In the 80's loads of London gangsters bought pubs in Essex and East London to turn them into mini nightclubs to wash the cash. These days other people! are opening barber shops and restaurants for the same purpose.
@@martynfreeman9638 whenever I visit a Chinese restaurant the cash machine is always out of order
Lol
That's the sort of business lunch where nobody goes back to the office afterwards... Everybody goes home to sleep it off!
A huge sleep would be needed after this Martin
There are plenty of these Turkish restaurants popping up all over the place, you hardly get any meat and you’re basically paying a lot of money for a fancy plate of salad and some bread.
spot on!!! 😂
They're clever with how they do it... I think this is more about style rather than substance but to be fair, the lunch menu was good
Just like all the Turkish barber shops, that never seem to have any customers.😂
@@englishorchard-haze4708 Exactly, wonder what they are for? 🤔
There was plenty of chicken on that plate!
Wait! What? £49 for a lamb sheesh? £59 for some lamb chops? They are taking the p**s! LOL!
Yep, it's ludicrous but yet the lunch was incredibly well priced
I literally had to rewind to ensure I heard right😂.
I used to eat there all the time back in the day. It was about 20 quid for a mixed grill and 24 for the mixed grill that was only lamb no chicken.. haven't been there for years. Didn't realise they'd gone crazy with the prices .
Well, it's great that there's at least some substance with the style! I expect what you're actually paying for is the sightseeing - lots to look at all around, even if much of it is peculiar. And at night, when there's no price concession, the possibility of social lions at a nearby table.
Still, I'm glad you found a way to get a good meal at a price that wasn't absolutely obscene!
The chiles got you again, amigo! Now, mind - winter is coming. Absolutely NO touching your tongue to frozen surfaces in the cold!
I think the camera man had a good feast….Too spicy for me but looked delicious…⭐️…
Sheesh is what I would say while looking at the menu and seeing the price of everything! Sheeeeesh! My glasses would steam up at those high prices
Sheeeeesh indeed!
At a minute and a bit in, the astroturf and ridiculous statues tell me all I need to know about this as a northerner.
@Metallex: Hello, fellow Northener!
I can't say it would be my usual
Yep, style over substance. As a Machester lad , a careful Christian. It's not for me 😂
Lunch prices Yes evening prices forget it, no matter how good it looks😳
Think about it as being a Theme Park with outstanding food. Probably about the same price and value?
I am so not a foodie and seldom eat out but I find these videos really interesting. I would like to congratulate Gary on the unpretentious yet informative, and cheery way he presents them. I am grateful to you for the effort you put in and you fully deserve any financial rewards that come from it. Well done.
That place is a posers paradise. Complete rip off like that guy that throws salt about.
Its similar but the lunch menu was fair
Been there and their London restaurant several times. I am vegan and their grilled vegetables are genuinely one of the best things I have ever eaten and I don’t usually even really like them much. Highly recommend the business lunch as it is outstanding value and you’ll certainly be full afterwards!
So is there a vegetarian version too - or just roasted vegetables?
Interesting, thanks for letting me know!
What I liked the most about this video was that black historic Chevy pick-up truck behind you in the parking lot. What a beauty! 😍
Spectacular colours - looks fantastic
Colours superb indeed!
Hi Gary, I'm pleased to see the cameraman got his own meal! Both looked fantastic and very healthy. Well worth the price for the portion size and quality.
Yes he did indeed this time, although I had to try it!
@@GaryEatshey up Garry I was hoping your answer would be no he didn't get any this time, for lunch time food I think one of those shared would be more enjoyable might need a bit of extra flat bread. Like the old American pick ups but prefer fords
Tucking into my tea when a new Gary Eats video drops. Get in. Best to you and the cameraman as ever!
Thank you so much Paul, hope you're doing well
@GaryEats: Pleasure, pal and thanks for the well wishes.
Lets give it a go 😊 great to unwind and watch your videos after a long stressful day
I really appreciate that, thank you Dom... hope you are doing well
Same I had a long day now I see a video an hour ago from Gary eats and I straight away put it on and it was worth it ❤😀
Gary, is that your Rolls Royce?
If anyone deserves one, it is you.
Gary drives a Mini he's a very humble bloke
I think I would look very silly getting out of a Rolls Royce
@@OrbitalTrails-x5s That's the cameraman's, Gary drives the Roller....dear me..... 🤣
Me and my good lady have Turkish nosh delivered from our local, Bodrum, here in Leicester. We have the special platter, has 4 strips of sheesh, pieces of lamb, chicken, chargrilled chilli peppers and tomatoes on a bed of rice in a container about 10 inches square, comes with chilli sauce pots, garlic mayo , another container full of fresh salad and 2 large warm pieces of fresh bread for 16.99, we also add doner meat n chips for another 6 quid, enough for 4 people easily and the quality is amazing for 27 quid delivered. I know it's not an eating out experience but it's great food. Cheers for another great review.
Sounds lovely.
That would be £35+ where I live 😮😮
Read your comment, made me hungry
"Forget the chilli."
Barry The Baptist providing the voice-over!
Very funny...
Chigwell ¬ Pumped up prices everywhere
Other restaurants in the area are not too bad. Sheesh always been higher.
Gary, you were sweating more looking at their menu than when you had the Phaal!
I realised... I didn't belong Alex lol
I had to laugh when you bit into that green pimento. Your reaction was classic Gary! I use pimento regularly in my cooking, being on the edge of Basque country. They turn from green to red, and become hotter and sweeter: hotter still when they dry out and shrivel.
129 for steak with truffles - ' give it a go'!
or a keebab!!
Never in a million years lol
The pub used to be a homely carvery place until Alen sugar bought it and I think his son runs it, it's a expensive area with so called celebrities that can only afford to go there. Great video Gary x.
As a Yank our cost would be $40, but I'd pay that all day for a meal like that. Probably take half of it home. I have yet to encounter a good Turkish restaurant here in the SF bay area, they all suck.
Gary, I think the word you’re looking for is not ‘bling’, it’s ‘chavvy’. The evening menu is Mayfair prices, and if you know Chigwell then you’ll know that Mayfair it certainly ain’t. I go past this restaurant a lot, and it’s full of the TOWIE lot and Essex wannabe gangsters. Even if the food is excellent, the gaudy and tasteless decor is enough to put me off. But thanks for reviewing a restaurant that’s actually close to me for once. Cheers, mate!
They've opened a Mayfair restaurant, too.
Love olives, black for salad and pizza, and green for martinis.
Ah..Mr Bond
Do you buy pitted black olives or ones with stones still in them? As Jamie Oliver was saying the pitted black olives, with the stone already removed, are green ones, but dyed black? He's definitely right about some of them being dyed black, but I'm not sure if they all are though.
Absolutely Patrick!!
Shaken or stirred Mr Bond?
Alan sugar owns the building !!!
I live local,It was a loverly pub called the kings head, before sheesh with a loverly Calvary upstairs years ago ! Even the likes of marlon Brando used to visit
Wow I didn’t even realise Chigwell was a real place. And Gary is the most recent celeb to frequent the Sheesh! The presentation of the main dishes were a work of art and I love the idea of placing the pitta bread underneath to soak up the juices.
i feel like im the only american who found his way to this channel, £49 being 66 dollars USD is pretty crazy. hope that is all worth those prices!
Loads of amazing US viewers!!
Another great video Gary, and thank you for the kind wishes recently, they mean more than you’ll ever know. I am still here (in the high dependency ward now) but when I watch these, feels like I am sort of visiting these places too, which is exactly what I need. (Sorry if I sound like a broken record, I’m certainly not looking for sympathy or anything like that) I just wanted to show my appreciation for your efforts. Take care 😊 (also those prices are absolutely insane! Like… how can they justify that in a million years 🤯)
Samuel, please take care of yourself. No problem at all, anytime you need to reach out - I am available by email but it does take me a while to reply.
I've been there too mate! Keep smiling 👍
Gentle hugs
Gary, much respect for responding to every comment on RUclips. How much time does it take you, on average? Best food reviewer out here🙏🙏🙏
I live just down the road , Chigwell used to be classy now the home of second- hand car dealers and Eastenders stars
Have you ever been here Terry?
What about Premier League footballers ?
I agree - it’s full of TOWIE and the usual orange brigade.
And cast of Birds of a Feather, or am I showing my age?
@@Beaballer_officalfirst thing I thought of! 😂😂
Birds of a Feather, that is…not you showing your age! 😂
Looked very good value for £30 considering.
It's strange how bronze cutlery seems to have gone out of fashion nowadays because it does indeed look like gold .
Thanks for another great review.
maybe because of the many people with nickel allergy who would object to be given Bronze Cutlery. Nickel Allergi is one of the most common forms of allergy
I worked with a Turkish guy who says how much he misses going to Turkish restaurants and how it's almost imposable now due to the prices in those places and how Lebanese restaurants do the same thing for a fraction of the price. Apparently a bowl of lentil soup that was £1.50 just over a decade ago goes for £8.00 now.
Lebanese kebabs are amazing. I love Turkish food too though.
I love Lebanese food, I'd say it's one of my favourite cuisines
@@GaryEats Have you tried Persian yet?
@@GaryEats got to second that Gary 👍🏾👌🏽
Yes check out my best food review video a while ago AA
Anything outside that £30 lunch is crazy. Salt B vibes.
I love that old pickup truck in the back. It is perfect.
Those mains looked amazing , business lunch pretty good value .
Spot on Alan!! Very fair value for lunch
that lamb was cooked to absolute perfection, everything was expensive but it looked devine, michelin quality. lunch prices seem okay though
Give it a rest
To be honest I think “bling” is somewhat understated, more like high kitsch. Would certainly appeal to a certain kind of celebrity 😂😂. The Business Lunch certainly looks very good and sensibly priced.
High tacky
Spot on Paul, nailed it... some may even say a bit tacky
Those big green chillies are always gonna be spicy Gary.
But their business lunch offering definitely looks good. 😋♥️
I used to go there when it was the Kings Head. Lovely pub back in the day
As a business lunch that was indeed very impressive. Attractive presentation, generous portions, good quality cooking. £30 was a bargain.
Another great video Gary, keep up the good work!
If you don't know the area it is where Alan Sugar lives. Also popular with footballers since the late Bobby Moore. I drank in there sometimes when it was a pub called Ye Olde Kings Head.
Well worth the £30.00 Gary! It was a feast indeed and your wonderful cameraman’s skills along with your zeal, as usual, made me salivate 😅❤️
Really well valued lunch mehu!
A very fair review as usual. I worked there as a student from 1965 when it was the Kings Head. Then owned by the Newtons, who had a DB5; it did a roaring trade. Now owned by Alan Sugar at least it is still standing.
Looks good, but most on that plate is sliced and diced 'salad', which is so ridiculously cheap for restaurants to provide. Or do they grow their own? Your work is always brilliant and so civilised. Puds do look yummy though! Thank you, you never disappoint us.❤
Thank you very much my friend
Is your great camerman-son as lovely as you? I hope he always eats as well as you do! Does he ever decline the rubbish stuff you try for us?😅l@GaryEats
There are lots of Turkish restaurants around these days think this one was style over substances the evening menu prices are ridiculous we have a Turkish restaurant that we go too and it's as good as anything I saw on your dishes. The prices are a fraction of this ones too, just because celebrities go doesn't make it good Gary. Glad you enjoyed your meal and love your reviews always. Safe travels 😊
Green and black olives are the same fruit; black olives are simply left on the tree to mature for longer and change to a darker purple-black colour. Just like red, green, yellow and orange peppers all come from the same plant at different points of ripeness. Black olives can be made by either leaving olives on the tree to ripen or by treating unripe olives with a chemical solution.
Thanks Einstein
Thanks, I read years ago. Black Olives, have simply, absorbed more of the, Sun. Nice one!
@@rfurms You are welcome .
Good to know, thank you Jamie

Loads of celebrities come here……including our Gary!!😂😊❤
Which celebrities dine there? I’m curious. Thanks.
Great post as always ❤ much love as ever 🎉
Thank you very much James
8/10 seems spot on. Even big reputation michelin starred restaurants in central London would have trouble justifying those a la carte prices , so, yeah, the business menu is obviously the way to go - unless you're business happens to be show-business, of course.
Spoiler!!!
Spot on, I think the prices for dinner are ridiculous
Great review Gal the biz menu sounds great! But @ full price Lamb chops 59 squiddles... Lamb shish 49 squiddles... Chicken Shish 39 squiddles....
Sheesh are taking the Peesh!
Thank you very much mate and yes you're spot on
A whole lamb, butchered and ready for freezing, is around £200. Their evening prices are an absolute rip off.
I won £30 on the Lottery about 2 years ago Gary....does that get me through the door of The Sheesh????😁. I used to go to the Fat Turk in Brentwood when I was on my travels and always had a good meal there. At 30 quid that looked great value and would happily pay that, but £50 for the evening Shish, that would be an eye waterer and not just from the chillies!!! Another top one there Gary......Fantastico!!!
I would have used my mum’s winter fuel allowance to go there but sadly…
Very overpriced menu for sure
nice bit of satire there @louisem7653
Labour for you
Gary, I really don’t know how you accommodate the volume of food served up, I’ve put on 30lbs watching you consume £30 worth…..Eastern Med restaurants, Lebanese, Syrian or Turkish have always been so generous with their portions…..the food looked fantastic!
Good old Gareth at it again, lets all "Give it a go" and share his enthusiasm "As always"
Thank you Troy lol
Thanks Gary, I was pleasantly surprised at what you got for the money after looking at the crazy prices on the menu. Looks like they are catering partly for people for whom money is no object and also the people that dont want ripping off!
No better way to spend some time watching a Gary Eats video on a rainy Tuesday afternoon . Looking forward to your video. Have a great day everyone.
Thanks so much Bino... the weather has not been kind!
Enjoyed that, thanks Gary.
I don't think I've ever tried Turkish food, but it looks delicious
HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU NOT OF TRIED TURKISH FOOD? WHERE DO YOU LIVE UNDER A ROCK? LOL
Try Turkish if you also try something called Ezme, sort of salad with warm bread….wow😮
Seems pretty fair and honest
the 8/10. Large portions and
well cooked food. Presentation
was amazing, a feast for ones
eyes. Sheesh is really worth
a visit. Well done Gary🤙
Great Gary! Thanks for showing it. Oh, These prices oh jeez, I can't afford that.
You are not the only one! Prices for dinner ridiculous
When you buy mixed grills in the UAE, you get all the meat served on bread - it's one of the best bits, but needs to be eaten warm.
Great vid.
PS, A kilo of mixed meat, lamb and chicken usually, costs around 25quid here, and you get bread, pickles, salad etc. - lasts me (as a single guy,) 4 days!
Lunch menu value is good but the main Menu is stupidly expensive don’t know how they can charge that much
It's the TOWIE tax, added instead of a service charge
Spot on Alex
Love the variety of places you review Gary. For me you are the best UK reviewer on here. Would love to see more Italian restaurants 🇮🇹🍝 Keep up the great work
Just a thought. Making a list of restaurants in order of quality. A map of where the restaurants are, so those of travelling can possibly pick out a few on our travels. I'm a pom coming back for a holiday, london, cotswolds, yorkshire, then home to Northumberland. Followed by another week yet to be determined. So far ive picked two you have reviewed: thompsons fish and chips and duck & waffle.
Like the Michelin guide, but better..😋
Two restaurants you should try down at Walton on the Naze, Whites Pie and Mash Shop and The Lara Turkish Kebab restaurant, a lot cheaper than Sheesh and the food is amazing. 👍🏻
Whilst the main menu did make my eyes water a bit i think those £30 lunches are pretty good value. Baring in mind it not just the food your paying for but also a nice eating experience. And of course in this part of Essex you do need the bling!
The lunch menu value is incredibly competitive, I don't think you can ask for too much more!
Agree 100% on olives - prefer the green olives but the black are OK. The ones you had there did look nice I have to say!
I still think its pricey . Agreed , it’s a plateful ,but mainly salad .
Of course, they know how to fill it up. However, given location I think £30 is quite fair given some restaurants I've been to all over the country
Oh no Gary. Guilty as charged. That’s actually my Chevy that I left behind. I fly over regularly cause I like the food and had a bit too much to drink so I left the car. At least it wasn’t stolen! I’m too embarrassed to leave a comment as such so I’ll leave it there. 👍
Hi Gary, another great video, Great presentation and the food looked delicious, a bit pricey though.
MAN ALIVE Gary, only £125 for the truffle steak? You should have that. Mind you the kebabs looked great and the salads looked great too and massively boosted the presentation, however the prices were a bit OTT and when I see that much salad, I mean really, how much does salad cost? Not much is the answer. Great review again. ❤
Not sure why people think that was a good price when you’re paying £30 for a very large salad with an admittedly nice looking piece of meat.
Rule no 1: No matter how innocuous-looking, always expect a chilli to be hot.
This place looked lovely. I might have to drop in one evening.
I think you're right, at this point I'm just sucker for punishment
I love the look of regret on your face as soon as you realise. Sorry, but that always makes me giggle.
Those prices are farcical, this place is strictly for the TOWIE crowd Gary
I didn't even know what TOWIE was before the cameraman explained it to me
I think you're right @rogercooke4589
@@GaryEats not my cuppa tea at all but I live around 30 mins from there so familiar with the area 😉
Way too expensive for Turkish food (which I love); I think they're getting carried away with Salt Bae. I used to go to a Turkish Okabasi grill in the North End Road in London where everything was cooked fresh in front of you. I would never pay those prices
Hi Gary, I have not eaten in this restaurant yet, but did when it was a normal pub named Ye Olde Kings Head.
It was bought by Alan Sugar and became a Turkish restaurant.
I’m not sure if he still own’s it or not.

Hi Gary! Yikes, that's a bit of a wallet buster. Very interesting decor... Thought it had a "secret society" look & feel to it. I imagine you're paying alot for setting & location but it's still way up there! Personally, I don't like olives, but my brother & my dad love them & will woof them down. 😅 I thought the chicken & lamb looked amazing. You could really share one of those between two people. The spices seemed to be on the attack a few times there. Lol. Dessert looked lovely, but sorry it was a little dry. Wonderful review as always & totally agree, try it out for the £30 business lunch menu... Certainly no skimping on portion. Almost at a very well deserved 150K subs Gary! You both take care & see you on the next one. ☺️💙
