For anyone wanting to be a SOT-A or linguist of any kind and thinking about going to DLI; there is a lot of homework, there are research assignments, there are сочленения (essays), and if you’re like most people you will need to study on top of that. It’s not all bad though, you can do it.
Love this episode. I enjoy all military related podcasts and guests, but this one was even better. I bet he was a great leader to work for considering the way he cared for his teams and his overall battlefield knowledge regarding planning, tactics, and operations. He sounds way more advanced than a lot of officers I dealt with. It sounds like his background in intelligence was a real asset for him and his ODAs.
Thank you guys for uploading all these Episodes honestly these stories deserve to be told in a matter of fact non-political way. My #1 podcast, ive been binge watching the gwot sof playlist and have been absolutely blown away with how usual the conversation about incredibly unusual things are to the guests. I’m ranting but genuinely thank you 🙏🏻
Great interview. A quick note. As former cadre at DLI over 10 years ago plus working with linguist for my entire career., DLI has 3 to 4 hours of homework work after class. A lot has changed since the old days of DLPT 4 and current Linguist needs.
Faria, remember I had already had 2 years if college russian. But you are correct, most of my classmates studied their ars' off. Thanks you for teaching the future
@danrunyon9710 Dan. You are good sir. My comment was about the host remarks. I can say those troops at DLI have it academically hard. However, they do lack soldiering skills at DLI, and it is hard to turn that switch back on once they go to the force. Besides that thanks for your service Sir.
Cool I remember him i met him when we served with 3bn 10th sf MID and the 108th MI bn in wildflecken I remember SSG Lamothe was also a sot-a CPT Murphy was the MID co and col toney was the gp cdr of 10th gp 1993-1994
Mr. Runyon - - I do hope yourself and your daughter hear/read this message. Your father is an American hero. Sir, you are an American hero. May God bless yourself and your family, and loved ones. May God bless America.🇺🇸
if i remember correctly was both were in operation shadow in 1993 at Helena MT I as a MID imagery analyst I really hated all the jumps we did from helos way too many cactus landing
I believe they have put timestamps on the ones uploaded for at least 2 days lol. They're doing these live. With a 3 person full staff. So theyre doing what they can. Shows like Combat Story and Shawn Ryan arent live so they have TIME TO edit. Shoot them an email to maybe donate ur time to help (?).
Sounds like you're the one who needs timestamps. Feels like you'd miss a lot if you skipped around on this episode, almost like it's a story he's telling.

Don't forget to tell them not to get married there hahaha

You guys need to put on timestamps. I would listen more often if they were available
They do these live it is not possible until after it is over, and it is a lot of work. I think they are doing fine.
