  • Following in the footsteps of someone who inspires me a lot, we take a Super Takumar out and put it through its paces! How does a lens that's 60 years old perform?
And be sure to check out ‪@MarkHoltze‬ RUclips channel. His content is incredible, and he has been a huge inspiration on my latest work (and obsession with vintage lenses)!

    By far my favourite lens.

Great video. The drone footage was excellent. I also have that same lens in m42 mount which I use on my Sony a7II. Mine has ser # 3276947. The focus ring is still buttery smooth and the aperture blades are perfect after more than 50 years. The build quality of these Asahi lenses is amazing. The PQ is as good as most modern lenses in my opinion. I have a collection of vintage lenses, but the Super-Takumar 135mm f3.5 is one of my favorites.

Thats awesome! I am super impressed with how a lot of these vintage lenses have held up and how they perform on modern cameras. Thank you for the compliments!
What lenses do you have in your collection?

@@michaelmarshallphotography5515 I have that Asahi 135mm, several Canon FD lenses, Hanimex 28mm f2.8, Osawa 28-80mm, and several Yashica ML lenses in C/Y mount which I got through an ad on Kijiji. It was an amazing find. The guy knew nothing about photography and was selling a huge camera bag full of lenses, camera bodies, flashes and other stuff for CAD $50 and it was only a 10-minute drive to meet him. I bought the whole lot after seeing it on the tailgate of his truck. It was from his aunt's estate. His junk became my treasure.

@@patrickmckeag3215 That is amazing! I'm a bit jealous! What is your favorite lens from the bunch? Seriously, that's a crazy good deal.....still waiting for the day I land one of those.

I use mine all the time. Its not the sharpest lens but renders a rather smooth looking image. The focus ring is nice as well, not withstanding the overall build quality.

Agreed. I really like the flares out of this lens and the render. I wish I used the 135mm focal length more to use this lens. Just not my go to length personally.

2:25 Mine actually does say "Super-Multi-Coated"

That is VERY interesting. Mine definitely says "Super Takumar." So they made a "Super Multi Coat" and a standard "Super Takamur?" Now I feel like I need to research this further.
Thank you for the watch and comment! I'm going to look into this deeper.

@@michaelmarshallphotography5515 I only found out about Takumar lenses a couple of months ago. I thought they were all super multi coated, but there are different versions. The 50mm f1.4 that came with my Spotmatic, which I thought was super multi coated, is not, it's a Super-Takumar. Unexpectedly, my 135mm was also included with my Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic purchase, and it's a bit newer Super-Multi-Coated.

Thank you for the info. How do you like your Takumars? Do you notice any performance differences between the Super Takumar and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar?
