I'm curious to see Jordan as the character of Evan. I love Jordan. He's one of those Broadway stars with the silkiest voice. But he has a lot of swag to be Evan. That's why I'm ready to be amazed by how he's gonna attack the character.
i saw him two weekends ago so i can fully attest to the fact that his acting chops are firing at 100 because he completely transforms himself on stage. the swag is gone, the tats are covered up (obviously) and he's got all the classic ticks and mannerisms that make evan, evan. this video is not at all his rendition of evan when he's on stage. he absolutely killed me with his performance.
I get the "he's too pretty and smooth" comments about Jordan, like the dude was just a very credible dreamy romantic interest recently lmao, but I think judging that off this video doesn't really work cause while he's clearly channeling Evan it's clearly not fully meant to be in-character considering y'know the earrings and the tattoos. Judge it off those recently released videos of him actually on-stage as Evan (in which he looks really young btw. that costume adds a lot lol).

I think Jordan will be a good Evan, I've seen a few comments about his appearance not fitting who Evan is, but mental health isn't something you can see based off appearance, even the most gorgeous people can struggle. It's cool to see so many different people play this roll to me
I think he would make a good Evan, but he naturally looks confident and all of his other parts (Holden, John) are the chill and confident type so it might be harder for him to pull of an anxious character. But I do want to see how it turns out!

Because just in theory, if he pulled up to my school (even with social anxiety) he would definitely get at least a little bit of attention.

Every Evan they tried to match with Ben Platt’s voice and it’s awesome to see a new type of interpretation. It helps us to understand that this story could have happened with any normal high schooler.

It's possible that Jordan will shrug off his confidence and his swagger during the actual play. If he doesn't, it will be a problem.

@@Kierracore ooh so from what I read, Evan has social anxiety so he really finds it hard to (you don’t know how painful it is for me but anyway) he finds it hard to have normal conversations with other people and that’s the root cause of a lot of his problems. He didn’t have friends at all😢the story is he gets hurt in an orchard (I think) and breaks his arm. He gets that sorted but cause he has no friends no one writes on his plaster so his mom (after he comes from therapy) suggests that he gets one of his friends to write on the cast 🤦♀️ He goes to school bumps into Connor in the corridors then later on Connor writes on his cast. His therapist had suggested that he write letters to himself to hopefully makes himself feel better, then he writes a letter to himself but as if his “new found friend” Connor wrote it. Connor finds the letter and gets mad at Evan mainly because his younger sister Zoe is mentioned. Because Evan is anxious and stuff he never says anything to her but watches from afar. Later on Connor kills himself for some reason and then Evans letter is found in his pocket so now it’s like it was a suicide noteor something. Everyone thinks Evan was connors friend and because Connor was not close with his family or anyone else for that matter. Evan goes to connors parents house for dinner they talk he lies about him and Connor being besties and having website where they write letters to each other emails rather. Now everyone is trying to get to know Connor but really it’s all a lie Evan gets help to fix a website from another kid and he manages to lie to everyone. i like the way that gabi repeats “if i could tell her” because it’s as if she’s talking about herself, trying to convince herself that connor is still a bad person despite the good things he’s saying, and her verses saying “i love you” could possibly mean that even though she doesn’t want to, she still feels a connection to connor, and the house still feels empty without him.
This rendition make me wish that Evan and Connor were actually best friends who supported eachother and that Connor really cared for Zoe, so I can finally ship Evan and Zoe...
Jordan Fisher is actually pretty confident in his behavior, like his walking style and his looks, but he has these subtle looks to the side, which makes it somehow seem like he is acting that confidence and not that nervousness.. almost better than the original - great interpretation :D

Yo Yo I disagree because, even though he’s acting in this and while he’s not a bad actor, he’s still just not massively believable as awkward, anxious Evan. Looks do come into to someone being believable as a character but so do manner and how you carry yourself. He carries himself like a confident pop star which for Evan I just don’t think works. In this particular video, and I’m happy to be proved wrong, he doesn’t carry off Evan’s self-conscious awkwardness for me. I’m not saying he’s terrible, in fact vocally it’s one of the best I’ve ever heard. But he hasn’t convinced me acting wise yet, I just think he’s not quite right for Evan, he’s got slightly too much swagger in my opinion. But as people say, in the show he really transforms so I could well be proved wrong and hope I am!! You’re welcome to disagree :)
So I tried to explain the plot of this musical to my boyfriend the other day and the simultaneously realized how messed up it was. This song in particular like I love this song it’s one of my top three from the show and this rendition is gorgeous but when you think about it in context... ugh
That’s why for the entire musical I was just pacing in my head questioning every single decision the Evan made, it wasn’t like it wasn’t implausible just messed up
And genuinely that's one of the most interesting things about this show. You want to root for Evan, and a lot of people (myself included) can relate to him. But also, he's making so many decisions, and most if not all are questionably morally grey, you can see he's doing what he thinks he's right but then watching that spiral out of control. It's sort of like watching a train wreck, especially as the second act builds up (particularly around Good For You and then culminating in YWBF Reprise and Words Fail). And it's almost stressful watching it all fall apart.

I didn't tell a lie this big, but I have been in situations where someone assumed something and I didn't correct them fast enough. As time passed by, it just became too awkward to say anything. When you are introverted and anxious, it's doubly hard to speak up for yourself. What Evan did was wrong, but I give him grace because none of us are perfect and all of us could use a little grace.

But that doesn't make it ok, and with the movie coming out soon, I hope a lot of people take the time to look at it critically, cause I feel like there's still less nuanced views on it and its going to be kind of messy. So I know I was skeptical, but he seems to give a sensitivity to Evan. I am used to the jagged anxiety of Evan. Its different. Jordan FIsher's version almost seems more fragile. It'd be interesting to see Waving Through a Window. Its making me consider the full emotional journey that Evan goes through. He goes through an arc and that is what I need to remember with this casting. BTW-- I see you DEH releasing a Valentine's Day video for the second year in a row. You're not going to beat last years.
BubblyBrainiac exactly my thoughts! Jordan also cried in for forever when he sings about falling from the tree and that moment honestly broke me. Especially when you’re already familiar with the the story. He brings more tears and like you said fragility to Evan and I am not complaining at all.

Just saw the show this past weekend. Jordan was absolutely phenomenal. My girlfriend and I were blown away by his performance. But the whole cast is amazing! No role was underperforming in any way. If you were on the fence about seeing it, I can't recommend the current cast enough

@@Kierracore ooh so from what I read, Evan has social anxiety so he really finds it hard to (you don’t know how painful it is for me but anyway) he finds it hard to have normal conversations with other people and that’s the root cause of a lot of his problems. He didn’t have friends at all😢the story is he gets hurt in an orchard (I think) and breaks his arm. He gets that sorted but cause he has no friends no one writes on his plaster so his mom (after he comes from therapy) suggests that he gets one of his friends to write on the cast 🤦♀️ He goes to school bumps into Connor in the corridors then later on Connor writes on his cast. His therapist had suggested that he write letters to himself to hopefully makes himself feel better, then he writes a letter to himself but as if his “new found friend” Connor wrote it. Connor finds the letter and gets mad at Evan mainly because his younger sister Zoe is mentioned. Because Evan is anxious and stuff he never says anything to her but watches from afar. Later on Connor kills himself for some reason and then Evans letter is found in his pocket so now it’s like it was a suicide noteor something. Everyone thinks Evan was connors friend and because Connor was not close with his family or anyone else for that matter. Evan goes to connors parents house for dinner they talk he lies about him and Connor being besties and having website where they write letters to each other emails rather. Now everyone is trying to get to know Connor but really it’s all a lie Evan gets help to fix a website from another kid and he manages to lie to everyone. You know what I’ll just send you a link I might spoil for others. 😅

i like the way that gabi repeats “if i could tell her” because it’s as if she’s talking about herself, trying to convince herself that connor is still a bad person despite the good things he’s saying, and her verses saying “i love you” could possibly mean that even though she doesn’t want to, she still feels a connection to connor, and the house still feels empty without him.
I love Jordan Fisher's voice in this song- I know he can belt but I like the softer side in this song.

Jordan Fisher is actually pretty confident in his behavior, like his walking style and his looks, but he has these subtle looks to the side, which makes it somehow seem like he is acting that confidence and not that nervousness.. almost better than the original - great interpretation :D

but I think that's the point no matter what kind of person you are, it's possible to go thru what Evan went thru. Evan isn't a typecast person. I think the writers wrote Evan to be all of us.
This was Jordan singing not Evan, I've seen clips, of him being evan, transformed, and it's no nothing like the smooth, cool soft eyed Jordan we see here.

What a gross thing to say honestly. Jeremy Jordan has been getting the same stuff for playing Seymore in Little Shop of Horrors and it’s really stupid. You’re basing all of this on his looks, not his acting experience or skill. Imagine if someone said an actor was too fat or too skinny to play a character. This is just a really ignorant thing to say
Yo Yo I disagree because, even though he’s acting in this and while he’s not a bad actor, he’s still just not massively believable as awkward, anxious Evan. Looks do come into to someone being believable as a character but so do manner and how you carry yourself. He carries himself like a confident pop star which for Evan I just don’t think works. In this particular video, and I’m happy to be proved wrong, he doesn’t carry off Evan’s self-conscious awkwardness for me. I’m not saying he’s terrible, in fact vocally it’s one of the best I’ve ever heard. But he hasn’t convinced me acting wise yet, I just think he’s not quite right for Evan, he’s got slightly too much swagger in my opinion. But as people say, in the show he really transforms so I could well be proved wrong and hope I am!! You’re welcome to disagree :)
So I tried to explain the plot of this musical to my boyfriend the other day and the simultaneously realized how messed up it was. This song in particular like I love this song it’s one of my top three from the show and this rendition is gorgeous but when you think about it in context... ugh
That’s why for the entire musical I was just pacing in my head questioning every single decision the Evan made, it wasn’t like it wasn’t implausible just messed up
And genuinely that's one of the most interesting things about this show. You want to root for Evan, and a lot of people (myself included) can relate to him. But also, he's making so many decisions, and most if not all are questionably morally grey, you can see he's doing what he thinks he's right but then watching that spiral out of control. It's sort of like watching a train wreck, especially as the second act builds up (particularly around Good For You and then culminating in YWBF Reprise and Words Fail). And it's almost stressful watching it all fall apart.
@@kl-1447 I've actually been in Evan's position before so I understand it. I didn't tell a lie this big, but I have been in situations where someone assumed something and I didn't correct them fast enough. As time passed by, it just became too awkward to say anything. When you are introverted and anxious, it's doubly hard to speak up for yourself. What Evan did was wrong, but I give him grace because none of us are perfect and all of us could use a little grace.

But that doesn't make it ok, and with the movie coming out soon, I hope a lot of people take the time to look at it critically, cause I feel like there's still less nuanced views on it and its going to be kind of messy. It's either Evan did what he had to and everything ended up fine or Evan is in fact the worst and doesn't deserve forgiveness. The truth is that Evan is not a villain nor is he the hero. He's a person who makes a mistake and that mistake spirals and while he shouldn't be blamed for everything, he should face consequences for his actions, and that his anxiety doesn't excuse all of that (which Im not saying it didn't contribute, but I feel like a lot of people are like oh no he's anxious that excuses it and it doesnt) (also I don't think you're saying that either to be clear, I like your nuanced explanation).

So I know I was skeptical, but he seems to give a sensitivity to Evan. I am used to the jagged anxiety of Evan. Its different. Jordan FIsher's version almost seems more fragile. It'd be interesting to see Waving Through a Window. Its making me consider the full emotional journey that Evan goes through. He goes through an arc and that is what I need to remember with this casting.
BTW-- I see you DEH releasing a Valentine's Day video for the second year in a row. You're not going to beat last years.
BubblyBrainiac exactly my thoughts! Jordan also cried in for forever when he sings about falling from the tree and that moment honestly broke me. Especially when you’re already familiar with the the story. He brings more tears and like you said fragility to Evan and I am not complaining at all.

Just saw the show this past weekend. Jordan was absolutely phenomenal. My girlfriend and I were blown away by his performance. But the whole cast is amazing! No role was underperforming in any way. If you were on the fence about seeing it, I can't recommend the current cast enough
