    After watching this video I was motivated to change these myself on my 2015 4Runner SR5. As long as I had the air intake system apart I also cleaned the sensor and the Throttle Body and replace the air intake filter. It took me a bit longer as I had to get a couple of specific tools and a magnetic spark plug socket with a long extension which had a total cost of around $50 and the cost of new spark plugs and PCV valve. There are more DIY projects in the future thanks to your channel. Thanks for sharing these tips with us.

Also only had to remove bracket holding heater core coolant lines, used zip tie to hold them out of the way. 4 and 6 took a few extensions and bit more time but very easy job. Thanks man, followed your video along with a few others, and it was not bad at all. Changed the spark plugs and PCV valve. I did knock the air tube gasket into the engine when removing the secondary air injection pump. Fortunately, I found it but I recommend to anyone else to remove that gasket before removing that pump. I spent about 30 minutes looking for it, but everything else was a breeze!

    Thanks for posting this, this was very helpful. I learned that I probably don't need to do mine just yet. Yeah I believe the secondary air injection on the 4Runner 1GR-FE didn’t start until 2013. However, unless the gaskets are damaged, they’re not needed to be replaced when removing the valves for plugs or any other reason. Thankfully Toyota typically builds things correctly and knowing these have to be removed to replace plugs they made them out of metal and not some other material that would degrade from the heat and break upon first removal.

    • @VikingsGarage

      It’s not a gas cap, you need to test that banks emission pump aka Air injection pump.

    Thanks for the video. I just followed it to change the spark plugs on my 2011 4Runner. On the driver's side bank, center cylinder there was oil on the spark plug and the spark plug tube. I believe the spark plug tube gasket needs replacement, but could it be something else? Is oil leaking into the spark plug tube an urgent repair or can it wait?

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  4 месяца назад

      It’s most definitely the deal that should be changed with the valve cover gasket.
      “Is it urgent?” Some what , Can you wait a bit more?
      That all depends on the amount of oil leaking.

    I noticed you don’t use anti-seize on the spark plugs, or the PVC, does Toyota not recommend that? Also, I was wondering what your thoughts are on catch cans. You’ve probably seen the inside of engines more than other people do they prevent sludge from building up.

    • @VikingsGarage

      NO anti-seize Sir!

    VG, I did a belt change, all was good after that, no issues. Then went ahead and did a spark plug and PCV valve change. Did one at a time so I would not get anything mixed up. It is showing a CEL and TRAC light after this. Tried disco the battery for 20 mins but doesn't seem to be clearing it. Any suggestions? It is running good.

    Why would you replace the pcv valve?

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  Год назад

      Because you can and should. Why risk having high crankcase pressure from a faulty PCV. It’s pretty inexpensive.

    I have an 08 GX470 with 175,000 on the V8. I've been religiously changing the oil every 3-5k miles with the oil from Lexus. In your opinion, should i switch to full synthetic of the same grade or stick with the OEM stuff?
