    Thanks for the video, great guide.
    BTW, anyone looking to buy rubber stoppers here is a tip. If you're on a tight budget(like I am) you've noticed that those stoppers specifically intended for lenses are super expensive(cost more than a decent vintage lens). Here is a cheaper alternative - "silicone stoppers", I mean the ones used for wood barrels in wine/beer making, just make sure you get those that are intended for use with an bubbler/airlock because they're hollow and only come in contact with the ring not the lens itself as it should be.

      Thank's for the link, I have actually use "Rubber stopper" many years to take apart lenses and cameras, it's really good sticky rubber and one can get them in many different size' or modifie them into other design.
      Over time it will be more hard and less sticky, but one can in a way recover the "stickyness" with some Acetone on a cloth, the Acetone will soften the rubber, so they will be "almost" new.
      The "rubber cone" from Japan Hobby Tools is, in my opinion really good because they will keep the stickyness longer.

      @JustWonderingHowToDo Yeah, looks like there aren't any. Found some alternatives. I've bought mine in an engine testing kit that I also needed, here is the ebay listing number - 323563179005(just put it in the search bar), the largest size works perfectly for the takumars. Another alternative I've seen people use are sink plugs, just make sure you're getting the correct size, for example ebay number 283921069006. If you only need a specific size you can get a dedicated tool, ebay have some that are more reasonably priced like this one - 123732932543 , the seller has other sizes too. I'd also recommend getting a lens spanner wrench, I tried using calipers instead and ended up scratching the lens housing.

    Incredible videos, I'm glad I found your channel! Quick question, I have a Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD for Nikon (the older Generation 1 version, not the G2) and want to clean dust from inside the Front element. I do not see that you have worked on this particular lens. Is there a lens that's a close substitute that I can watch a video on? Thanks for any advice.

    Beautiful video that made me think about cleaning my Vivitar Series 1 V3 3.5 70-210. It has fog But it is very well taken care of. Do you have any advice to give me? The three screws to remove it are very firm. And any other advice would help me a lot.

    Hello. I'm interesting in such compact, inexpensive lens which gives good image. There are various SMC Takumars 135 f/3.5 on Ebay at a low price, but they have "many fungus". In this case, can lens coating be damaged, or it remains in a good condition after cleaning? Also, does lens frame need cleaning from fungus?

    Hi Mikeno, I first want to say I really enjoy your videos, (not as much the time lapse) they are educational and I find them relaxing after a stressful day. My girlfriend thinks they are boring and I drive her crazy because lately that's all I watch. lol. But the reason for my comment is I have a 20mm 2.8d nikon that I recently purchased used on ebay. When I went to test it I noticed the focus is stiff from 2 meters to infinity. The seller is offering a discount to have it repaired or a refund. I wonder if this is a simple fix, or best left to the professionals, or should I get my money back? I purchased the lens for $249 and he is offering a $150 credit. So what should I do?
    Also, I want to thank you for inspiring me to fix my 80-200mm 2.8d af-s. Its clean and working well. Thanks for all your videos!!!
    -Dan

    Hi, I bought a SMC Takumar 35mm f2 and it has some fungus and I was planning on open it and clean it with Hydrogen Peroxide, i was reading online that this lens is radioactive.I wanted to know if it’s dangerous to do that. I hope you can help me with that, I have been looking online but I couldn’t find anything.

    • @nerwanisnoone1937
      @nerwanisnoone1937 3 года назад +1

      That thoriated glass isn't *very* radioactive. The amount of exposure over a photographers whole life was estimated to be something similar to having a scan at a hospital. It's the kind of radioactive source you'd be allowed to experiment with in school. Just be aware that your eyes are a little more sensitive to alpha particles than the rest of you (your skin will block alpha particles) so wear some kind of eye protection while you do it.

      Sometimes I use a vernier caliper's small jaws (which is used for inside diameter measurements) to losen binocular elements.
      Also a handy tool is a rubber strap wrench.
