    The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
    Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
    Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
    Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
    Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
    The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
    Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. The 2019 championship was won by Hyundai with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. Find out about the latest winners and champions at www.wrc.com

    Best action to watch... 0:49 Colin McRae asks Nicky Grist to repeat a pacenote, after a jump, 2:07 jump onto fast asphalt with many rally fans, 2:50 bad bump which maybe caused the damage which makes the fire?, 2:59 flat out maximum attack, 4:37 over big jump, 5:14 first sign of smoke and Nicky Grist choking as he reads the pacenotes, 5:23 Colin McRae mentions the fire and tells Nicky Grist to prepare the fire extinguisher, 5:50 thick smoke into the car at the end of stage stop line. The fire was reportedly caused by an impact damaging the rear differential of the Ford Focus RS WRC rally car, leaking oil onto the hot exhaust, making the rear of the car catch fire.

    Grist is a freaking master at reading those notes... pure mastery where Colin asks for confirmation, Grist confirms it, and then catches up with the notes at a fast but steady pace before returning back to that rock-solid pacenote reading thing he does. Unbelievable.

    Yeah that’s when Colin realised that he can see smoke coming in and he told his co driver to get his fire extinguisher and just as he got out the rear of his focus caught fire

    Great precision by Colin, always cutting it right near the edge of the road, even with those big ditches on the side!

    Colin McRae car on fire! He said "About 700 metres from the end we started to smell something and by the time we reached the stop line, there was thick black smoke in the cockpit," said McRae. "We couldn't see or breathe. We leapt out and the whole of the rear of the car from the back wheels onwards was on fire.
    We tried to put out the flames, but every time we thought we had done it, they re-ignited. Eventually a fire tender arrived and the fire was put out with foam. Thinking back, we saw people waving us down for the last couple of kilometres of the stage, but we thought they were enthusiastic fans!"

    Colin is fantastic! But also, Nicky Grist is one heck of a co-driver! Getting back into synch when doing the pace notes after something slows or stops you is always impressive.

    thats exactly correct wrx224.... it is also because the pacenotes system he uses is what gear he will use in the corner, so a 6 right is 6th gear R with a + or - as u stated.... a 2 right is 2nd gear right etc... it is a shame he has passed away, what an awesome rally driver and an legend in his on right R.I.P. colin

    I drive on dirt roads out in the sticks a lot and I practice rally-style driving whenever it's "safe" (in my little Chevy S-10 pickup. HaHa!) I'm pretty happy about taking the turns marked 20MPH at 40 and there is one marked 35MPH that I can drift at 65, but my sphincter still tightens watching these guys do it for extended periods at 90+. Bravo!

    Did anyone else notice why Colin yelling 5?
    0:55 He corrects Nicky for yelling slight right instead of 5 right. Nicky stutters then corrects it. Compare the Pacenotes of Richard Burns Rally to Colin Mcrae Rally. Slight right, hard right.... K right... too vague. Good job for Nicky.

  • @AlejjSi
    @AlejjSi 15 лет назад

    It began in Germany 2002,when Nicky colculated the time to go into timecontrol just enough and Colin had under pressure twice stalled the engine and they didnt make it in time,earning 10s of penalty time. Afterwards,ath the end of that stage,coli said to Colin(reporter)"You should ask the welsh wizard(he memant Grist)why we got that 10s"

  • @AlejjSi
    @AlejjSi 15 лет назад

    Their agony ended in Zealand 02,when Nicky called"2 right dont cut".Colin however missheard it and just when he asked if it was 3 or 2,he forget about "dont cut" and hit a gate on the inside.That put him of the road and retired. At the end of the rally,they have split

    I understand the numbers and the sides, just the ''line'' part was fuzzy :D and I found out shortly after, that ''minus'' is a slow corner of that type and ''plus'' is a fast corner of that type

    Damn this is nuts, if I was the co-driver, my butt cheeks would be so tightly clenched together that a piece of coal caught in between would of came out a diamond when the race was over. Love Colin's style, love the track, its like I'm watching poetry in motion.

  • @codenamecordon
    @codenamecordon 13 лет назад

    the co-driver is just like in CMR '05. so it IS authentic, by these guys themselves. plus, Estonian flag @ 1:53, near the jump, and a bit later in that section too, coz our dude, Märtin, was the king of jumps in Finland:D also, it's so cool, as he goes through somme dudes front yard @ 3:28:D and that finn is just looking at the car like:,,just another sunday morning...''

    I'm not sure of this. It's more likely that plus means stepping on the throttle, accelerating through the turn, while minus means take the corner without applying throttle, decelerating. You'd notice that pattern if you watch carefully. Still not 100% sure though, but at least I can't notice any change of road width in relation to this.

    Its fairly simple really, the 1-6 describes the gravity of the turn ahead, left or right is obviously the direction you need to turn on the corner, this could also be included with over crest line keep middle which means you have a crest before the corner line keep middle means you need to keep middle over the crest and take the racing line upon landing, left turn you need to take the right side of the road for the racing line

      it means there are small "ruts", after tyres of previous cut - the popular sweaped away gravel whicj gives good grip far in the starting order, which can also destabilize you if you go too wide
