Ethical Vegan and trying to avoid oil too. Thanks for the help. I do combine Raw and Cooked foods because Raw is too restrictive and expensive.
I been oil free vegan for 3 months now. Went from size 40 to 34 waist. I was told by doctor I was full of plaque. Poor circulation could walk more than 750 feet. Now I walk 3 miles. Feel great. I use no nuts, oil only raw veggies, fruit, beans, lentils. No dairy products. Circulation has greatly improved in a year I be plaque free
I just use water for cooking on the stove, church the food up with spices, and it works fine for a lot of foods. One of the biggest problems with oil is people buy some gigantic containers of it (because it's considered a staple) so the thing lasts for months and months and will go bad. Keeping and using that outdated oil for so long is even more unhealthy than the oil itself.
You can also take the ends of your veggies, that you usually throw away, and slow-cook them in water, add a few herbs if you like, to make your own vegetable stock.
Are you a practicing pharmacist? If so, what area (hospital, community, acute care, ambulatory, etc.)? If not, how do you keep up to date with your clinical knowledge?
I think the idea you have to be a doctor or physician to be knowledgeable about nutrition is out of date. A person can read books written BY doctors and learn from professionals and it doesn't make them unreliable. Even a doctor can end up hurting someone health through an in the box, drug pushing mindset.
The bests thibg is cook with milk. That will bring creamy taste as wll as surface where the vegetable will be cook. Another way is water. You have to give water for sure now or later so better to use water for cooking. These are not for frying fish or chicken rather for mixers.
Thanks for the tips!! Does it work for anything else? What about seasoning?? That is what I have trouble releasing most...Water sauteing doesnt seem to release seasonings for me??? Can you do a video specifically about how to cook with seasoning without oil? I also use an instant pot...If I throw a bunch of seasoning into the pot and cook, i end up not tasting any seasoning?? Thanks!
During great lent in the Orthodox Church we are vegan 48 days and at that time or oil and alcohol are banned. We also fast every Wednesday and Friday throughout the year and that is fine we can use olive oil and olives and get things prepared but great lent and the nativity are both more than 40 days with no oil.
You don’t have to peel beets with a knipe like that. You can use your hands, hold a beet and press, the peel will loosen and you can peel it. Or you can use a small knife and using the knife’s edge, scrape the peel off. Very easy and you don’t waste any beet! 😊👏
naslisntxaij marinade it before hand, especially with lemon juice or a little bit of yogurt and your favorite spices and just pop it in the oven to bake.
Hey Doc, I do that most of the time just by steaming in the rice cooker, frying vegetables on the frying pan without oil or little oil. It looks good, smell good and taste good too. Simple and delicious.
Thumbs up from me, I was thinking the exact same thing, so I scrolled down to see if anyone else though the same and BAM! The second comment that I saw was yours 😁
Out of all the things I learned in 2018, water sauté is probably my favorite! so helpful, tastes better, and makes me feel so much better after eating. Plus, for a gal on a budget, it saves me a ton of money. oil is expensive!!
I have used water before and it simply steams the vegetables or meat. Meat can go in with nothing but we can't eat meat during that time. I never thought it would be difficult to be vegan but once they struck down the oil or any fats at all I was screwed for making meals.
In your food combining video you say that vegtables can go with everything, but is this still okay if youre eating a starchy vegtable like peas with proteins?? If not what vegtables go with prtoeins??
Been binge watching your videos since 3 days! You have such a calming voice and aura. Your content is so unique . Can learn so much from your channel 💙
I see so many recipes that use tomatoes, my question is what is an alternative (if there is one) because I’m allergic to tomatoes, tomato paste, powder, all tomato products, and haven’t found an alternative. Do you have any advice?
Dr. Mona I'm a big fan! Love you videos for healthy eating. I'm determined to lose a significant amount of weight this year. May I ask about your hair color? What technique is that called where your hair is lighter at the ends? I too have dark black/Brown hair, and would like to go lighter at the ends.
This is not without oil. Beyond burgers are absolutely loaded with oil. Adding oil for flavour too afterwards? Not sure how this can be promoted as no oil.
Any tips for hair growth for fullness? When I was younger I had my hard full of hair and I feel now it is thinning so much I can see my scalp now. I use I flat iron everyday and blow dryer every day that have anything to do Witt loss of hair?
Alyssa’s World cut back on flat ironing and blow drying everyday. That’s a lot of heat. shampoo at night and air dry if you’re concerned with going out while it’s still wet.
This is great! I never knew that about tomatoes! Thank you! Mushrooms are also very watery when they are cooked! I often use water to sauté my veggies, but I like to toss just a little infused olive oil in for flavor every now and then!
People confuse oils found in plants with extracted and processed fats. We don't need processed fats, in fact they are detrimental to our health. And that includes olive oil. The oils we naturally eat through whole plant foods is enough for optimum health.
I’ve been heavy handed with oil lately and I’ve wondered why I’ve gained weight. 😂😂😂. I want to stop using oil for cooking, and just use small amounts for dressing and get my fats from nuts and 🥑🥑
Hi Mona!! Is it too late to sign up for your Hot and Healthy program?? I love all your advice and am interested in learning more of what you have to offer.
Ooo these are great tips! I eat too many avocados to waste fat on oil 😂
A trick: you can watch movies on Flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Jensen Damon definitely, been using flixzone for months myself =)

When you add 1/4 tsp baking soda to tomato or peppers, it will release the juice immediately.

I love the suggestion for using tomatoes as an oil substitution. They’re so juicy and it sounds like a delicious alternative.
Oil also increases the speed things cook in many instances. This is why fast food restaurants deep fry everything.
Thanks, very novel and interesting. I've been looking for a way to cook beef without using oil. Your milieu looks pleasant and organized.
I am eating a vegan whole plants foods diet but I am also a Ethical Vegan and trying to avoid oil too. Thanks for the help. I do combine Raw and Cooked foods because Raw is too restrictive and expensive.
thank you. great hacks! one note...when reading the package "beyond burger" it reads canola oil
Great idea with the tomatoes. I will definitely use that. Vege stock works too.
Oil doesn’t give the flavor, the spices do. I use water and spices, my food tastes just as great
Can you cook it with water like meat
I do the same thing and I agree 👍🏿
@@kimalex3261 of course. Oil is just to make stuff not stick....u can keep adding water instead. Lower temp
Love finding more vegan content creators! The tomatoe tip was amazing
Sorry, which is the link to the craving substitutions?

Would you recommend using veggie stock as an oil replaced when sautéing/frying? Xx
Sometimes I use vegetable stock/broth to sauté my veggies. I never thought of using tomatoes 🍅 I’m going to try it next time.
You can also take the ends of your veggies, that you usually throw away, and slow-cook them in water, add a few herbs if you like, to make your own vegetable stock.
You can use veggie broth to stir fry
Bean broth is also a healthy alternative
Aren't Beyond Meat Burgers infused with a grip of coconut oil?
Yup....
Was wondering if anyone had commented about this yet.
she said she eats low oil not really no oil so leaving room for things like that on rare occasion makes you more human. Being perfect is impractical
You can also boil potatoes, beets etc
Hello Mona what would you use to make popcorn when it calls for oil I've been using avocado oil.
Been making your smoothies, adding other things as well many days.....loving it! Thanks for getting me started!

easer clean up to "fry" with water rather than oil.
This is my first look at cooking without oil. Question,is this a nonstick pan your working with ?

Question. How do u keep chicken breast from drying out without using olive oil?
naslisntxaij marinade it before hand, especially with lemon juice or a little bit of yogurt and your favorite spices and just pop it in the oven to bake.
Easy: use an air fryer 😉
@@94Munisha94 Thanks! That's clever to use yogurt! I will definitely try that out!
@@cocowhite588 Awesome. Thanks!
Dr.Mona what is your take on avocado oil?
I love the tomatos! I never thought about that! Love your channel. It's really helping me in my healthier lifestyle transition. :)
Hey Doc, I do that most of the time just by steaming in the rice cooker, frying vegetables on the frying pan without oil or little oil. It looks good, smell good and taste good too. Simple and delicious.
That “beyond burger” has bad ingredients like canola oil, maltodextrin.
Thumbs up from me, I was thinking the exact same thing, so I scrolled down to see if anyone else though the same and BAM! The second comment that I saw was yours 😁
Violeta Vester and the beyond burger also shouldn’t stick or get burned because of that. She obviously just cooks it too high and too fast
That's easy to do when you don't have a gas stove. I assume she has an electric which is harder to control the heat.
Out of all the things I learned in 2018, water sauté is probably my favorite! so helpful, tastes better, and makes me feel so much better after eating. Plus, for a gal on a budget, it saves me a ton of money. oil is expensive!!
Water and bit of butter
Thank you so much for this video- this is awesome
How do you Roast veggies without oil and have them not stick to pan??
Can the tomato trick work if I chop up the tomato to smaller bits, like salad sized bites and use beyond beef instead of beyond burger?
Can we use olive oil for cooking?just starting to be vegan
Thx for the tip with the tomatoes
I have used water before and it simply steams the vegetables or meat. Meat can go in with nothing but we can't eat meat during that time. I never thought it would be difficult to be vegan but once they struck down the oil or any fats at all I was screwed for making meals.
The beyond burger has oil in it. It is a main ingredient. Engine 2 bean burgers have No oil in them.
6:44 Water and oil, that's not a good idea. Bubbles of oil start jumping.
Never knew to use tomatoes!!! Thank you for the tip, but will too much tomato create acid reflex?
You are doing great job of inspiring and showing people on how to be healthy.
I love your ombre hair youre so pretty im obsessed with your videos I learn so much
