I always wanted to hear this song but I could never find it when I was 14. Finally thought of it again today 25 years later. Now I got to look up the other b-sides I could never track down.
@@ferrreira yeah I was able to track down that one on 45. Where I live it is extremely hard to find any Queen 45’s or 12” singles after the hot space album. I think that has a lot to do with Queens popularity dropping off in the states when the Works came out unfortunately.
@@whome638 it's a shame that middle America didn't get the joke on I Want To Break Free in an era when the mainstream was going for MTV and looking all manly macho rrrrrock.
I had this on the 12" in '86 but it took some more years before I got in to electronic music. When I did I rediscovered this electro track and imho it was very awesome for the time. There were numerous artists for whom this style is about all they could do and Roger [it seems] apparently thought "I'll have a stab at that". If it was released by some dedicated electro artist of the time it might have been heralded as a classic of the genre.
Pure 1986. This is not quite Queen, but the electronic music tools that they used to put across an idea. Listen to this track in Highlander especially Brian May's 15 second snippet from Daddy Help Me scene where the whole bass synth is replaced with his guitar riff.
This song is an instrumental version of "Don't lose your head" and it is the B-side to "A Kind of Magic". I don't think it exists enywhere else. I couldn't find it
The anecdote is that after Joan Armatrading completed recording her vocal bits for 'Don't Lose Your Head', Roger surprised her with a dozen red roses, and this title is a reference to that.
Nah. It sounds too mid-80s for it to be anything to do with the Hot Space sessions. Its clearly digital rather than analogue synth that were on that earlier album.
Not counting Flash Gordon, the only five songs I could not stand were Cool Cat, Mustapha, My Baby Does Me and The Loser in the End. I warmed up to all of those at least a bit - Funny How Love Is is still the only one that sucks after 15+ years of listening to Queen. Good that there is _someone_ out there who actually likes it. You're literally the first person that I read on the internet or talk to in person to ever say they like it. I swear.
I agree on Mustapha: I don't love it but I can tolerate it (also Freddie's vocals on it are amazing). I don't mind My Baby Does Me one way or another. I understand the dislike for Cool Cat (though I personally disagree; it's very catchy, and I like Freddie's falsetto), but find it strange that you dislike it more than other tracks on Hot Space (ahem, Body Language and Put Out the Fire). But I'm surprised that you actively disliked Loser in the End! Maybe I just have a soft spot for the whole Queen II album (Funny How Love Is included). My least favorite Queen songs, not counting Flash Gordon -- which for the record (pun intended) I don't hate, I just find hopelessly boring -- are probably Fat Bottomed Girls, Get Down Make Love, and Put Out the Fire -- but they're still tolerable. It's funny that two of the three are written by Brian, but he's also penned some of Queen's greatest. Really, I'm the first person you've encountered who likes Funny How Love Is? You should check out the comments sections on RUclips videos of it! Lots of positivity there. I just find it such an adorable little piece. The only aspect of it that I don't fancy much is the drumming, which I think doesn't fit well with the mood, but I still think the song is very cute. Why do you dislike it?
Right! I forgot about Body Language. That's amidst the worst 5 for sure. Get Down Make Love I used to quite like but now I think the musical breakdown sucks - still not amidst the worst, though. The rest of the songs you mention I do like. Of of Funny How Love Is, I find it very monotonous (all instruments), the original mix was horrible (drums taking over everything), the lyrics are silly at best, it has no solo, complexity or _almighty display_ of any kind... The number of times I heard of people hating on it has to have three digits - I distinctly recall one saying "I can't think of this song as anything but a mistake!". Nevertheless, I still think Queen 2 (with Innuendo) is Queen's best album.
This is great. It sounds like it could have been the theme song from an 80's cop tv show!
No some how I envision Hulk Hogan struttin up to the ring.
What higher praise can there be than that? ;)
Used to have this on LP 45. Wow well before its time. Played it more than its a kind of magic. The start of the new era of music.

This should be on the A Kind Of Magic 2011's bonus EP. I don't know why they skipped it.
I actually had that vinyl! Unfortunately, I borrowed it to a friend, and that day, I lost a friend and my vinyl.
I have this on the 12” Kind of Magic single, much preferred it to the A side !
This music is best played when you’ve stolen a car and kidnapped someone who works in forensics and has a fascination for ancient weapons.
That's so specific... 😂😂😂

Who in their right mind would replace bass synth with geeetaaarrrr? Sacrilege!

I think this is quite an imaginative instrumental an much more interesting than don't lose your head..
Superb...
Awesome track, thanks for this, I have the single but couldn't ever find it on MP3!
Great instrumental - better this way than with lyrics - Don't Lose Your Head - on the album.
this would be great live before the show like they did with Machines (or back to humans) during the works tour
This is actually an instrumental version of "Don't Lose Your Head", featured as the B-side of "A Kind of Magic"
It's not, it's 'A dozen red roses for my darling'. 'Don't loose your head' is way different :D
The bass riff is the same of Don't lose your head! They played around that!
It’s pretty much the music used during the car abduction scene in Highlander.
@@yannocheAre you hard of hearing?
Great!!!
Roger's track?
Yes
Love this one never heard of it.I love it.Does anyone know what synth was used?
Either, Yamaha DX7, Oberheim OBX or Roland Jupiter. I think it might have been the Oberheim OBX.
Thanks!
This is not bad. :o

Could it be an unseen reference to a previous partner of Connor MacLeod?
