    Takumar. I have this lens and it is sharp, great color and a beautiful soft out of focus blur. I have the series of Canon FL lenses and yes, it competes quite well. The only down side is the lack of close focus. Reminds me a bit of a range finder lens when it comes to close focus.

    Thanks for the video. I have a mint (like in "never used"!) version of this lens. Just picked it up for $25 from an antique dealer. Haven't shot with it yet, but hope to this year. It is not a "Super Takumar", just a "Takumar", very well-made; love the two aperture, "to click, or not to click" option.

    This older version of the Takumar 135 has eight aperture blades. the newer version has six.

    I've got this on my Fuji XT2. It is amazing, really sharp images, great for landscape and for sitting birds. And great for still portraits too, creamy bokeh. Although I wouldn't use it for street photography as it needs extremely precise focusing to get the best out of it and it's pretty intrusive.

    Have this lens on my Nikon Z6ii I like it a lot and it is small and easy to carry. The Nikon 70-200 covers 135mm but its a big arsed beast. Great work with this lens man.

      @@JoeMansLand I do yeah but if it's AF tracking is a bit `meh,' One day Nikon might catch up to Sony and Canon. Start up time a bit slow. IQ is good IBIS is great (over DSLR) and focus peaking good for these old vintage lenses Any mirrorless is great for adapting old lenses. I used to shoot Canon film but the D700 convinced me digital was better and affordable, so now I'm invested. I like all gear, it's all great fun. Keep up the good work

    Well I really like my 105 Takumar. Being I have the Sony A7rIV I can do silent shooting so not to draw as much attention to my shooting. These are not designed for low light conditions so I don't know why everyone wants to take them out at night without flash. With flash you control the light so you get much better images. I prefer my Rokkor 58mm f-1.4 for my street lens at night. I do have a 58mm f-1.2 Canon for my Sony but I don't like it quite so much.

      Thats a great point and I agree a flash makes it much more usable!

    Did you find a lens hood for this? Supposedly this early model uses a different hood than the later models.

      @@JoeMansLand I did some googling, and I can’t confirm yet, but someone on a Pentax forum said the Takumar 105mm F2.8 hood is compatible. It also has a 49mm filter size - I’m not sure if it just screws in where a filter would go. I’ve ordered an early 135 but haven’t received it yet. Hope that helps if you still have this lens!

    Got a really minty one five days ago, and an ebay Fuji X adapter today, for as Zenography likes to say, "peanuts". Well what else is new..like everyone else, first day I'm shooting at stuff in the house near lights on an XH-1, but still trying to keep the speed at 1/125th. Not impressed with the first 3 stops yet, and the in body stabilization isn't doing anything to thrill me either. I'll tripod it manana outside. I think this will be best with subjects much further away than across my living room at 6 p.m. Using the red focus assist on high. Oh, and on the ebay adapter I got, (fotodiox has been sold out for a while) it's a beautiful snug fit on the T-2 body, but the lens numbers all wind up facing the ground! I could make a joke about it's manufacturer being on the other side of the planet....

    i couldn't' find much info or review on this lens but thx to your video, I went and bought this lens and I'm loving it. The blur background for portraits, the look and build quality of the lens.
    Just 2 question, is it me or is this lens low in contrast and the sharpness is very slightly soft when zoom in?

    • @JoeMansLand
      @JoeMansLand  2 года назад +1

      thank you for the feedback Jeff, & I will for sure go into more details on the next one. To answer your questions yes it is a bit soft for sure. However I was only doing a run/gun in this video, so you might get better results if you are rocking a tripod.

    i tried my super takumar 135 mm to my sony A6400 using T2-NEX cause it will fit anyway. I wonder why it wont focus to the object that I want but the lens don't have any problem I guess.I want your piece of advice..Is it not compatible w/ the mount that I used? or there is really a problem of the lens? Thank you so much ,hope you'll help me..

    • @JoeMansLand

      Great question. I can't speak to that adapter specifically, but I once used a plat adapter rather than one of the thicker ones, and it didn't provide enough distance between the lens and the camera to focus. Perhaps it is that, or maybe the lens is a dud? Have you used this adapter successfully in the past with an m42 lens? Maybe see if a friend has an m42 adapted camera to test it on to see if it is in fact the lens before buying another lens.

      This is the older preset takumar, not the later super takumar. it should have nicer bokeh due to more aperture blades.
