@@manofzuo If they did, then they can say "bye, bye" to EU market, which is not so nice I suppose. So I think they got that option (usb-c mfi) blocked by the EU.
Great video but part of the EU law literally says: "In so far as they are capable of being recharged by means of wired charging at voltages higher than 5 Volts, currents higher than 3 Amperes or powers higher than 15 Watts, the categories or classes of radio equipment referred to in point 1 of this Part shall: 3.1. incorporate the USB Power Delivery, as described in the standard EN IEC 62680-1-2:2021 “Universal serial bus interfaces for data and power - Part 1-2: Common components - USB Power Delivery specification”; 3.2. ensure that any additional charging protocol allows for the full functionality of the USB Power Delivery referred to in point 3.1, irrespective of the charging device used." AKA if every USB C "charging device" should be able to have the full additional functionality a company provides, in my eyes kind of making the point made in this video useless.
but it still would not ruin the iphone. usb C still has better specifications (transfer rate) than lightning to i dont see how this could "RUIN" the iphone
That‘s exactly the problem. On paper, USB-C has better specifications. But the EU-Rule just states that USB-C is mandatory for all devices, not the exact specification or speed of the cable. They mean just the physical connector. Apple can exploit this by putting the mandatory port on their phones but limit the transfer speeds for non-Mfi cables. So you just get the best speed or fastest charging with an Apple cable.
EU already stopped them when first rumors appeared that they were doing so. They passed a law that made it impossible to make an MFI USB-C cable and sell it in the EU.@@Xg78
@@Xg78i mean even if this is the case, i’m positive Apple has magsafe on their radar for a portless iphone in the next 3-5 years, then it will do whatever Apple wants it to.
The only reason Apple is resisting the USB-C port is that Apple’s MFi program forces all hardware companies that make Lightning accessories to pay royalties to Apple. They need to be forced on this issue.
even if its ONLY apple certified cables that work with iphones, those cables will still most likely work with other devices, be much, much faster, and will most likely allow you to use the same cable for your, mac, iphone, apple watch, airpods, and ipad. that's still a 10x improvement of ol'lightnings slow speeds and limited amount of devices it works with.
I agree with you. 2:07 I don’t think usb-c is the next long term connection for Apple devices. It was invented about the same time as lightning, but wasn’t ready for products when they needed it, so it’s actually not new. I think it’s a middle step they didn’t want to take, but are being forced to. The next, I hope, is MagSafe charging with optical data transfer.
I don't hate USB-C, but I just really like Lightning as a phone charger. I've had way too much experience with USB-C ports failing on mobile devices just from wear, and while I'm sure it happens, neither I or anybody I know has had any issues with Lightning. But it sucks ass for accessories and anything else. It's still a net gain, much as I do have a soft spot for what we've got.
i am pretty sure taht apple has their own "usb-c" like their macs where it is a tiny bit different from other usb-c cables so maybe if apple made a little bit different cables, there should be no problem with the new usb-c
@@feadt4292 Eh, it's more with the physical design. Because the internal port for USB-C is an enclosure over being a flat ring like Lightning where the pins sit flat, I've just noticed it's got less durability. Thunderbolt would be no different. Love your vids mate. Got a great unique look and style to them. I agree with what you're saying. Apple losing profit on different cables makes sense. In fact, my M1 2020 model MacBook Air doesn't work with any other USB-C cables aside from the one Apple gave me. It's frustrating. As a video creator myself, I know if I don't have it with me there'll be no video. So if they introduce this to the new iPhone models, I know somewhere down the line I'm going to have to bare that in mind. Guess we'll have to see how it all pans out though. Keep up the good work. Love from England 🇬🇧
It’s possible that the iPhone will go all wireless instead of switching to USB-C. The new EU law requires that all devices with a cable port need to be USB-C, but if there is no port then they are still compliant. Wireless charging would lead to more e-waste so that would make the law backfire.
I was working on my Mac and thought it was randomly sending stuff to the Trash...i'll take it as a lesson to never watch your videos on the background again. From now on full attention 🤣
I've had 3 iPhone's lightning port fail to connect. I welcome USB-C. I've had my iPhone 13 mini for less than a year and the lightning port stopped connecting.
The connector of lightning is superior to usb-c though. usb-c ports have a prong in the middle. That prong is super flimsy and can easily be bent, damaged rendering the port useless. Lightning doesn't have that issue.
@@ReconScammers I've had issues in each phone with USB-C. I like the idea of 1 cable for all devices, but the usb-c port feel to weak to me. Charge speeds and especially data speeds might be significantly faster with usb-c but I don't care about that, I haven't plugged my phone in to transfer data in years... For me this is an unfortunate change but maybe apple has better/stronger usb-c port?
hey, just a heads-up: this is a non-issue, the EU does not like, nor does it allow, Apple to limit USB-C, as it is against anti-monopoly regulations :)
its much better than staying on lighting. atleast now you can use an iPhone charger on an android. Mfi is something we need to deal with, but the prerequisite to deal with Mfi Monopoly is Apple using usb C on all devices.
I agree with you. Apple has been around longer than the EU. The EU mandate gives them an excuse to dump the aging lightning connector technology, blaming someone else. And, as you suggest, Apple might 'improve' the quality of their connectors, or do some thing as far as charge vs. data flow, that restricts other vendors. A side example is that I use the iPad mini 6 20W charging block to charge other [non-Apple] USB-C devices. The other devices work, but they 'slow down' the charger to accommodate a trickle charge. Apple might do similar things with competing USB-C devices.
